RE: Extrapolation based on current fundraising rate.
The math works out as 25000*(60/12)*72 = $9,000,000 additional dollars over three days at this rate. I... don't actually think that's an accurate assessment, given that people have to sleep, but it's nonetheless impressive.
Chris "The Historian" Loth 2015-02-16T17:36:54-05:00
@La, thinking globally, there always someone that's going to be up. That being said, I would be surprised if we hit that mark.

BruceP - The Chameleon 2015-02-16T17:38:08-05:00

I wouldn't be surprised to see a $2mil bump over the last 2 days, but we'll see. :)
Wesley "Ia!" H. 2015-02-16T17:38:13-05:00
@BruceP: I've already got it open in a separate tab. However, Kicktraq doesn't do a fantastic job of predicting the last 2-3 days of popular campaigns, as the fundraising tends to spike again at that time.
Kevin 2015-02-16T17:38:38-05:00
Where are these numbers coming from.... If it were confined to just the US population, it would be more than one pledge for one out of every 2,000 people.
Also, this little surprise device is only going to folks who backed our game through this initial Kickstarter. It's our way of saying "Hey, we love you," but in a mysterious sorta way. We are full of mysterious secrets that's why we keep candy bars in our underwear.

I sure hope it's not an underwear candy bar.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-02-16T17:43:21-05:00
Kicktraq has stayed pretty stable for the last couple of days in its prediction. I'm finding it hard to take it seriously at this point &Chameleon
Wesley "Ia!" H. 2015-02-16T17:43:34-05:00
@Kevin: I watched the numbers go up for 12 minutes and took (roughly) the remaining time in this campaign to see how it would go if that amount of funding could be constantly sustained until the end.
In reality, yeah, market saturation and other things would bring the estimate down to something approaching reality. BruceP's $2M bump sounds likely to me, and it's possible (though improbable) that it'd be a $4M bump. I'm not going to hold my breath over it, though. I just did the calculation to see how impressed I should be about the current rate.
Eric 'Tchotchke' Aschner 2015-02-16T17:43:51-05:00
...but why click remind me? You knew the project was going to fund. You knew there were unlikely to be large super end of campaign stretch goals where crowd holding out would be advantageous. You knew it's only $35, so it's not like a major commitment.
I have no doubt some people held out, and likely many newcomers to KS may not know you aren't charged until the end. I just don't see it equaling the first two days.
Demonkid 2015-02-16T17:45:51-05:00
Gonna need some serious amounts of China to manufacture this amount of decks. Or a really good HP Lazerjet, REALLY good.
BruceP - The Chameleon 2015-02-16T17:46:10-05:00
@Tchotchke,
Happens all the time, especially on big projects. For some reason, a lot of people like to wait until the end to either pledge at all, or increase their pledge. Not sure why, but it almost always happen. We usually see about the same amount raised as the first couple of days. sometimes a lot more, depending on the project.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-02-16T17:46:18-05:00
I agree with you, Tchotchke, clicking remind me on this one seems silly. That being said, I'm sure a bunch of people did

Wesley "Ia!" H. 2015-02-16T17:47:13-05:00
@Kristof: That they're calling it a 'device' makes an idea that I'd shared earlier more likely. I'm thinking that it'd be a little speaker, as one would be able to find in a singing birthday card, that meows when the box is opened. (Or it could be an explosion sound. That's also possible.)

Many people leave it until the last minute for a number of reasons:
1. Be sure project will succeed (surest way to make sure it will fail)
2. Make sure they can afford it
3. Indecision - do they really want/need it - wait until the last minute - read updates, comments in last days & decide
4. Like me they have a bunch they want to back & it's hard to pick which ones so they'll star/set reminders & see how strongly they feel as each comes up & they'll glance over others again
5. Commitment phobic - don't like making commitments so they do everything at the last minute
I'm sure there are more reasons - those are the ones I'm most familiar with. I think I have 30 in "remind/star" status right now.
