Not putting anything on kickstarter prevents accountability. They control that webpage, not kickstarter. Kickstarter ensures that info is not tampered with after the completion of the project.
That update means nothing to me until commitments are make officially on kickstarter.
Also, how are the expecting to reach out to backers when they just make some random page...

@Poz, my apologies for not making clear. Elan did not create the site. It is completely handled by backers from the comments section. As an aside, Elan is a guy (look at his bio pic above).
