The backer counter or total DOES roll backwards. However your backer numbers do not. If #112103 backs out, the total backers drops one, but #112103 is never reassigned. Thus at 100k, it was about 500 off.

I can easily see some big Oatmeal fan pledge > $100 because they want this campaign to be successful, and then realize that they need the money more.

THAT is a stupid reason. So are the people who drop out because they think this campaign should keep adding more and more stuff to the game itself. I admire what The Oatmeal, Elan Lee, and the third guy (forgive me for not knowing his name!) did in NOT going that route to make sure that this game comes out on time. I also like the fact that they are asking backers to do fun things to PROMOTE the game rather than dig into their pockets and give them more money which they don't need. (It would be NICE, yes---but NECESSARY? No.)

Okay, so for the debate below about the counter vs. backer numbers, I was counter #149,757, but I'm backer #151285. So the counter does seem to be reflecting people who back out.
They must have fixed that then or something... or maybe they meant that your backer number didn't reflect which backer you actually were... confusing...

I just ordered an art book from a book store in Britain and the shipping for the book (not a big book btw) was £11.00, which converts to $16.80 usd... I think a 2 card deck of cards may even weigh just as much if not more than the book I ordered so $15 sounds fair... The main issue being the huge body of water that separates the continents...

The counter reflects the active backers.
When a backer cancels his pledge or changes it then it also changes its backer number which is basically incremented, explaining why the 100kth backer was #100k+

If anyone wants to complain about overseas shipping (EU friendly, etc.). I am awaiting two railroad history books from a book dealer friend in the UK (I'm in the States). The package was just under two kilos, and I will be paying about $60 in shipping -- on two books which totaled $100. Stop whining about the costs, and bask in the fact that we can ship such marvelous stuff everywhere -- and receive it intact!

Yeah, that first day seems even more insane in retrospect. I was #34kish and was on the first day (barely). All of the good tiers were gone. We've only added 3.4x that in the 3 weeks since.
All the tiers were open and empty when I backed initially, and I'm backer #2631.... we exploded quite quickly....
