Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-20T15:05:00-04:00
GM, that's what I'm thinking as well. It seems strange to require a much higher degree when that's not probably going to solve anything if the best applicants by far for that position would rather be people with years of experience required, even if most of those people don't have a masters or Ph.D. Then again, companies don't always seem to follow the best logic.
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-20T15:23:41-04:00
Okay, so the higher education won't be necessary, but it would be helpful. The company is looking at bringing a mass spec system on board for urine toxicology. It's a highly compkex system, and I am not currently qualified to be the technical supervisor over such a system. There is a guy who is willing to be a contractor and take on that role until I have the necessary experience. Without a Master's degree, that would be four years. With one, it would be two. If I want to be the lab director, I'd have to get a PhD.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-20T16:11:43-04:00
So... what are you now then? Are you saying to be in a higher position than you are now, you need more education? But for now, because of this machine, you need just experience with it. Something like that?
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-20T17:35:11-04:00
Right now, the lab is a moderate complexity lab, so I'm the lab director and technical consultant, as well as the lab manager. With the change, I would be the lab manager, but the other two positions would have to be outsourced until I get the experience necessary to be the technical supervisor. For a high-complexity lab, you have to have a doctorate in order to be the lab director.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-20T20:28:23-04:00
Ah, okay, that makes sense. Also pretty interesting. Would that make a dent in your pay? Because in that case, it really sucks, but otherwise, good luck getting that experience, hope it doesn't disrupt your job too much in the meantime!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-21T07:10:40-04:00
Morning kittens!
Yesterday, I had the worse time dragging myself out of bed. It was bumming me out that my manager could care less if we work ourselves to exhaustion but hits the roof if I take an unpaid day off. People wonder why I've never married and had kids. A big chunk of that reason is because I've worked in offices that frown on workers having a life.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-21T08:34:08-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-21T08:36:18-04:00
@LZ, I hope it all works out for you brother! I mean, we all know you're more than smart enough to handle the education part, just can you handle that, a job, and a family? Thats the real question, as well as would the inevitable sacrifice be worth it in the end? I've got faith in you to make the best decision, and we're all here if you need to bounce some ideas off of us too! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-21T09:24:09-04:00
@Geist, I think its easy for someone to sit back and say, you should have put yourself first and you happiness should trump everything else... but they probably aren't in a situation where you had little to no family support, no sort of a nest egg to fall back on, and the bills weren't going to pay themselves. The truth is, there is no easy life, everyone (well most of us anyways) has to figure it out on their own, and we do the best we can at the time. The problem with most office jobs, is that they pay you enough to get by, but not enough to get ahead. Had you of been able to save up, and go back to school, you would definitely be in a better place, financially and mentally. However, they would never pay you enough to get ahead, no matter how much you sacrificed. A person still has to get by, the best that they can, with what they have. Given, how much you care about others, volunteer your time, focus on supporting the little guy, etc., I think that you are just about as awesome as anyone can be! Take care of yourself! Halloween is coming fast! ;)
Nothing like a nice 30min walk, in freezing rain, to start your day(power outage downtown that prevented trains from going through...and one shuttle bus every 15min for the 1000+ people that need to get from the train stations just outside the core to various parts of the core).
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-21T11:06:56-04:00
@GM, dang, I didn't even hear about that happening! That must have been pure chaos!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-21T12:53:34-04:00
GM, wow, that sounds terrible! That's going to upset alot of people's days and schedules, and probably make for a bunch of panicked, rushed traffic everywhere to try to make it there on time.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-21T14:39:20-04:00
Oh my god, I dream of freezing rain! WHY IS IT SO HOT?! I'm not kidding, all of August, we only hit 90 degrees 2 or 3 days. Now, in late september, the past 2 weeks have been hotter than all of August! The majority of the days have gotten up to 90-95! Today and onwards are a high of 94, 95, and 91 during the football game I'm going to be standing out in the sun in a uniform ushering!
Thank god next week gets down to 70! My mom must be regretting not flying to Europe a week sooner!
See, the worst of it is that my brain was already acclimating to colder weather because of how abnormally cool August was, but now it's being sun-dried. Next week is going to throw it off even more!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-21T22:18:30-04:00
Read this and thought LZ might like this. I would give it a go.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-22T00:12:13-04:00
Anyone know who BertramFra would be? Because if not, yet another spammer on the Litter Box. Though not really spam this time, but in the Kitty Chow section, they responded to something LZ said and said "It's a bit messy but I bet it tastes great." Why? Where do these people come from and why now and why just a single comment like that? That's their only post, joined Aug. 29 this year and commented several days later on sept. 5. What the hell?!
`
I mean, I don't really care, we've sort of abandoned that place by now and this person wasn't spamming some random sketchy links, but none of this makes any sense. Who leaked the Litter Box to whom and why are these people sacrificing the lamb necessary to create an account there only to post one comment to a random thing?!

Morning kittens! So glad it's Friday. Got in the office early and will be leaving in precisely 8.5 hours. Got another busy weekend. A book festival and a neighborhood festival tomorrow in the day time and an all night art festival in the evening/into Sunday morning. Should be loads of fun.
@BaKhan: Thanks for the kind words. There are plenty of days when I feel like I've wasted my life. I did the best that I could despite the burden of an abusive childhood. I should be much further along and I kinda feel like I've run out of time. Still, nothing to do but move forward, right?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-22T10:20:44-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-22T10:29:41-04:00
@Geist, I think that the only thing we can do, is not let the bad influences from the past, control our future. I know all too well what an abusive childhood and its after effects can do, I feel for you. In my mind though, letting that stuff affect you now, just continues that cycle. And that makes those that did those things to you and treated you that way win, and to me thats unacceptable. You deserve happiness, you deserve a rewarding future, the only limits we have on those things are our own perseverance and ability to love ourselves. I know that its hard, I know that it will probably be a daily struggle. I still hear those cruel words, and bear the scars of the past, but I survived in spite of it all, and I know that those negative thoughts (voices) are not my own, and they are not looking out for my best interests. Try not to focus on where you should be, instead focus on where you could go! I think you're there, you maybe just need a little push. ;) But you do deserve to be happy, and achieve the goals that you have set for yourself. You are an awesome, compassionate person, that sacrifices themselves for others, you should feel no shame about where you are in your life! You should be proud of what you have already accomplished, how far you've come, and how much further you can go! Moving forward, certainly, but also moving upwards! ;)
Morning kittens. Finally Friday, my manager isn't in today, the practicum student we have isn't in today due to a sick kid, so I think I will be leaving early(YAY!!!).
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-22T11:04:37-04:00
Geist, just remember that it's never too late to live your dreams.
The weather is crazy, I tells ya! Last week, we had highs in the mid 80's. Today's high is expected to be 55!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-22T11:46:48-04:00
@LZ: I'll trade you some of that cool weather for some of the 90 degree heat we are suppose to be getting tomorrow.
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-22T12:32:04-04:00
Sounds good, but instead of doing a straight up trade, how about you just send us about 20 of those degrees, then we can both be happy at about 70!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-22T13:36:22-04:00
@LZ: Sounds good to me. I hate sweltering in the sun. A nice spring temperature would be perfect for this weekend.
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-22T13:58:37-04:00
Geist, that sounds like an awesome horror attraction! When I first saw the link (before actually looking at it and entering it into my browser, as the KS app doesn't allow you to click links), I thought maybe it was about McKamey Manor, which is an experience I would never want to go through.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-22T14:39:27-04:00
LZ, could I possibly be in the middle of that, to feel the breeze on its way to Geist? It's, not even kidding, 95 here. It's hell. I'll take whatever I can get. How about all 3 of us average out to 80?
`
Or even better, we get the Canadian weather in on this and we'll all settle to a place where we're much happier! They seem to have a high of 43 today, 2 of them there, so the average works out to 65 degrees F, warmer than the cold areas and colder than the warm areas! It's perfect!
`
Not to mention I have to usher in over 90 again tomorrow. I'm going to hate my life. 3 games in a row at or over 90 degrees!!! That's never happened, it always gets down after the first or second game!

Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-25T09:27:54-04:00
Morning kittens. Another busy weekend. Went to another D.C. festival and then tried to make it to a book fair in the next state. Got the directions wrong and ended up in the new casino that opened about a year ago. The place was packed and I personally witnessed 3 people within a space of 20 minutes win jackpots that ranged from $1,200 to $3,100. I might have to go up there and play sometime within the next few months.
I also tried to attend an all night art fair. Visited the Peruvian embassy and purchased a bottle of their Unholy Grape brandy. They served it in a cocktail called "Superfly". They said they would send me the recipe so that I could make it at home. Saw some other art displays, had a late dinner and was home by 2 am. Nothing happening this coming weekend so I'll get a break then back to the festival celebrations.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-25T09:44:39-04:00
Geist, as Bob Ross said, there're only happy little accidents. Now you have a good new casino to go check out sometime!

RAIN!!! And how! Man, it hasn't stopped raining since yesterday evening and apparently won't until tomorrow afternoon. But with what it's doing to the weather, thank you, skies, for being so grey! The weather'll drop by almost 30 degrees! From 94 last thurs. to 63 and 65 today and tomorrow! Oh, it feels so nice out finally!

Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-27T07:18:27-04:00
Morning kittens.
I decided to do something I never do in a weekday (outside of Friday evenings). I went to the movies to take advantage of the $5 Tuesdays ticket price. Went to see IT and Kingsmen: The Golden Circle. The first movie was shown in a regular theater but this had the plush seats that recline back. IT is a decent horror movie. Didn't scare me but I wasn't bored even though I was able to predict some of the plot twist. (I haven't read the book in ages so it's almost like the movie was brand new to me)
The Kingsmen sequel was entertaining even with the glaring plot holes. IMO, it was better than the first movie. I didn't like Samuel Jackson's interpretation of the villain in the first movie. Julianne Moore's villain performance was milder than Samuel's but I liked it. The stunts were amazing! I swear, I'm going to have to put on my bucket list lasso lessons.
The only thing was, Kingsmen was shown in an IMAX theater. I had to pay more money but I didn't see anything amazing about the experience. They had the old seats and the sounds and visuals were standard. Having a bigger screen does not make the movie better.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T08:33:22-04:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T08:40:09-04:00
@Geist, thats awesome! I hope that we're going to see IT this weekend. I loved that book so much and was hoping for a decent movie version as I didn't care for the mini series of years ago. Didn't that one have "John Boy" as one of the lead characters? ;P As far as lasso, I used to have a lariat, it got caught up in a car wash at a gas station I worked at, so I took it home, not before it beat the crap out of some car first though... it got wrapped around on of the rollers that would go over the top of the vehicle, and the car couldn't back up far enough to get out of the way of it... I'm sure the owners weren't too happy about that... but it was cool to have. The weird thing that I didn't know about the lariat was how stiff it was, being a suburban kid I'd never even seen one in person prior to that. It doesn't feel like a rope at all, more like raw hide I guess.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-27T08:55:45-04:00
@BaKhan: I am picky about the movies I will see in the theater since the prices have gone through the roof. Even the matinee prices are $12 because of the fancy seating they put in the theaters. If I'm spending my hard earned dough, it's because of a movie I am really interested in watching. Like Bladerunner 2049, Battle of the Sexes or Happy Death Day.
Only the Landmark theaters are the ones I will buy food from. I love that they show independent movies and documentaries. AMC and Loews, I'll sneak snacks in.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T09:09:21-04:00
@Geist, yeah, I hear that. We don't got to all that many movies either. Maybe 6 or 7 in a year, its more of a time thing, as in not enough of it. ;) I've never actually been to a movie theater in the states before so that would be a neat experience, regardless of venue, just for novelties sake. Our theaters are pretty much all the same, with the same over priced snacks and such. We do have a few different types of seating from the super comfy plush recliners, to standard seats, to the "d" box rumble seats, some are quite expensive, but its all about the experience I guess. ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-27T09:19:33-04:00
@BaKhan: I will say one thing, I like the fact that more and more theaters are serving booze to go with your movie. I had a Hurricane at the AMC and it was not only a decent size cup but the booze was good. Landmark charges top price but you get a small cup with even less booze.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T09:46:35-04:00
I only go to see about one or two movies a year anymore. I wish I could go more often, but it's just so expensive now. Movies went up several dollars when I had to start paying for my own! ;)
Though I'll likely go see the Kingsmen movie with my roommate on Thursday, student deal day.
`
As for a lariat, I hadn't used one, either, for a long time, until I worked at the National Jamboree. It is surprising how stiff it is, but that does kind of make it easier to lay over something when you throw it. Doesn't take long to get the hang of it, and it's pretty fun when you do!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T10:00:48-04:00
@Geist, lol, ;) I'm not surprised... ;) Now if only they could have an herbal refreshment lounge... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T10:04:27-04:00
@Zem, I don't think I went to a single movie when I was in post secondary school, couldn't afford it or much of anything really. My big splurge back then was getting a box of pizza pops! They were so lush... ;) As per the lariat, I only hung it on my wall, which was an eclectic mix of different things, pictures of friends, etc. I did try to swing it around once, smacked myself in the face and thought, yep, not a country boy... ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-27T10:15:05-04:00
@Geist, wow, didn't realize this was a Canadian thing, but I'm sure you guys have some version of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza_Pops Nothing all that special, but I just loved these as a younger man, still don't mind them every once in a while now either tbh... ;)
@BaKhan: A few weeks ago I had a craving for some, so I picked up two individual ones from the Macs by my house...they were definitely exactly as I remember them. Boiling hot insides, with dry pastry.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T11:45:52-04:00
BaKhan, we have something similar, if Totino's Pizza Rolls are similar. I hope so, because those are AMAZING snacks! They're just so addicting. Not even that good, probably, but I have a soft spot for terrible junk food. ;) They're pretty popular here.
`
Also, on money, same here. I realized last week that $20 is a really big splurge for me, like a luxury. Did I need a delicious port-style dessert wine that I really like from a local winery? Probably not, but I couldn't say no to it what with it giving me the sad puppy-dog eyes sitting right next to the mead I was buying. I won't allow myself to go to the store again any time soon (not after how terrible and cursed my willpower is), but that bottle should last a good while, so it's worth it.
`
On my willpower, though, I'm serious, I'm cursed. Literally every time I go to a store, I spend $50 no matter what. I go there for milk and maybe one specific snack, I come back with 3 bags full. I go there for mead and macaroni, I come back with a $20 bottle of dessert wine! And it always comes out to right around $50 exactly! I don't need money or an intervention, I need an old priest and a young priest to save my bank account! ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T11:47:44-04:00
Man, I wish that Top Commenters page was still up. I wonder how many comments I have; I should have crossed my 10th EKLOL some time ago, but I have no clue when! In fact, if I had to guess, I might possibly even be closer to 11K comments by now.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T11:59:46-04:00
@GM, my favourite way of having them, now this may sound gross to some, was to cook it, then let if fully cool down to room temperature, then eat them. The sauce and grease from the cheese would soak into the pastry and soften it a little. Man, I want one now... ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T12:06:53-04:00
And I want pizza rolls, but I haven't had any for a few weeks now! Dang it, I just told you I can't trust myself going back to a store!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T12:11:15-04:00
@Zem, those rolls, are they small, like bite sized? If so, I think I know what your talking about, and while I agree they are terrible, they are also delicious and I have a very similar addiction to crappy foods... ;) As per your will power, my advice to you (which is something that I should do as well) is to only take as much money with you as you are going to need. That way you couldn't blow your budget, even if a whim overtook you!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-27T12:15:46-04:00
Another thing about going to the movies on Tuesdays is that there aren't many people there. The theater made me choose a seat but I pretty much had my pick of seat. There were only 2 of us in the whole theater watching IT and K:TGC had a dozen of us.
@Geist: During the school years, the weekdays are great for going to non-crowded movies. During the summer, not so much.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T14:39:06-04:00
Good point, GM. For me, thursdays aren't quite empty because it's student discount day ($5 plus a small drink and popcorn free!), and Tuesday is $5 movie day for everyone, so I'd imagine it's also a bit more full, but still, yeah, movies on weekdays are great!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T14:48:16-04:00
Also, yes, BaKhan, they're bite-sized. While they may not be terrible, persay, they're definitely not a classy snack. Yet so good! And really addicting! Dang it, I need to stop thinking about this stuff! Speaking of which, I should go actually eat. Maybe that'll help take my mind off of delicious, delicious junk food!
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-27T14:58:31-04:00
Afternoon, all! Junk food is great, and I rarely see a movie in the theaters anymore. We decided it would be less expensive to get a home theater system than going to the movies. We wait for most movies to hit RedBox, so our whole family can see the movie for $1.50, and my popcorn is better than the theaters.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T15:57:55-04:00
LZ, that's kinda what I have to do, though if I were able, I'd go to the theaters all the time. I agree with everything you said, but there's something to be said for the full experience of going to a theater and seeing a great, brand-new movie on a screen larger than some buildings.
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-27T17:22:04-04:00
True, but I find that sitting 12 feet back from a 170 inch screen is about the same as sitting in the middle of a standard theater. Now, I do still go to the theater for the movies that are exciting enough that I don't want to wait for RedBox. Or if someone else is paying. I go then, too.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T18:45:52-04:00
I love going for things in 3D, to go with a bunch of friends, to go see a great movie the day or the day after it comes out, or just to have those super comfy seats in some places for a movie that's worth going. Otherwise, if I had the money, I'd go all the time.
`
See, my roommate found some thing that lets him, for $10/month, see a movie at a great number of theaters FREE once PER DAY! He totally doesn't get his full use out of it, but heck, that's an amazing deal, to go see a movie in a bunch of theaters, including I think the really nice one nearest us, for free whenever he wants! Unfortunately, it's just the price of the movie, not snacks, and he always as a rule gets a large popcorn and drink. Which might be why he doesn't abuse it.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-27T19:06:23-04:00
I prefer to watch movies at home, but if it's one I really want to see, I'll suffer the movie theatre. I need to be more excited by the movie than annoyed at people being people. ;) I mean even my own crinkling and chewing bugs me so... yeah. ;) if the movie isn't great, then the experience can be pretty meh. @LZ has it right though, a nice home theatre, check! Better popcorn, double check! ;) Have you guys heard of the whirlly pop? I suggest checking it out! Crazy good stove top popcorn in a couple minutes, can't go wrong! ;)
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-27T19:21:03-04:00
BaKhan, that's what I use to make my popcorn. It's soo good!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-27T20:49:27-04:00
Yup, that's the thing! My mom's had one since... I think maybe even college, and it still works great! Man, that thing is so great for making popcorn!
Dang it again! Now I want to go home and make some popcorn with that! Use some coconut oil and a ton of butter and salt and you'll eat till you literally can't anymore! We would always make almost literal vats for our family (6 of us, all love popcorn), filling up a gigantic plastic tub, probably like 20 gallons or something most of the way (I'm terrible at volume approximations, usually like 5 batches or so), and by the end of the movie, it'd always be like 90% gone, the rest to be eaten the next day!

Morning kittens!
Ya know, as much as I love shopping, I really wish retailers would stop trying to make Christmas happen earlier and earlier each year. It's not even October and the Halloween stuff is on sale. I saw Christmas displays at the craft store. I don't even think the retailers care about Thanksgiving.
On the plus side, I got some great deals on Halloween goodies to take with me to Calgary this year.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-28T07:18:32-04:00
I need to be more excited by the movie than annoyed at people being people
^This! It's the main reason why I will go to the movies early Saturday mornings (and Tuesday afternoons now). People playing with their phones or talking throughout the picture get on my nerves so quick. I don't even like people sitting real close. I'll get my home theater after I get the house situation sorted.

Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-28T08:05:08-04:00
@LZ, wow! Great minds do think alike! ;) Who'd a thunk it?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-28T08:07:33-04:00
@Geist, its almost like the retailers opened Pandora's box on that one. I don't think we'll ever get them to roll back the launch of a season to a more appropriate time, closer to the actual holiday, sadly. I agree with you, nothing kills the holiday spirit for me more than hearing songs or carols out of season. Best thing a person can do is just avoid those places, till you're ready for them, if you can. ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-28T08:30:35-04:00
@BaKhan: The last time I worked at Macy's, they didn't play Christmas music until Xmas eve. I really appreciated that because after hopping from one store to another, you get tired of hearing the same song by different artist 5 million times. My solution? Bring my IPod and keep the headphones on until I have to speak to someone.
@Geist: Not much good, lots of bad(people being people).
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-28T11:14:01-04:00
@GM: Cheer up! It's almost the weekend. I'm looking forward to either chilling or cooking up a casserole for someone who is going to have a baby next week. Might want to visit a museum or two.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-28T12:16:10-04:00
Oh dear God, don't even mention Christmas music! They start it the second Black Friday could be considered over and it doesn't stop till often after New Years! Dang, I can't even listen to it anymore because for years, between half the radio stations playing them and my mom listening to them the entire month, I got so worn down I can't even stand some of them now!
I'll listen to them from a few days before Christmas, maybe even a week, but hearing them for over a month straight every single year is the worst! I can't even listen to like 3 of the preset radio stations in my car!
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-28T19:02:29-04:00
Well, I broke down and changed my pledge on a Western RPG from the $20 pdf only to the $50 physical book, because that's how I'll get all the decks.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-29T01:32:25-04:00
So... funny thing. On Monday, I'd completely forgotten I had a mini-exam all weekend, so I walked into Calc III and suddenly realized I had 5 minutes to try and review all I could. All things considered, it went pretty well!
Come to get the test back and find I have 47. Now these tests are out of 50 points, and I worked the numbers over and over for like 15 minutes only to find I had gotten 37 points out of 50. No clue what the 47 meant.
Well, I was showing my roommate earlier because I'd told him about this exam before, and he worked through it and realized that my teacher somehow added 10 points to the test when he was counting it up!

Morning kittens. The first day coming to work that it was chilly outside. I think fall is finally here. Better break out my comforter and warm jammies.

Morning BaKhan! Got anything interesting planned for this weekend?
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-29T10:20:43-04:00
Morning GM!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2017-09-29T10:39:50-04:00
@Geist, we're going to see IT on Sunday (matinee), so I'm looking forward to that. Band practice on Saturday, which should be awesome, as last night was the first jam in a couple of weeks as our drummer was off to visit his parents in BC. Things are really coming along well there, when it clicks, it really clicks! Other than that, I might make a stew because I've been craving one for a while now. We'll see... ;) How about with you? Got any exciting plans, any cool conventions? It seems like theres always something awesome going on around you! ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2017-09-29T12:18:51-04:00
@BaKhan: I was going to make and deliver a lasagna to someone who will be having a baby within the next 2 weeks but I haven't heard from her so after work I'm going to try and see if I can watch the movie "Battle of the Sexes" that is showing at a theater two blocks from my job.
Stew! That reminds me: I've got two crock pots that I need to start using use to make some soups to store in the freezer. I printed off some crock pot recipes last night, as a matter of fact. One of the things I love about using mine is that it makes my apartment smell sooooo good for days afterward.
The first weekend in October is one of the last craft festivals and I this one is a personal favorite because there is a thrift store that is open during that time and I usually find such wonderful stuff. I'm going to have to post a picture of the beautiful set of shot glasses that I got for $1.50. I save so much money buying equipment for my kitchen at places like that. As I mentioned before, I purchase the good soaps and lotions for the year there.
PLUS, the state department is holding it's annual book sale. Fiction, cook books, history and lots more are sold at a cheap price. Did I ever tell you how much I love books? :-)
Pity I'm going to miss hanging out with folks at the new Halloween pop up bar. I really wanted to go but I'll pick books over booze any day.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-29T14:34:20-04:00
Wow, that popup bar looks pretty cool, Geist!
I dunno, books vs that place... it's a toss-up, that's for sure! But considering you're one of the few people I know who loves books even more than I do, I'd say go all in, no ragrets! All of the books!!!
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-29T15:47:09-04:00
Well, that new system is coming next Friday. Looks like I'm going back to school....
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2017-09-30T01:58:42-04:00
I don't know why, but I just envisioned that as "Either the machine goes back to school, or I do!"

My daughter just purchased the iOS version of the game. And she mentioned codes to unlock which would be on my original card deck as well as the expansion pack. However, I can't find either. Any chance you guys can help me out. I also kickstarted Bears vs Babies in case that had a code, which I didn't see either. Thanks.
Lord Zombitten 2017-09-30T22:05:49-04:00
@contempt, there's a code in the physical party pack. I think another code is HYPERGOAT! The exclamation is part of the code.
So... what are you now then? Are you saying to be in a higher position than you are now, you need more education? But for now, because of this machine, you need just experience with it. Something like that?
Right now, the lab is a moderate complexity lab, so I'm the lab director and technical consultant, as well as the lab manager. With the change, I would be the lab manager, but the other two positions would have to be outsourced until I get the experience necessary to be the technical supervisor. For a high-complexity lab, you have to have a doctorate in order to be the lab director.
Ah, okay, that makes sense. Also pretty interesting. Would that make a dent in your pay? Because in that case, it really sucks, but otherwise, good luck getting that experience, hope it doesn't disrupt your job too much in the meantime!
Morning kittens!
@LZ, I hope it all works out for you brother! I mean, we all know you're more than smart enough to handle the education part, just can you handle that, a job, and a family? Thats the real question, as well as would the inevitable sacrifice be worth it in the end? I've got faith in you to make the best decision, and we're all here if you need to bounce some ideas off of us too! ;)
Halloween is coming fast! ;)
Morning kittens.
Nothing like a nice 30min walk, in freezing rain, to start your day(power outage downtown that prevented trains from going through...and one shuttle bus every 15min for the 1000+ people that need to get from the train stations just outside the core to various parts of the core).
@GM, dang, I didn't even hear about that happening! That must have been pure chaos!
GM, wow, that sounds terrible! That's going to upset alot of people's days and schedules, and probably make for a bunch of panicked, rushed traffic everywhere to try to make it there on time.
Read this and thought LZ might like this. I would give it a go.
http://www.ilovehalloween.net/halloween-how-to/2017/9/21/this-nyc-horror-attraction-will-actually-kidnap-you-what-happens-after-is-terrifying
Morning kittens!
Geist, just remember that it's never too late to live your dreams.
The weather is crazy, I tells ya! Last week, we had highs in the mid 80's. Today's high is expected to be 55!
@LZ: I'll trade you some of that cool weather for some of the 90 degree heat we are suppose to be getting tomorrow.
Sounds good, but instead of doing a straight up trade, how about you just send us about 20 of those degrees, then we can both be happy at about 70!
@LZ: Sounds good to me. I hate sweltering in the sun. A nice spring temperature would be perfect for this weekend.
Geist, that sounds like an awesome horror attraction! When I first saw the link (before actually looking at it and entering it into my browser, as the KS app doesn't allow you to click links), I thought maybe it was about McKamey Manor, which is an experience I would never want to go through.
Morning kittens!
Geist, as Bob Ross said, there're only happy little accidents. Now you have a good new casino to go check out sometime!
Morning kittens.
@Geist: That sounds like a good weekend.
hello i would like a copy of this exploding cats game
tried to buy but the button did not work
also is it compatible with my windows computer? am running the latest windows vista
lmk
Lol @Oatmeal. You always crack me up. On a serious note, though, will the hidden packs be widely available? My local Target didn't have the big display, so I was unable to snag one. When I asked about it, the employees had no idea what I was talking about.
RAIN!!!
Matthew, have you tried turning it off and on again? If so, make sure it's plugged in.
`
And before you ask, no, unfortunately, it's not ambidextrous. Though it is EU-friendly!
What?! We get a visit from the Oatmeal? Must be my lucky day. Where is the nearest lottery store?
The lest said about Windows Vista, the better.
*less
*sigh* I can tell I'm tired.
Holy smokes! A wild Oatmeal appeared! ;) I love random amusing distractions... oh shiny! ;)
Morning kittens.
T-minus 30 days and counting.
Oh, until the KittenCon mk.II? Dang, you're so lucky! I so wish I were able to go and see you guys and get to explore (the area and food) and play games with you guys!
One of these days...
Morning kittens!
@Geist, its coming up really fast now! I'm betting my wife starts decorating this weekend... ;)
@BaKhan: Don't start stuffing the kiddie goodie bags without me!
Morning kittens.
I really wish people would learn what my job actually is! This morning, I've had questions about ultrasound billing and vaccine ordering...
Wait, LZ, have you ever thought... do YOU really know what your job is? That would explain so much!
Your real job title is actually "Whatever anyone else needs you to be right now".
@Geist, I'm pretty sure she would like the help with the goodie bags so no worries! ;)
Morning kittens!
We do have a few different types of seating from the super comfy plush recliners, to standard seats, to the "d" box rumble seats, some are quite expensive, but its all about the experience I guess. ;)
@BaKhan: I will say one thing, I like the fact that more and more theaters are serving booze to go with your movie. I had a Hurricane at the AMC and it was not only a decent size cup but the booze was good. Landmark charges top price but you get a small cup with even less booze.
@Geist, lol, ;) I'm not surprised... ;) Now if only they could have an herbal refreshment lounge... ;)
I did try to swing it around once, smacked myself in the face and thought, yep, not a country boy... ;)
Pizza pops? Like small bready pizzas on a stick?
Morning kittens.
I don't need money or an intervention, I need an old priest and a young priest to save my bank account! ;)
Man, I wish that Top Commenters page was still up. I wonder how many comments I have; I should have crossed my 10th EKLOL some time ago, but I have no clue when! In fact, if I had to guess, I might possibly even be closer to 11K comments by now.
@GM, my favourite way of having them, now this may sound gross to some, was to cook it, then let if fully cool down to room temperature, then eat them. The sauce and grease from the cheese would soak into the pastry and soften it a little. Man, I want one now... ;)
And I want pizza rolls, but I haven't had any for a few weeks now! Dang it, I just told you I can't trust myself going back to a store!
Another thing about going to the movies on Tuesdays is that there aren't many people there. The theater made me choose a seat but I pretty much had my pick of seat. There were only 2 of us in the whole theater watching IT and K:TGC had a dozen of us.
I think I'm going to like going on Tuesdays.
@Geist: During the school years, the weekdays are great for going to non-crowded movies. During the summer, not so much.
Good point, GM. For me, thursdays aren't quite empty because it's student discount day ($5 plus a small drink and popcorn free!), and Tuesday is $5 movie day for everyone, so I'd imagine it's also a bit more full, but still, yeah, movies on weekdays are great!
LZ, that's kinda what I have to do, though if I were able, I'd go to the theaters all the time. I agree with everything you said, but there's something to be said for the full experience of going to a theater and seeing a great, brand-new movie on a screen larger than some buildings.
True, but I find that sitting 12 feet back from a 170 inch screen is about the same as sitting in the middle of a standard theater. Now, I do still go to the theater for the movies that are exciting enough that I don't want to wait for RedBox. Or if someone else is paying. I go then, too.
Crazy good stove top popcorn in a couple minutes, can't go wrong! ;)
BaKhan, that's what I use to make my popcorn. It's soo good!
@LZ, wow! Great minds do think alike! ;) Who'd a thunk it?
@Geist, its almost like the retailers opened Pandora's box on that one. I don't think we'll ever get them to roll back the launch of a season to a more appropriate time, closer to the actual holiday, sadly. I agree with you, nothing kills the holiday spirit for me more than hearing songs or carols out of season. Best thing a person can do is just avoid those places, till you're ready for them, if you can. ;)
Morning kittens.
Morning GM. What's shakin' bacon?
@Geist: Not much good, lots of bad(people being people).
@GM: Cheer up! It's almost the weekend. I'm looking forward to either chilling or cooking up a casserole for someone who is going to have a baby next week. Might want to visit a museum or two.
Well, I broke down and changed my pledge on a Western RPG from the $20 pdf only to the $50 physical book, because that's how I'll get all the decks.
So... funny thing.
Morning kittens!
Morning BaKhan! Got anything interesting planned for this weekend?
Morning kittens.
Morning GM!
It seems like theres always something awesome going on around you! ;)
I really wanted to go but I'll pick books over booze any day.
https://popupbardc.com/menu
Wow, that popup bar looks pretty cool, Geist!
I dunno, books vs that place... it's a toss-up, that's for sure! But considering you're one of the few people I know who loves books even more than I do, I'd say go all in, no ragrets! All of the books!!!
Well, that new system is coming next Friday. Looks like I'm going back to school....
I don't know why, but I just envisioned that as "Either the machine goes back to school, or I do!"
*smash-cut to the future, you getting your pH.D.*
`
(it's like a Ph.D., but for chemistry.)
My daughter just purchased the iOS version of the game. And she mentioned codes to unlock which would be on my original card deck as well as the expansion pack. However, I can't find either. Any chance you guys can help me out. I also kickstarted Bears vs Babies in case that had a code, which I didn't see either. Thanks.
@contempt, there's a code in the physical party pack. I think another code is HYPERGOAT! The exclamation is part of the code.
