Well there are fair amount of berries that are purple (or leaning towards black) that can be eaten. Pokeberries for instance, not good for you. Beautyberries would be fine.

Wild almonds are quite dangerous as well, the whole loaded with arsenic thing and all. But they taste bitter as well so there really isn't an issue there.

@Evan: I'm going to second LZ's comment. Arsenic is generally toxic because it tends to take the spot of phosphorus in biological processes while gumming up the works.

Apples and pitted fruits will absorb arsenic from the soil and actually use it. When they integrate it as part of an organic molecule, it's referred to as organic arsenic, and is actually not harmful
Oh I missed the living things part. It's like formaldehyde, it's a natural electrolyte. Pears are loaded with it, it's not deadly by any means. It's actually found in most meats unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah, it takes more than people realize to be a problem. Most toxins require a fair bit to kill you. Notable exceptions are botulinum toxin, ricin, and cyanide
