@Doc: The same life usually treats people. Through the ringer.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-04T11:41:20-04:00
Morning, all!
Hello, Doc! What's up?
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-04T11:51:01-04:00
Hey Doc! How is the family?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-04T12:22:02-04:00
Morning Doc! Things are well over here, and I hope with you as well!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-04T13:26:02-04:00
Doc! Long time no see! How's life been for you? We've all had our ups and downs, about which you can read over the last maybe 30,000 comments if you have the time. ;)
David Guidry "Doc" 2017-08-05T16:19:16-04:00
yah I'm doing good and so is the family ... going to school now working on my bachelors in kinesiology and then doctorit in physical therapy
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-05T16:34:20-04:00
That's really cool, Doc! Then you'll also be a Doc! Unless you continue to spell it "doctorit". ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-06T18:27:20-04:00
It's Monday, a holiday here, and I'm stuck in the office working...don't even get a day off in lieu because the company doesn't recognize it as a holiday. Hopefully today goes smoothly. -.-
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-08T05:50:28-04:00
Morning kittens. Sorry for the radio silence yesterday.
Just had a hunch confirmed. The new co-worker isn't pulling his full weight. Not completely his fault but the comptroller figured something was wrong when some of the work getting to our department was getting missed. I told him that I couldn't do it alone and that stuff would end up falling through the cracks. Came into the office this morning to find half of my vouchers moved from my desk to his. Noticed it was the easy stuff so I switched it out for some of the more time consuming work. That should make it more balanced.
I swear I've got to get my ass in gear and plan on leaving this profession. It seems like I'm always mad when I come in the office now.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-08T09:24:15-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-08T09:25:32-04:00
@GM, I'm sorry to hear that! When a company is operating internationally, they should recognize the local holidays as well. At least give you a day in lieu. I hope you didn't work too hard!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-08T09:30:31-04:00
@Geist, well I'm glad that they've at least recognized that your co-work (his fault or not) isn't pullng his weight. I'm glad you switched up some of the more time consuming stuff. I hate when it seems one sided or like, well you're obviously better than so and so, and I know you make the same wages but, we're going to give you the bigger/harder work load because you're better than him, but we're not going to pay you more... sigh. No wonder it makes you upset, how else are you supposed to feel? I know that this sounds weak, but use your frustration as motivation! The more frustrated you get, the more motivated it should make you to get into a better situation, even if it means taking a step backwards while you are improving your education/training. At the end of the day, we need to make money to live, but it shouldn't be a life sucking void of unhappiness either! Best of luck, I know that you deserved better, and that you can do better! Go Geist!!! ;)
@BaKhan: Since we're federally regulated, we don't get all the holidays. Only certain ones(we only get 9 a year). So even when it's a holiday for almost everyone else in the city, likely I will be working(we do get Labour Day, but I need to work it because US payroll is done that week - will get a different day off, but isn't the same).
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-08T10:26:20-04:00
@GM, well I guess a guy has to decide what he can bear. I wouldn't be happy with that situation at all. I guess a job is a job, until you can find a better one, I just find it hard to believe that there isn't a better one just waiting for someone like you! Keep your head up, and don't take crap that you don't have too.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-08T14:51:25-04:00
Geist, sorry, that sucks. And you're right; if you come in every day hating your job, you need to leave or else it's not going to be productive or helpful for you OR the company you work for.
`
BaKhan, you're right about the local holidays. My dad used to work for an international company from India, and they didn't respect foreign workers at all. They never respected anything but the major national holidays, like 3 or 4 holidays off, among other stupid ways to say they're not worth as much as Indian employees. So glad he left that company.
Yeah, Geist, there's another example of what it's like when you work in a place that causes nothing but issues for you. That company was wearing even him down. He should have left there a long time ago.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-09T01:24:34-04:00
HAHA! FINALLY!!!
So what with the travel earlier this summer, I fell behind, at my peak, just over 1 month behind on my youtube subscriptions. Seeing as I got back from the roadtrip on June 28th, even though I fell even more behind in the meantime, it took me exactly 43 full days to catch up! That is considering how new stuff was put up every day as I watched a month behind current events.
Wait... that's actually really fast! It usually takes me twice as long to catch up as I am days behind, and considering I was somewhere just over 30 days, I think that may be the fastest rate I've done it, and I've been busy in the meantime, with detasseling and events and whatnot!
`
So... bottom line is I feel a great sense of accomplishment and wave of relief from something as stupid and petty as watching a shitton of internet videos. Wow. Now that I say it like that, kinda ruins the mood!
@Zem, a win, is a win! Just enjoy that feeling as long as you can, no matter how trivial it may seem. That sense of satisfaction, means something right? Theres enough people and events that will try and take that feeling away from you, why help them with that? I say, if it makes you feel good, and it doesn't hurt anyone, enjoy it! ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-09T10:46:50-04:00
BaKhan, well in that case, I felt accomplishment from doing something fun like watching videos, so it's like that feeling you get after finishing a long and complex game finally. Even if you shouldn't have been playing for the last 5 hours, it's done.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-09T10:59:40-04:00
@Zem, those were my favourite times growing up! I remember when Ultima came out for the NES, I played that game for hours everyday! When I would finally beat a dungeon, or solve another part of the quest, it was the best! I can totally relate. Again, I don't see anything wrong with that at all, as long as it isn't getting in the way of the other stuff you have to do, enjoy yourself! ;) I get that same satisfaction from painting now. When I can say that I've finished painting all the minis for a boardgame its a huge sense of accomplishment! Even if it is "only" for a game, the enjoyment I got out of the process was very real. ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-09T11:43:26-04:00
Well, see, that's the thing. If it weren't still summer for me, spending that much time watching youtube would have been an issue. It would have taken far longer to catch up during the semester or something, because I was easily dozens of hours of videos behind. Actually, in total, likely well over 200 hours, but I did skip a very large amount of stuff that wasn't super interesting.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-09T12:15:29-04:00
@Zem, I don't see any problem spending your free time doing what you wish. School is tough and for sure will limit how much free time you have. So, enjoy the time you have, how you will, and don't worry about how trivial it may seem to others. Glad you had a good time!
@BaKhan: Wish everyone had that mentality that people should be allowed to spend their free time doing what they wish. There isn't a week that goes by that I don't hear "There is more to life than games"...well excuse me for having friends around the world that I only get to interact with through the games as we can do things in game together any day of the week.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-09T14:17:49-04:00
@GM, I think its a matter of perspective. I think the same could be said of anyone's pastimes really. There's more to life than X, yes, yes there is, but if it isn't as appealing then who cares right? I mean what are they doing thats so great anyways? Going to the bar? Going and watching the game at a buddy's house? Whatever right? If you enjoy spending your free time playing games with friends around the world, then do it. I used to take a lot of grief when I started playing music, both from my gamer friends, and from my musician friends. Why would you waste all that time learning an instrument, when know it will never get you anywhere? Why would you waste all that time playing games when you could be learning more music or playing more instruments? Its all a matter of perspective. I have a variety of things that I like to do in my spare time, and if I just want to veg out and watch some tv for a change, who's that hurting? I think in general people are too quick to criticize that which they don't understand. Or even that they don't wish to understand. I like to play music and have two nights a week that I dedicate to that, but I still get in a little practice every day. I like to play boardgames and have a dedicated night for that as well. The rest of the week I try to mix it up, get in some painting, read a book, study for work related stuff, whatever. Again, as long is it isn't interfering with anything important (work, school, budget) I don't see any harm it doing whatever it is that makes you happy! Hell, the happier you are, the more people are going to want to spend time with you anyways. Thats how I see it. ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-09T15:32:52-04:00
Well, GM, games in themselves are a great pastime, but if you do it with friends and use it particularly as a way to meet with them and have fun together, then it's an especially good way to spend your free time. If it was just you playing Xbox for hundreds of hours in a dark room, it makes sense that people would try to get you out there to do other things, but to build friendships and to do stuff with your friends, in my mind at least, it totally validates making that a big time-wasting activity.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-09T15:36:24-04:00
Then again, I validate it myself and I typically do solo games and watch internet videos, so I may be biased. Though this year I'll finally be playing a tabletop-RPG with friends online (because we could never get good times to meet in person, so now we don't have to all be there at once).
`
BaKhan, it especially makes sense when you have more than one hobby/pastime you love like that. Funny, though, that the grief your friends gave you was the opposite, why do the other stuff when you know it's not productive, come back and devote all your time to this one hobby!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T06:59:44-04:00
Morning kittens.
*sigh* What a week. That's all I got to say.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T10:02:44-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T10:03:32-04:00
@Geist, you've got this! Two months and a bit till Halloween! ;) Can't wait till you get here!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T10:13:18-04:00
@BaKhan: I got confirmation yesterday that I can have that time off. Kitten Con 2 is a go!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T11:01:26-04:00
Morning, all! Sorry I haven't been in this week. It's been hectic.
GM, I'll trade you days off. I only get seven, and two of them are in July. I think every company should figure out a way to give everyone at least one paid holiday every month. Even the ones that never close. Also, I just learned yesterday that the people who do our payroll don't have a way to automatically pull timecard information from our timecard software into their payroll software. It all has to be manually entered. I think that sounds like an absolute nightmare!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T11:02:12-04:00
Congrats on getting the time off, Geist! I wish I could be there!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T11:17:10-04:00
@LZ: There was a program segment on NPR yesterday that dealt with the topic of why Americans don't use all of their vacation. Some of the people said they were afraid of not having a job when they got back. Others, like single mothers, say they use their vacations only when their children are sick from school. One of the panel said that you defiantly want to use your vacation else you are leaving money on the table.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T11:19:22-04:00
I never will understand companies that don't give their workers more time off. Eventually you will get burned out. I would love to change my hours so that I work 10 hours/4 days a week and get every Monday off. I had that in the telecommunications company 8 years ago and it was great.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T11:23:14-04:00
@Geist, yisss!!! That is so great! As you can tell, I'm a little bit stoked about that... ;) Can't wait! And hey, this time I'll know who I'm looking for at the airport, but you can still get a Timmies if you want... ;p
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T11:27:57-04:00
I worked for Imperial Oil for a while when I first got out of trade school, they worked 8.5 hours every day and every other Friday off whether it was a stat holiday or not, that was the best place that I've worked for time off. Every other week was a long weekend, its much easier to handle that way. I agree that more companies should look into ways to get their employees more time off. I think the problem is, that we value ourselves and each other too little. Everyone is seen as replaceable, and I don't agree with that. The best team is not made up of superstars, its made up of people that work well together, and who pull up those that are getting left behind. Jeopardizing the team for the sake of not letting someone take time off if they need it, is just crazy to me. But, hey, at the same time, I don't own a company so... yeah. ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T11:29:08-04:00
@LZ, I wish you could come too, but given the last year that you've had, totally get it. I'm just glad that you're feeling better bro! We'll eventually meet up, its going to happen! I mean you have to get a chance to shake your head at me in person, right? ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T12:44:36-04:00
@BaKhan: I am so looking forward to hanging out with you and Misty. And Pumpkin too. :-)
This will be the only vacation time that I will be using for this whole year. I'm way overdue for one.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T12:50:20-04:00
@BaKhan, indeed. It'll probably be next year. I just won't have the PTO this year because sick days aren't a thing here, which is also ridiculous. I mean, we get long-term sick leave, but that doesn't kick in until the third consecutive day, unless you are admitted to the hospital. So that means that all of the days that I've had to take off for MRI's and follow-up visits with the oncologist came out of my PTO. The way I see it, PTO should be for vacation time, not taking time off for health reasons. Especially when the company says things like, "If you have flu-like symptoms, stay home and recuperate, instead of coming to work and spreading it around." Well, I would if you gave me a separate bucket of sick days to take off, so getting the lava sharts wouldn't mean that I have to choose between going on a cruise for a week or spending a week in Canada!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T13:01:33-04:00
@LZ, I totally agree, that just seems so crazy to me. The only places I've ever worked that didn't provide pto were temporary positions, where you wouldn't expect that kind of consideration. For you full time employer to try and justify not providing dedicated sick days is nuts. My last job, we had six per year, with a bonus if you didn't use them all. You needed to work two months and you got one sick day. That way people couldn't take advantage of it, but if they needed it, it was there. I am hopeful that next year allows for you to come up, and promise that I'll do what it takes to make it worth your while if you should so choose to use your preciously little time off to do that! I'm very honoured that you would even consider it tbh! Also, given the choice between a week long cruise or coming to Canada, I think you made the right choice! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T13:03:02-04:00
@Geist, we are all very honoured that you have chosen to spend your only vacation time with us! Not sure how we rate that, but we had so much fun last time, that you are always welcome in our home, any time!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T13:28:51-04:00
Well, it's not that I don't get much time (being that I've worked here for 9 years, I get 5 hours per paycheck, so that's 60 hours per year), it's more that I've had to use it for things that really should have been sick days, but it was a day here and a day there. Last year, I burned through all 160 hours or so of my accumulated PTO, and I don't like not having a cushion of PTO in case of an emergency. Next year, I should have that cushion again. Not to mention that I'll have been here ten years next June, so I'll start getting six hours per paycheck.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-10T14:02:22-04:00
@LZ & BaKhan: my job doesn't have sick leave either. It is all PTO. Another reason why I don't use all of mine. My company lets you have up to 300 hours of vacation time before fiscal year end. I have to use half of that in order not to lose it. (My boss had this but lost it anyway because the work load was such, she couldn't take time off)
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T14:25:45-04:00
I made a mathematical error. 5 hours per paycheck is 120 hours per year, so three weeks total.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-10T14:33:18-04:00
@LZ, my last employer was the same, you moved up to 4 weeks at 10 years, so thats not too bad, just have to get that sick day thing figured out!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-10T17:31:30-04:00
My mom found an interesting little side-job for she, me, and he (being my brother). It's pretty interesting, and not nearly as hard as detasseling, but then you don't get nearly the money and it still made me take a 2+ hour nap when I meant for it to be 30 minutes. And your hands hurt a bit if you use bare hands instead of the cutter. It's just a thing that they call whenever some are ripe and they need people to pick, and then at the end of the season you're tempted to go blow all the money at the winery. ;)
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-10T21:15:19-04:00
And I'm back to painting!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-11T06:06:51-04:00
Morning kittens.
@BaKhan: That campaign is giving me Peachy Printer vibes. I hope it doesn't end up like that campaign did.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T09:48:35-04:00
@LZ, huzzah! Whatcha painting?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T09:48:48-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T09:51:43-04:00
@Geist, yeah, I'm not sure what to think tbh. I don't know very much about 3d printers, and I've always wanted one, for printing minis and tabletop accessories, card holders, etc. I just think that this one seems too good to be true. I know that the sla type printing is what I'm looking for as it has better definition, higher dpi, etc. I just wish I knew if this one was legit or not, as for $160, thats a steal of a deal. Closest comparison I can find is over $600. Which kinda begs the question, how can this one be so cheap, and still be any good / work at all...
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-11T10:58:29-04:00
@BaKhan: Why not back that campaign for $1 and post the question in the comments section? See what answer you get.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T11:01:45-04:00
@BaKhan, right now, toxic walkers and toxic fatties. Then I'll move on to the toxic runners and the toxic abomination. From there, the rest of Zombicide Seasons 1-3 and their expansions. Then I'll start on Black Plague. It would be great to be done before Green Horde comes, but I kind of doubt I will be. Then there's The Others that are just begging to be painted.
@LZ, damn son! You'll be painting all of that forever! ;) Thats got to be a lot of minis. I can't remember my exact count for Z:BP but it was well over 200 minis... If the season of moderncide were the same... you're looking at near 1000 minis to paint! My advice for the genenric zombs is prime with rotted flesh, and dip 'em. You should be able to get some decent results without killing yourself too bad! ;) Still, congrats! I finally finished off my Dark Souls stuff last week! Now I'm waiting on Massive Darkness to arrive! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T11:08:20-04:00
@Geist, I have done exactly that! I'll let you guys know what I'm able to find out!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T11:12:10-04:00
Well, I didn't get in on the KS's for the Moderncide seasons, so there aren't quite as many minis to paint. It's just a few hundred. The guy who taught me has also agreed to help.
@BaKhan: What about Folklore? Aren't you also waiting on that one to come in?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T11:21:28-04:00
@GM, lol, yes, but I think that Massive Darkness will be first supposed to be getting notice today/early next week. I won't get a chance to play it till the end of the month as I foolishly promised to make my sister in laws wedding cake though... sigh. ;) Folklore is very highly anticipated, did you see the unboxing/demo video the GBG just released? It looks fantastic! Still waiting on so many other games too! Vampire Hunters and The Walking Dead are due out this year as well. I'm going to be swimming in minis! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T11:22:43-04:00
@LZ, its good to have help! I'm too ocd to have someone help me though, I'd be staring over their shoulder the whole time, and getting nothing done myself! ;) But, seeing as how its the guy who taught you, I think you'll be good!
@BaKhan: I haven't watched it yet. But I'm going to be swimming as well(have Dark Souls, Endure the Stars, and The Others already - waiting on Vampire, Massive, Folklore, and Shadows of Brimstone for minis that will need to be painted).
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T11:39:48-04:00
@GM, I don't know why, but I've totally lost interest in TO:7S. I just can't seem to find myself motivated to even bring it out. For big games night we normally play Z:BP, and will most likely be transitioning to MD, and for smaller groups/solo, I've been playing a lot of DS, lots of people bitching about it, but it is as close as a boardgame can get to a video game, imo. I skipped out on SoB as the asian theme just doesn't interest me all that much, some nice mins there though. The one I'm most looking forward to for next years delivery is Village Attacks! Getting to play the monsters for a change is pretty sweet, and the sculpts look off the hook!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T12:05:34-04:00
Yeah, if it were anyone else, I'd tell them to sod right off with their offer of help. But I know this guy will do an excellent job, and he'll ask me what kind of color scheme I want.
I'll admit, TO:7S isn't quite as much fun as I thought it would be. I find it's too easy for the Sins player to win. Of course, that could just be because I'm always playing Sin and I've only ever played it with my wife and older kid. I find myself having to hold back or make bad decisions in order to help them have fun. I keep hoping that I can play it with some more strategy-minded people to see whether I'm correct, but nobody is ever interested in playing.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T12:32:29-04:00
@LZ, thats my issue with TO:7S as well, I can see that coming from a mile away and I haven't even played it yet. I hate playing to let someone else win. I won't even cheat on tic tac toe with my little 3 year old nephew... he's gotta learn sometime... ;) The minis are cool, and I'll definitely get to the apoc box at some point because they are my faves for sure, but they will most likely just wind up as display pieces. Sigh, oh well, you can't win them all! ;)
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T13:02:31-04:00
Oh, I don't let them win. I just don't destroy them as quickly as I could.
It's been a while since I've played it, though. I think I might need to dig it out and refresh my understanding of the rules to see if there's anything we can house rule to make it more balanced
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T13:05:55-04:00
I think the biggest challenge is that the players have to be very willing to sacrifice their characters for the greater good, and most have a problem with that idea.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T13:24:24-04:00
Indeed. The last time we played, they were more willing to do that, which made things a little more difficult for me. They may have even won that one, but only just barely. The other thing if I can play with friends, is I'm much less of a softy then.
I almost succeeded in getting my brothers to play last time they were here, but I made the mistake of taking everything I have to my parents' house. They looked at the big box and said they were too intimidated by the game. They didn't want to listen when I told them how little of it you actually use. I think next time, I'll just take the basic game and see how that goes.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-11T13:38:52-04:00
Oh yeah, it is Friday. Though I'm also picking grapes tomorrow. I mentioned that job, right? It doesn't pay much, I only made like $85 both today and yesterday, but it's not bad for something to do when you have nothing else at all going on, and anyone can use a bit of extra money!
That also happens to be why I'm gone and not talking all the day, especially since for some reason nobody ever talks after lunchtime. In the morning, it's all chatter in here, then in the afternoon, it's naptime apparently.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T13:39:41-04:00
@LZ, yeah, maybe just take one sin with you next time... ;) I've got a few friends that don't get butt hurt if you're playing against them, but normally I prefer full co-op as there is less whining... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T13:41:01-04:00
@Zem, hopefully the grape picking isn't as intensive as the detasseling was. ;) Fwiw, in the afternoons I'm normally making up for wasting all morning chatting on ks... ;)
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T13:51:33-04:00
That's also why I tend to prefer full co-op. The interesting thing is that I've played Zombicide a few times with my brothers; and every time I do, we lose. And not just by a little. It's a crushing defeat. If I play the same mission with a different group, we usually win. I think it's because everyone defers to my oldest brother (the doctor) because he's really smart. But he gets bogged down with trying to fight all the zombies (including the ones behind the group), and doesn't like being told that it's not a good idea. He's also bad at deciding when to split up the group and how many smaller groups there need to be.
I generally prefer to open as many doors as I can while we're still in the blue. This somtimes results in people going off in pairs, but the end result is that there are fewer zombies (if any at all) in each room than if we all stick together. On the other hand, I also make sure to have an easy way back to the main group for more support. He likes to stay as a clump for too long, or have individuals go open doors. This generally ends badly.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T13:54:33-04:00
The point of all that is that I'm not sure how much of a challenge he would actually present in TO:7S, now that I think about it.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T14:00:25-04:00
Sounds like he's too much in his own head. Doctors are great and all but I find that decision making is harder for them when they don't have guidelines to follow, they tend to be a bit institutionalized. They are much more used to going with tried and true vs exploratory and risky. Also fwiw, I have yet to meet a doctor I would say is "smarter" than me, better able to force themselves to study, heck yes, but quicker on the uptake not so much... ;) School of hard knocks for this guy! ;)
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T14:10:20-04:00
Indeed. The other thing is that he's really good at chess. But, he's also read the books, so he doesn't really use his own strategies. The only time I've beat him at chess was when we were playing Strato Chess (3 layers of chess boards with the ability to move from one to another). StarCraft, on the other hand... Well, I'm far superior to him there.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-11T14:11:34-04:00
@BaKhan: So we will play a game of Z:BP when I get there, yes?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T14:53:10-04:00
@LZ, lol, its like we love them, even if they are doctors... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T14:55:06-04:00
@Geist, oh heck yeah! We'll make that happen! My friend brought over a custom chest that he made for me to store all of its goodness on Tuesday! It is by far the coolest thing someone has ever made for me game wise. I can't wait to show it and the game itself off to you! Who doesn't like powning zombies? ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-11T14:56:27-04:00
Nah, BaKhan, this is much easier. I mean, still wears on you a bit, but much easier than that.
`
That sort of makes sense about doctors. They have to be encyclopedias, and risk-taking isn't always something you want in your doctor, so it makes sense if they're a bit more conserved and reliant on what they know, or think they know, to work and see them through.

Did that double-post just now? Wow, I thought it stopped randomly doing that a long time ago!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T14:59:46-04:00
My next woodworking project will be making a modular jig that will hold the Zombicide tiles in place. After that, I'll probably make a chest to hold them all.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T15:03:18-04:00
@LZ, I'm actually working on a prototype for a tile holding system myself! I don't want to talk about it in detail here, as we don't know who's lurking. But it will be small, inobtrusive, and won't damage the tiles. I'm hoping that I can get a friend of mine to help me with the prototype as he has a 3d printer and I think that would be the fastest and easiest way to try out different things. Funny how great minds think alike! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-11T15:05:14-04:00
@Zem, good to hear! And yeah, extra money is always welcomed! ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-11T15:41:44-04:00
Especially for someone like me. At this rate, in just these 3 days (there should be more), I will have earned well over $100, which is plenty to keep me for over a month if I'm not stupid about eating out! Particularly since I'm thinking about cutting completely back on all expenses to save for studying abroad, so $100 may end up ,keeping me for a few months!
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T15:55:16-04:00
Where are you planning on going for your studies? I would have loved to go to Leiden University, but there's no way I could have afforded it.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-11T17:03:22-04:00
Berlin, though I forget the name of the university this program goes to. Interesting thing is it's not really a normal semester, it's practically all for learning German and culture, and the best part is that it's pretty much an automatic minor, almost a major if you stay for the summer semester, which I'll look into.
Lord Zombitten 2017-08-11T18:51:17-04:00
That would be cool
David Guidry "Doc" 2017-08-11T22:35:53-04:00

Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-12T06:14:59-04:00
LZ, it should be, I'm looking forward to it!
`
Doc, just make sure you don't make that same mistake on your thesis! ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-08-12T12:58:52-04:00
Doc, unless you're making a pun, that you're going to "doctor-it".
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-14T03:52:11-04:00
Morning kittens! Just got my first pay stub from work, nice to see and extra third over what I was making before... yippie! Think of all the stuffs! ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-14T10:42:32-04:00
@BaKhan: Woot! So happy for you and you get to work from home. If I could do that, I'd be in my sleep clothes most of the day. Of course, I don't have a companion like Pumpkin to keep me company so it would be kinda lonely.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-08-14T10:43:25-04:00
In other news: peaches are in season so tonight I'm going to start making a batch of homemade peach schnapps. It will be my first time doing it and I hope it comes out lovely.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-14T10:45:53-04:00
@Geist, lol! Well, I work from home till we take possesion of the new office on Sept. 1st. So that part is rapidly coming to an end, sadly... ;) Sleep clothes wize, I still get dressed but I only shave if I'm going out or have to meet with someone, so that parts nice. As per Pumpkin, well, what can I say. You know how she likes to wake people up at all ungodly hours? Yeah, its like that during the day too. Which is what it is, I mean, I love that cat (or she would have been gone a long time ago), but when I'm on the phone and she decides to go off like an air raid siren, it can be a little embarrassing. I had a vendor asking who was dying the other day... >.>
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-08-14T10:46:40-04:00
@Geist, that sounds awesome! So what goes into peach schnapps anyways?
Morning kittens.
@Doc: The same life usually treats people. Through the ringer.
Morning, all!
Hello, Doc! What's up?
Hey Doc! How is the family?
Morning Doc! Things are well over here, and I hope with you as well!
Doc! Long time no see! How's life been for you? We've all had our ups and downs, about which you can read over the last maybe 30,000 comments if you have the time. ;)
yah I'm doing good and so is the family ... going to school now working on my bachelors in kinesiology and then doctorit in physical therapy
That's really cool, Doc! Then you'll also be a Doc! Unless you continue to spell it "doctorit". ;)
I found this on FB and thought of Ex-Prez

Morning kittens.
It's Monday, a holiday here, and I'm stuck in the office working...don't even get a day off in lieu because the company doesn't recognize it as a holiday. Hopefully today goes smoothly. -.-
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens!
@GM, I'm sorry to hear that! When a company is operating internationally, they should recognize the local holidays as well. At least give you a day in lieu. I hope you didn't work too hard!
HAHA!
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens!
@Zem, a win, is a win! Just enjoy that feeling as long as you can, no matter how trivial it may seem. That sense of satisfaction, means something right? Theres enough people and events that will try and take that feeling away from you, why help them with that? I say, if it makes you feel good, and it doesn't hurt anyone, enjoy it! ;)
BaKhan, well in that case, I felt accomplishment from doing something fun like watching videos, so it's like that feeling you get after finishing a long and complex game finally. Even if you shouldn't have been playing for the last 5 hours, it's done.
Even if it is "only" for a game, the enjoyment I got out of the process was very real. ;)
Thats how I see it. ;)
Morning kittens.
*sigh* What a week. That's all I got to say.
Morning kittens!
@Geist, you've got this! Two months and a bit till Halloween! ;) Can't wait till you get here!
@BaKhan: I got confirmation yesterday that I can have that time off. Kitten Con 2 is a go!
Congrats on getting the time off, Geist! I wish I could be there!
I never will understand companies that don't give their workers more time off. Eventually you will get burned out. I would love to change my hours so that I work 10 hours/4 days a week and get every Monday off. I had that in the telecommunications company 8 years ago and it was great.
@Geist, yisss!!! That is so great! As you can tell, I'm a little bit stoked about that... ;) Can't wait! And hey, this time I'll know who I'm looking for at the airport, but you can still get a Timmies if you want... ;p
But, hey, at the same time, I don't own a company so... yeah. ;)
@LZ, I wish you could come too, but given the last year that you've had, totally get it. I'm just glad that you're feeling better bro! We'll eventually meet up, its going to happen! I mean you have to get a chance to shake your head at me in person, right? ;)
@BaKhan: I am so looking forward to hanging out with you and Misty. And Pumpkin too. :-)
This will be the only vacation time that I will be using for this whole year. I'm way overdue for one.
Also, given the choice between a week long cruise or coming to Canada, I think you made the right choice! ;)
@Geist, we are all very honoured that you have chosen to spend your only vacation time with us! Not sure how we rate that, but we had so much fun last time, that you are always welcome in our home, any time!
@LZ & BaKhan: my job doesn't have sick leave either. It is all PTO. Another reason why I don't use all of mine. My company lets you have up to 300 hours of vacation time before fiscal year end. I have to use half of that in order not to lose it. (My boss had this but lost it anyway because the work load was such, she couldn't take time off)
I made a mathematical error. 5 hours per paycheck is 120 hours per year, so three weeks total.
@LZ, my last employer was the same, you moved up to 4 weeks at 10 years, so thats not too bad, just have to get that sick day thing figured out!
Does anyone know much about 3d printers? Is this one too good to be true? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/249504031/sparkmaker-the-most-affordable-desktop-sla-3d-prin/description
It's just a thing that they call whenever some are ripe and they need people to pick, and then at the end of the season you're tempted to go blow all the money at the winery. ;)
And I'm back to painting!
Morning kittens.
@BaKhan: That campaign is giving me Peachy Printer vibes. I hope it doesn't end up like that campaign did.
@LZ, huzzah! Whatcha painting?
Morning kittens!
@BaKhan: Why not back that campaign for $1 and post the question in the comments section? See what answer you get.
Morning kittens. Thankfully it's Friday.
Now I'm waiting on Massive Darkness to arrive! ;)
@Geist, I have done exactly that! I'll let you guys know what I'm able to find out!
Well, I didn't get in on the KS's for the Moderncide seasons, so there aren't quite as many minis to paint. It's just a few hundred. The guy who taught me has also agreed to help.
@BaKhan: What about Folklore? Aren't you also waiting on that one to come in?
@GM, lol, yes, but I think that Massive Darkness will be first supposed to be getting notice today/early next week. I won't get a chance to play it till the end of the month as I foolishly promised to make my sister in laws wedding cake though... sigh. ;) Folklore is very highly anticipated, did you see the unboxing/demo video the GBG just released? It looks fantastic! Still waiting on so many other games too! Vampire Hunters and The Walking Dead are due out this year as well. I'm going to be swimming in minis! ;)
Sigh, oh well, you can't win them all! ;)
Oh, I don't let them win. I just don't destroy them as quickly as I could.
It's been a while since I've played it, though. I think I might need to dig it out and refresh my understanding of the rules to see if there's anything we can house rule to make it more balanced
I think the biggest challenge is that the players have to be very willing to sacrifice their characters for the greater good, and most have a problem with that idea.
@LZ, yeah, maybe just take one sin with you next time... ;) I've got a few friends that don't get butt hurt if you're playing against them, but normally I prefer full co-op as there is less whining... ;)
@Zem, hopefully the grape picking isn't as intensive as the detasseling was. ;) Fwiw, in the afternoons I'm normally making up for wasting all morning chatting on ks... ;)
The point of all that is that I'm not sure how much of a challenge he would actually present in TO:7S, now that I think about it.
Sounds like he's too much in his own head. Doctors are great and all but I find that decision making is harder for them when they don't have guidelines to follow, they tend to be a bit institutionalized. They are much more used to going with tried and true vs exploratory and risky. Also fwiw, I have yet to meet a doctor I would say is "smarter" than me, better able to force themselves to study, heck yes, but quicker on the uptake not so much... ;) School of hard knocks for this guy! ;)
@BaKhan: So we will play a game of Z:BP when I get there, yes?
@LZ, lol, its like we love them, even if they are doctors... ;)
@Geist, oh heck yeah! We'll make that happen! My friend brought over a custom chest that he made for me to store all of its goodness on Tuesday! It is by far the coolest thing someone has ever made for me game wise. I can't wait to show it and the game itself off to you! Who doesn't like powning zombies? ;)

My next woodworking project will be making a modular jig that will hold the Zombicide tiles in place. After that, I'll probably make a chest to hold them all.
Funny how great minds think alike! ;)
@Zem, good to hear! And yeah, extra money is always welcomed! ;)
Where are you planning on going for your studies? I would have loved to go to Leiden University, but there's no way I could have afforded it.
Berlin, though I forget the name of the university this program goes to. Interesting thing is it's not really a normal semester, it's practically all for learning German and culture, and the best part is that it's pretty much an automatic minor, almost a major if you stay for the summer semester, which I'll look into.
That would be cool
lol dont hate on my autocorrect spellling I never check it XD .... doctorate
LZ, it should be, I'm looking forward to it!
`
Doc, just make sure you don't make that same mistake on your thesis! ;)
Doc, unless you're making a pun, that you're going to "doctor-it".
Morning kittens
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens! Just got my first pay stub from work, nice to see and extra third over what I was making before... yippie! Think of all the stuffs! ;)
@BaKhan: Woot! So happy for you and you get to work from home. If I could do that, I'd be in my sleep clothes most of the day. Of course, I don't have a companion like Pumpkin to keep me company so it would be kinda lonely.
In other news: peaches are in season so tonight I'm going to start making a batch of homemade peach schnapps. It will be my first time doing it and I hope it comes out lovely.
I had a vendor asking who was dying the other day... >.>
@Geist, that sounds awesome! So what goes into peach schnapps anyways?
