Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:00:06-04:00
Finally finished that episode, but instantly saw Alfred Hitchcock was a guest in another one. Well, there's no escaping it. I'm a huge hitchcock fan, even if I haven't had the chance to see many of his films. The ones I have, though, and the books, are so amazing.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:01:30-04:00
20 G's, 20 P's...
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-11T01:04:07-04:00
Zem, have you seen The Rope?
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:05:12-04:00
You just come on here and spout something cryptic like that? That sounds like reply-baiting to me. As a prominent internet anti-troll like Cane, I'll have to ask you to...
Nevermind, I can't help it. What does that mean?
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-11T01:06:14-04:00
It's a Hitchcock film. It's a fantastic dark comedy
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:06:52-04:00
LZ, nope, but having just read a quick synopsis, I will soon. That sounds kinda creepy and messed up, but reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show where they "serve Meatloaf" ;)
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-11T01:06:52-04:00
And really, any question is reply baiting if you think about it
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:10:12-04:00
"Rope" has some kind of record for being shot in one long take or something ... it's famous for that, too.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:10:32-04:00
The cookie countdown of what i've decorated. :) 20 G's, 20 P's... got 20 K's and M's left.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:10:45-04:00
True, but what creeper put isn't a question is it?
20 G's, 20 P's...
not even grammatically accurate. Should be Gs and Ps unless they're possessive, in which case it's still incorrect. Then it'd be 20 of P's and 20 of G's.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:11:05-04:00
Saboteur, North by Northwest, Topaz, Rear Window, Vertigo, so many good ones even before his classic later stuff.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:11:27-04:00
Cane, look up Russian Ark. Longest ever shot in one take and is a work of art in itself. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:12:17-04:00
@Zem, don't start with that Chicago Style crap about commas. It has ruined several areas of reporting in technical journals already.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:13:02-04:00
He intended for the rope to be single take, but according to the wikipedia page,
When filming Rope (1948), Alfred Hitchcock intended for the film to have the effect of one long continuous take, but the cameras available could hold no more than 1000 feet of 35 mm film. As a result, each take used up to a whole roll of film and lasts up to 10 minutes
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:13:43-04:00
excellent point about the commas. that is cross-eyed cake decorating talking.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:13:58-04:00
What about commas? The oxford comma? Journals never use it, which annoys me because not using it defeats the purpose. It's when you have this, this, and that instead of this, this and that.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:14:06-04:00
As an example, the Pennsylvania Railroad had a class of steam locomotive called the K4. Plural used to be K4's -- until they changed the Chicago Style guide ... and it became K4s -- except K4s is already a sub-class of K4 -- thus are you referencing a K4, a plural K4, or a K4s singular? To make matters worse, there is a sub-class of K4s called the K4ss.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:15:00-04:00
If it's that specific, there are still ways around it, but with trains it's easy to tell if it's not possessive. Also, those are apostrophes, not commas.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:15:20-04:00
GCoD -yeah... that's a whole train-load of confusion there.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:15:44-04:00
But back to the Russian Ark, seriously, it's waay worth watching.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:15:51-04:00
hahaha... zem wins again. apostrophe.... bleeruuuggh.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:15:54-04:00
And almost every steam railroad had a class of locomotives that had similar distinctions. So deleting the apostrophe makes it muddy and unclear what you are saying in technical terms and jargon, and we ignore it.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:16:33-04:00
5 more to 1000 comments! I intended to stop there tonight, but this conversation is just getting back up!
4 more now, technically.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:18:00-04:00
It effects the plurals in usage in texts mainly, though possessives can be used to -- as in "The K4's firebox was a Belpaire design, often a hallmark of the Pennsylvania Railroad's shops."
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:18:01-04:00
Also, technically, that should be K4-s and you could also say more than one/several/multiple/7 model K4 or K4-s
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:18:39-04:00
Affects. Sorry, that bugged me in a grammar argument.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:19:49-04:00
No, technically the railroad designated them K4s -- and never used the dash. They set the name, not me ... and I nor any editor can change it.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:20:34-04:00
I think that works best though; 5 model K4 trains if you have a specific number. Several K4 trains.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:21:47-04:00
Yeah, but grammar was also slightly different in time of those trains. ;)
In reality it doesn't matter if it gets the point across. My point was creeper's comment was plain misleading and reply-baiting, possibly only out of distraction with baking something.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:22:43-04:00
it was me, mumbling to myself. trying to motivate. I do that. i have to list off what i've completed as opposed to what i have left to do.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:23:00-04:00
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

123 am.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:23:47-04:00
BAAHAHAHAHA. was my name in your 1000th comment?
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:24:15-04:00
The change to eliminating the apostrophe is recent, and the result of some brain dead idiot who wanted to make his mark on the editing world. It's plain wrong headed, and for the reasons I list. It was held that way for centuries, and just because Chicago Style says it has changed, doesn't mean it has. Unless they intend to go back and re-edit the last two hundred years of tech journals.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:24:34-04:00
Also - completely off-subject- a cover song that makes me cry. Not to be debbie downer- it's just lovely: https://www.youtube.com/watch…
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:24:40-04:00
Ok woke up and have recapped the comments of you guys.
What I think is that there probably won't be many playtesters on each area (state/country), so when you go to look for place to organize keep in mind it might pull a crowd.
And this is good when you are looking for a place to stay, let's say you host this at restaurant, you of course don't ask for money to do playtesting, but the restsurant that's hosting will have lot of people popping in and out and some of them are bound to be hungry. Now where do they eat? At the location where playtedt is happening. If you big a huge crowd, even people on the line for games might order stuff while waiting.
I believe there is a potensial for a restaurant/game shop owner that let's you organize it in their restaurant as long as, people who wait don't sit down and not order stuff, best is that it won't cost owner more than a couple of tables whee you will be hosting games, best case you can negociate that if restsurant get's more than avarage customers your meal is on them.
+ think about the marketing restaurant on this gets, lets say 100 people's arrive to play during day and 70 of themmight have never been in that restaurant before, now they will have positive image of the restaurant and they will more easily comevisit again. If the food is good some might start visiting that place regularily. And then if you have more than 1 event they get even more marketing.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:25:06-04:00
Oh well. Either way I beat epicderpguy to the mark. He's 15 away! He stopped and I saw the opportunity to beat him to it. I'm competing with him because we've always been so close together in comment numbers. Creeper: you're next!!!
MUHUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAJAJAJAJAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAUAUUAAUIAIAIAIAIAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAGHAGAGAGAGGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:27:02-04:00
Juha, not to be nosy, but you said your timezone earlier and I just wanted to know if you're part of the european crowd or if we have a new country on our map! What country are you from?
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:27:37-04:00
Finland?
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:27:40-04:00
Juha- all very true. Depends on the restaurant, though. Do they want campers? People sitting and not ordering as much as turning tables/paying more in reserving a room. People that may be loud/disruptive/annoy the regulars? Depends on time of day, as well. A tuesday afternoon would be open - but would many people be able to come? A friday night would draw a better crowd of players, especially if people want to travel in a bit - but a bar/restaurant would not want that sort of crowd if they can turn tables and customers quickly. A lot of factors. Hell... I'm considering just saying "be at this Diner..." because it seems anything goes at diners. :)
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:29:05-04:00
From Finland, magical place that had nokia, and lately just producing apps: Clash of Clans & Angry Birds
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:29:27-04:00
Salvador Dali on What's My Line??! This show keeps surprising me after every episode! I'm only halfway through the one with Hitchcock and he hasn't even appeared yet because he's the special guest at the end. That one will take me to bedtime, I believe.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:30:14-04:00
Finland is new! Yay!
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:30:18-04:00
For someone that's been in the restaurant industry for 17 years... (sweet lord almighty...) The places I work would roll their eyes and be annoyed with a crowd playing a game. BUT- it could be just where I work. I think it really depends on the right place, who you know, and how much the players are willing to drop at the bar/on food. I think small gaming shops are an awesome idea... just not where I live! I've been to some of those places - i could barely squeeze through an aisle! So tiny!
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:30:58-04:00
FINLAND! Huzzah! Oh! you should email The Ex-Pres- who should be getting up soon (South Africa) and have him add you to our map!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:31:57-04:00
Shouldn't there be large gaming shops in NYC? They may be a little ways away, but I'm sure they'd LOVE to be able to playtest a brand new, very popular, potentially moneybag game.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-11T01:32:59-04:00
Many shops in NYC are small --rents are high, and ownership is often not an option ...
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:33:24-04:00
Creeper, that's the beuty, if you are chosen. You can do all events on tuesdays at your restaurant & pull a crowd of people who have time. Then on friday you can do itsomewhere else that has more space for more players without stuffing your restaurant full.
Though the rules that EK team set up might chance this.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:33:26-04:00
Nat King Cole? I need to distance myself from the sidebar. I haven't gone 10 minutes into this episode and I've found 2 other amazing ones.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:35:41-04:00
GCoD is correct - Rent is high. They crowd as much as they can in as little space as possible. Even the most popular gaming shops are quite narrowly spaced. I've admitted before, I am not a huge gamer - but I have been in some, and I grip my purse and hold my breath because I am terrified of knocking something over.
My restaurant already said "unless you book the private party room and pay $40/person, nope"
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:35:45-04:00
Yeah, I'd understand that, Cane. But in more downtown areas, possibly quite a bit further away, but maybe even worth the trip, there're some really nice ones. If you got enough decks or enough other playtest hosts to join you for the decks, you could even do a walk-in version and just have the people normally coming into the store participate, just have a small area in the back or side or something.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:36:10-04:00
But that's just because of where I work. going to try a few friends that work at sports bars, etc.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:37:10-04:00
I don't live in NY, but even I know the rent in that town is too damn high! It affects even tourists, not that they care much.
Try the husker bar? ;)
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:37:47-04:00
and the bar where i used to hang out in my old neighborhood. It was never crowded and had huge tables. They also had board games for people to play. And a secret pinball machine that had a million free credits because people were too drunk to realize this, and kept putting money in. :)
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:38:35-04:00
Zem - I'll try the husker bar. :) and yes- it affects tourists the most, unfortunately. :(
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:39:02-04:00
Always ask your server for advice on what to do! We'll tell you the cheap/free/easy/super cool stuff!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:40:36-04:00
That one sounds like fun. Also, I like how you just have to get a person drunk and they'll pay for your pinball games.
And tourists are there to spend money and get cramped. They don't have to live there and get trapped by high rent they can't pay off. I couldn't live there.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:42:15-04:00
I'm just thinking the husker bar is only an option because nothing is going on and it'd be empty for the most part. Only baseball now, I think. Plenty of open space, but if you're not a husker, not much else to do there. Still, it'd be funny. ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:45:38-04:00
Hah. If I've ever thought a person's job on this show was hard to guess, even the guy who sharpened pencils on a factory line, they haven't met this guy who fits mens' corsets! I didn't even realize that was a thing until he got there. They'll have fun trying to guess this.
I love how I just blab about this show that I don't think many of you care about, but it's so funny and they have guests you only see in books and in name these days. This is just rediculous though.
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:46:20-04:00
Other risky option could be a pub at night time. Sleeve (and perhaps tin) your cards and let those beer drinkers play while drinking.
Extra care on nobody walking out for a smokewith their hand.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:46:20-04:00
The husker bar probably turns into whatever sports team they support during whatever season it is. But still. I'll try my midwestern charm.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-11T01:48:06-04:00
My ears prickled. Someone mentioned sleeves and tins...
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:48:28-04:00
Juha- that was my plan all along. I kinda like weathered cards. It shows love and life. Just like my favorite cookbooks - with the pages all crinkled from getting egg and vanilla on them. Shows the love. Like my grandmother's cook book - notes in the margins and stains all over the pages. I bought two decks anyway- one to keep safe, one to play with. The play test deck can reek of beer and buffalo wings. :)
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:48:45-04:00
Now husker bar is a different name for sports bar or just a chain of sports bars?
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:51:43-04:00
I go to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and our mascot is the Huskers. Husker bars are just our sports team's bars around the world. Some interesting ones in places you'd never expect, but obviously a couple in NYC near-ish to creeper.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:51:50-04:00
LZ-LOL.... yup!
Juha- Huskers is the name for a college football team in the states- Nebraska Corn Huskers. It's where Zem currently resides. I am from Kansas City- a couple hour drive away from there, and I know many people that went to College where Zem currently is. :) I, however, currently reside in NYC. But - This city has bars dedicated to their favorite sports teams all over the country, College and Pro
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:53:09-04:00
hmm...maybe I should try a Royals bar first... since we're gearing up for baseball....
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:53:56-04:00
This is going to drive me crazy... i was watching "some" show the other day and remembered hearing "some" cover of a song and i thought, "wow, that's beautiful...i need to remember this." ...*sigh*
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:54:00-04:00
Haha, not pro teams from Nebraska. UNL is as close as we get, which is why we have one of the best sports, mostly football obviously, programs in America. One of them, so don't start all that up.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:55:16-04:00
Happens all the time, creeper. I had that happen with so many of my favorite songs and it took me years to look them up.
Also, I should watch some royals games. Oh, and soccer! I can't miss the next El Classico. I've missed too many of them!
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T01:56:15-04:00
In Finland, I think there is generally 1 sports bar/city and the only sport (outside winter olympics) seems to be Ice hockey.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:57:26-04:00
Juha- that sounds like it would be so cliche, and what most americans would assume of Finland!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:57:47-04:00
Oh wow, el classico is the 22nd. I forgot about it and it nearly snuck by. I had a spanish teacher from spain, and he got me into those. We also had a danish exchange student who got us into every sport, especially football. Both footballs.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:58:14-04:00
@Zem - Re: music- I remember searching for years for a song once. Before Google and soundhound and all that crazy technology we have now. It was just some song I heard on the radio. I was obsessed with it! When i finally found it - i burst into tears in the music store.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T01:58:18-04:00
Yeah, from what I've found, Finland is the closest Europe has to Canada.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T01:58:58-04:00
I work in a restaurant with 5 million latinos... i am all too familiar with the real football. Even if i didn't want to be. -__-
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:01:09-04:00
Creeper, once, one of my favorite songs, Synchronicity II by the Police, took me years because I couldn't hear the lyrics right usually and forgot to search before I forgot them. One time, finally, they said the name on the radio, and after about a week of coming up with different names because I only knew it sounded something like that approximately, they said it again and it took me one more hour to find it. I was overjoyed to finally be able to stop looking!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:01:34-04:00
Hell, 5 million? I thought NYC buildings were small!
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T02:01:43-04:00
Actually when I was international tutor for our school one summer, Canadians thought it was pretty much as Canada is and Americans couldn't sleep with sun shining 24/7 (only during summertime)
C.F. "The Ex-President" Heyns 2015-03-11T02:02:16-04:00
Morning all!
Can I get a quick recap of the last 24 hours? Anything big I missed?
Life happened, as did some serious sleeping.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:03:49-04:00
Haha! I have some family friends in about the middle north-wise of Finland I'd love to visit. I want to see it like that, but I don't think I'd get used to the light soon. Then again, you'd die if you lived with me here. Our weather is notorious even though nobody knows it's Nebraska they hear stories about.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:04:02-04:00
hey Tep! We discussed apostrophes, Zem got his first EKLOL, We need to add Juha to our map - Finland! SUN! and...of course, #kittenconsul. Oh - and i talk too much.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:04:25-04:00
Hi tep! Alot happened. My 1,000th comment and update #9x2.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:04:43-04:00
it's the midwest- if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:07:34-04:00
But Nebraska weather, Juha, is fun. In celcius, we go from less than -25 to over 40 in the summer, with it changing like an insane person inbetween. We also have the most tornadoes per square mile. Texas has the most overall, but it's several times larger, so we actually have the most per year. And the biggest weather change in a day happened just outside the border in Iowa or Kansas, but it was here too, just 2 degrees less.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:08:27-04:00
It's literally been snowy, rainy, and sunny on different parts of my house at the same time. Just ran from one side to the other looking through windows not believing it.
C.F. "The Ex-President" Heyns 2015-03-11T02:10:33-04:00
Well done Zem!
I know Dr Potatten forward me a new KC Member's info to be added to the map.
Anything else needs adding?
And what's the story with Juha besides the weather?
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:11:26-04:00
Finally! This conversation is so distracting it's taken about 40 minutes just to get to the part of the episode with Alfred Hitchcock! I may be out longer than normal now, but still checking in and commenting enough Derp won't be able to catch back up.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:11:55-04:00
He's the new member from Finland.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:12:22-04:00
Or at least A new member. And the first from Finland.
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-11T02:12:46-04:00
Sounds, nice. Finland tries to do similar things, last year we had snow on may but no snow on most of the winter (it was a odd winter) temperature from -30 to +2 depending on a day. And summer can range from +4 to +30, some days sun shines and more often it rains.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:14:07-04:00
C.F. "The Ex-President" Heyns 2015-03-11T02:15:03-04:00
mmm... can someone send me the details for the new map entry to theexpresident@kittencorps.com please.
I need to keep track of these things and after life happened yesterday I have to catch up on all of it tonight.
Hi Juha! Welcome to the Kitten Corps!
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:17:02-04:00
Life? what is that?

Do you guys have the basic thing, that you don't do stuff if it snows?
C.F. "The Ex-President" Heyns 2015-03-11T02:18:03-04:00
Creeper, Life is that thing that happens once you leave your place of residence via your front door.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2015-03-11T02:19:22-04:00
Midwesterners love snow and have no problem with it. Cities on the other hand. Creeper, were you surprised when they shut down the city on a little snow before? This year doesn't count, obviously. My dad was in philadelphia once and they shut it down for 3 in. of snow. He's used to driving dozens of miles in blizzard conditions so he couldn't understand whatsoever.
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:20:44-04:00
YEP. I can often be heard ranting, "Y'all are a bunch of pussies here when it snows!"
Melissa "The Creeper" Nicole 2015-03-11T02:21:35-04:00
Granted, this city becomes a complete effing mess when the snow starts to pile up. So many cars, so much slush and ice. it's a wreck. like your mom.
Finally finished that episode, but instantly saw Alfred Hitchcock was a guest in another one. Well, there's no escaping it. I'm a huge hitchcock fan, even if I haven't had the chance to see many of his films. The ones I have, though, and the books, are so amazing.
20 G's, 20 P's...
Zem, have you seen The Rope?
You just come on here and spout something cryptic like that? That sounds like reply-baiting to me. As a prominent internet anti-troll like Cane, I'll have to ask you to...
Nevermind, I can't help it. What does that mean?
It's a Hitchcock film. It's a fantastic dark comedy
LZ, nope, but having just read a quick synopsis, I will soon. That sounds kinda creepy and messed up, but reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show where they "serve Meatloaf" ;)
And really, any question is reply baiting if you think about it
"Rope" has some kind of record for being shot in one long take or something ... it's famous for that, too.
The cookie countdown of what i've decorated. :) 20 G's, 20 P's... got 20 K's and M's left.
True, but what creeper put isn't a question is it?
20 G's, 20 P's...
not even grammatically accurate. Should be Gs and Ps unless they're possessive, in which case it's still incorrect. Then it'd be 20 of P's and 20 of G's.
Saboteur, North by Northwest, Topaz, Rear Window, Vertigo, so many good ones even before his classic later stuff.
Cane, look up Russian Ark. Longest ever shot in one take and is a work of art in itself. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.
@Zem, don't start with that Chicago Style crap about commas. It has ruined several areas of reporting in technical journals already.
He intended for the rope to be single take, but according to the wikipedia page,
When filming Rope (1948), Alfred Hitchcock intended for the film to have the effect of one long continuous take, but the cameras available could hold no more than 1000 feet of 35 mm film. As a result, each take used up to a whole roll of film and lasts up to 10 minutes
excellent point about the commas. that is cross-eyed cake decorating talking.
What about commas? The oxford comma? Journals never use it, which annoys me because not using it defeats the purpose. It's when you have this, this, and that instead of this, this and that.
If it's that specific, there are still ways around it, but with trains it's easy to tell if it's not possessive. Also, those are apostrophes, not commas.
GCoD -yeah... that's a whole train-load of confusion there.
But back to the Russian Ark, seriously, it's waay worth watching.
hahaha... zem wins again. apostrophe.... bleeruuuggh.
And almost every steam railroad had a class of locomotives that had similar distinctions. So deleting the apostrophe makes it muddy and unclear what you are saying in technical terms and jargon, and we ignore it.
5 more to 1000 comments! I intended to stop there tonight, but this conversation is just getting back up!
4 more now, technically.
It effects the plurals in usage in texts mainly, though possessives can be used to -- as in "The K4's firebox was a Belpaire design, often a hallmark of the Pennsylvania Railroad's shops."
Also, technically, that should be K4-s and you could also say more than one/several/multiple/7 model K4 or K4-s
Affects. Sorry, that bugged me in a grammar argument.
No, technically the railroad designated them K4s -- and never used the dash. They set the name, not me ... and I nor any editor can change it.
I think that works best though; 5 model K4 trains if you have a specific number. Several K4 trains.
Yeah, but grammar was also slightly different in time of those trains. ;)
In reality it doesn't matter if it gets the point across. My point was creeper's comment was plain misleading and reply-baiting, possibly only out of distraction with baking something.
it was me, mumbling to myself. trying to motivate. I do that. i have to list off what i've completed as opposed to what i have left to do.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was distracted and missed my 1,000th comment!!!!! I wanted to just post "1,000!"
123 am.
BAAHAHAHAHA. was my name in your 1000th comment?
The change to eliminating the apostrophe is recent, and the result of some brain dead idiot who wanted to make his mark on the editing world. It's plain wrong headed, and for the reasons I list. It was held that way for centuries, and just because Chicago Style says it has changed, doesn't mean it has. Unless they intend to go back and re-edit the last two hundred years of tech journals.
Also - completely off-subject- a cover song that makes me cry. Not to be debbie downer- it's just lovely: https://www.youtube.com/watch…
Oh well. Either way I beat epicderpguy to the mark. He's 15 away! He stopped and I saw the opportunity to beat him to it. I'm competing with him because we've always been so close together in comment numbers. Creeper: you're next!!!
MUHUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAJAJAJAJAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAUAUUAAUIAIAIAIAIAAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAGHAGAGAGAGGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Juha, not to be nosy, but you said your timezone earlier and I just wanted to know if you're part of the european crowd or if we have a new country on our map! What country are you from?
Finland?
From Finland, magical place that had nokia, and lately just producing apps: Clash of Clans & Angry Birds
Salvador Dali on What's My Line??! This show keeps surprising me after every episode! I'm only halfway through the one with Hitchcock and he hasn't even appeared yet because he's the special guest at the end. That one will take me to bedtime, I believe.
Finland is new! Yay!
So tiny!
FINLAND! Huzzah! Oh! you should email The Ex-Pres- who should be getting up soon (South Africa) and have him add you to our map!
Shouldn't there be large gaming shops in NYC? They may be a little ways away, but I'm sure they'd LOVE to be able to playtest a brand new, very popular, potentially moneybag game.
Many shops in NYC are small --rents are high, and ownership is often not an option ...
Nat King Cole? I need to distance myself from the sidebar. I haven't gone 10 minutes into this episode and I've found 2 other amazing ones.
But that's just because of where I work. going to try a few friends that work at sports bars, etc.
I don't live in NY, but even I know the rent in that town is too damn high! It affects even tourists, not that they care much.
Try the husker bar? ;)
and the bar where i used to hang out in my old neighborhood. It was never crowded and had huge tables. They also had board games for people to play. And a secret pinball machine that had a million free credits because people were too drunk to realize this, and kept putting money in. :)
Zem - I'll try the husker bar. :) and yes- it affects tourists the most, unfortunately. :(
Always ask your server for advice on what to do! We'll tell you the cheap/free/easy/super cool stuff!
That one sounds like fun. Also, I like how you just have to get a person drunk and they'll pay for your pinball games.
And tourists are there to spend money and get cramped. They don't have to live there and get trapped by high rent they can't pay off. I couldn't live there.
I'm just thinking the husker bar is only an option because nothing is going on and it'd be empty for the most part. Only baseball now, I think. Plenty of open space, but if you're not a husker, not much else to do there. Still, it'd be funny. ;)
Other risky option could be a pub at night time. Sleeve (and perhaps tin) your cards and let those beer drinkers play while drinking.
Extra care on nobody walking out for a smokewith their hand.
The husker bar probably turns into whatever sports team they support during whatever season it is. But still. I'll try my midwestern charm.
My ears prickled. Someone mentioned sleeves and tins...
Now husker bar is a different name for sports bar or just a chain of sports bars?
I go to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and our mascot is the Huskers. Husker bars are just our sports team's bars around the world. Some interesting ones in places you'd never expect, but obviously a couple in NYC near-ish to creeper.
LZ-LOL.... yup!
Juha- Huskers is the name for a college football team in the states- Nebraska Corn Huskers. It's where Zem currently resides. I am from Kansas City- a couple hour drive away from there, and I know many people that went to College where Zem currently is. :) I, however, currently reside in NYC. But - This city has bars dedicated to their favorite sports teams all over the country, College and Pro
hmm...maybe I should try a Royals bar first... since we're gearing up for baseball....
This is going to drive me crazy... i was watching "some" show the other day and remembered hearing "some" cover of a song and i thought, "wow, that's beautiful...i need to remember this." ...*sigh*
Haha, not pro teams from Nebraska. UNL is as close as we get, which is why we have one of the best sports, mostly football obviously, programs in America. One of them, so don't start all that up.
Happens all the time, creeper. I had that happen with so many of my favorite songs and it took me years to look them up.
Also, I should watch some royals games. Oh, and soccer! I can't miss the next El Classico. I've missed too many of them!
In Finland, I think there is generally 1 sports bar/city and the only sport (outside winter olympics) seems to be Ice hockey.
Juha- that sounds like it would be so cliche, and what most americans would assume of Finland!
Oh wow, el classico is the 22nd. I forgot about it and it nearly snuck by. I had a spanish teacher from spain, and he got me into those. We also had a danish exchange student who got us into every sport, especially football. Both footballs.
@Zem - Re: music- I remember searching for years for a song once. Before Google and soundhound and all that crazy technology we have now. It was just some song I heard on the radio. I was obsessed with it! When i finally found it - i burst into tears in the music store.
Yeah, from what I've found, Finland is the closest Europe has to Canada.
I work in a restaurant with 5 million latinos... i am all too familiar with the real football. Even if i didn't want to be. -__-
Creeper, once, one of my favorite songs, Synchronicity II by the Police, took me years because I couldn't hear the lyrics right usually and forgot to search before I forgot them. One time, finally, they said the name on the radio, and after about a week of coming up with different names because I only knew it sounded something like that approximately, they said it again and it took me one more hour to find it. I was overjoyed to finally be able to stop looking!
Hell, 5 million? I thought NYC buildings were small!
Actually when I was international tutor for our school one summer, Canadians thought it was pretty much as Canada is and Americans couldn't sleep with sun shining 24/7 (only during summertime)
Morning all!
Can I get a quick recap of the last 24 hours? Anything big I missed?
Life happened, as did some serious sleeping.
Haha! I have some family friends in about the middle north-wise of Finland I'd love to visit. I want to see it like that, but I don't think I'd get used to the light soon. Then again, you'd die if you lived with me here. Our weather is notorious even though nobody knows it's Nebraska they hear stories about.
hey Tep! We discussed apostrophes, Zem got his first EKLOL, We need to add Juha to our map - Finland! SUN! and...of course, #kittenconsul. Oh - and i talk too much.
Hi tep! Alot happened. My 1,000th comment and update #9x2.
it's the midwest- if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes.
It's literally been snowy, rainy, and sunny on different parts of my house at the same time. Just ran from one side to the other looking through windows not believing it.
Well done Zem!
I know Dr Potatten forward me a new KC Member's info to be added to the map.
Anything else needs adding?
And what's the story with Juha besides the weather?
Finally! This conversation is so distracting it's taken about 40 minutes just to get to the part of the episode with Alfred Hitchcock! I may be out longer than normal now, but still checking in and commenting enough Derp won't be able to catch back up.
He's the new member from Finland.
Or at least A new member. And the first from Finland.
Sounds, nice. Finland tries to do similar things, last year we had snow on may but no snow on most of the winter (it was a odd winter) temperature from -30 to +2 depending on a day. And summer can range from +4 to +30, some days sun shines and more often it rains.

Ex-President, I'm Juha, Nice to meet you.
mmm... can someone send me the details for the new map entry to theexpresident@kittencorps.com please.
I need to keep track of these things and after life happened yesterday I have to catch up on all of it tonight.
Hi Juha! Welcome to the Kitten Corps!
Life? what is that?
