I think they should reduce the shipping fees, its kinda costly for $20 :(
Corneal Pendulum 2015-01-24T06:45:28-05:00
For those commenting about delivery.
In the UK, Royal Mail will do AirMail (without signature/tracking) for roughly 20pounds (for most locations) and it has to be under 2kg. So tbh, EploKitt's is roughly the same with only $15-20.
Carry Crawford replied this earlier, so i'll copy it below.
For everyone suggesting all kinds of stretch goodies, please keep in mind (from someone with a home-based business who does shipping)...
Shipping is expensive. USPS is cheapest if you can send things first class, which means the package (including packaging) has to weigh less than 13 ounces. As soon as it goes above 13 ounces, you have to ship Parcel Select or Priority, which push shipping costs into the $5+ range depending where it's being shipped. International shipping is a BEAR. I always feel for my customers overseas, it's a LOT.
So if they can ship two playing card packs for under 13 ounces, they can keep shipping around $3.50 per for US orders. That's 10% of the price of the two packs we backed. The other 90% go towards cost of production, shipping the thousands and thousands of packs to whomever will be handling the actual shipping (creators or a third company, if third company then THEY get a cut), the cost of actually fulfilling the orders (printing the orders, packing them up, labeling), and whatever is leftover are profits to be split amongst the creators.
Eugene Lim 2015-01-24T06:54:57-05:00
Thanks Anna... ><
Gordon Moar 2015-01-24T07:04:12-05:00
@ Anna
Rather than shipping thousands of discrete packages and paying the USPS premium on each one, they'd be better contracting a EU fulfiller and shipping the lot across on a pallet, then injecting into the national mail systems. This is *far* cheaper when talking about the kinds of volume that must be on their plate now.
Zed 2015-01-24T07:19:13-05:00
I have never seen a project get funded and go above this fast ever, CONGRATS!... not sure what it says about all of us backing a game about cats blowing up... some one needs to do a study on this :P
Dane Panduro-Hansen 2015-01-24T07:28:28-05:00
@anna where in Japan are you me and my friend are in Nagoya
Corneal Pendulum 2015-01-24T07:39:12-05:00
@Gordon Moar Most definitely true, if they made a deal with their postal service as a business company who needs to post packages internationally in bulk they would be given a MUCH cheaper price.
But since they're only going to send several to Asian countries the prices for those countries is understandable...
I don't think ExploKitts have calculated their shipping in this manner. This is probably because they want to make more profit... and tbh it is a bit displeasing that we have to pay postage this early on...
@Dane Panduro-Hansen
Atm styudyin overseas, but since its expected delivery is July, sending it back home in Tokyo. -i've been to Nagoya once/twice when i small. Castle was breathtaking- <3
Tippy Singleton 2015-01-24T07:45:13-05:00
@anna, they only asked for $10,000. they thought 1000 decks would be more than enough. as it is, they are looking at 10 times what they planned. 10 x the shipping discount wouln't have been something they factored in.
Won-Sue Cheng 2015-01-24T07:45:32-05:00
This is such a cute idea, I love it :). I read your FAQ and added $20 on top for the extra deck. Double the Explosions!
An idea for a special something could be a plush kitty that "explodes" when you squeeze it or something to that effect :)
Ollie 'Reach' Denning 2015-01-24T07:50:20-05:00
It needs something to identify it as the kickstarter version of the game so we get to remember being part of this landmark kickstarter campaign
norricle 2015-01-24T08:32:48-05:00
I agree with a lot of these people, kickstarter funded decks should have something to identify them as such! we are part of the whole creation of the project I think it would only be just to reward those who helped contribute and to give them something that will set them apart from just the regular people who will buy it when it is finished. Im not trying to be greedy but I think we all deserve a lil summin summin for the maximum over fund youve got here :D

I backed up the project just at a minimal level for now! I am so excited about this but the shipping rates to India is just making me cry! (20$ pledge = 40$ for shipping?) I really hope this shipping rate gets reduced or I have no chance of getting this. Also have a lot of friends who are willing to buy this game! Hope you guys solve this soon!

Closing in on the next stretch goal, hopefully will make it in a day or two! And this is during the mid-period slowdown!
Next stretch goal is almost certainly going to be 5 million though, we're too close to 4 million for that to be the next target :(
Pha3drus 2015-01-24T10:40:00-05:00
@Derek Thanks! I was only somewhat familiar with the Oatmeal before this KS campaign. I'd read probably 5 or 6 comics over the last 4 years. But I somehow managed to find this KS when it only had 7000 backers! So close to getting one of those early bird collector's decks. And now, I've been researching the Oatmeal, and just really impressed with Matt Inman!

I know that you have been asking for suggestions and comments for stretch goals and I see that all of the $100 and $500 decks have sold already. Perhaps you could consider adding the 15 custom cards into the other decks as a kick starter exclusive.
Kokanee 2015-01-24T11:26:15-05:00

Also what about a "boomerang toenails of doom" attack card?
Cheers from Canada eh!

JGuyan 2015-01-24T12:08:55-05:00
First I'm amazed how fast we are growing, so close to 100k I'm sure will hit it. Second I'd imagine that shipping rates will drop a bit as the large number of orders they will be doing is going to allow for bulk shipping rates.
Lastly how about a KS exclusive holographic card for breaking all the records?

Dave Vernon 2015-01-24T12:46:06-05:00
sorry, got carried away with my last post and mixed a few ideas. OK, so how about an evil Edison card that causes kitty based mayhem, which Tesla can counter with a directed energy weapon that fries Edison from the inside out (plus delivers free catnip for all kittens)?

We going to get some awesome new cards? (I hope so!!)
Jeff Richards 2015-01-24T12:57:55-05:00
@Jack, probably fulfilling 93k and climbing orders. :-) It's tempting to see this as an excess, but it's not. If they've built profits in, then yes, they've got more than that, but there's no excess $3M that's going to be lying around when this is all done.

Just curious.
If we pledge e.g. 50USD, ($35 for NSFW deck + $20 postage) would if be possible, in the future, for them to lower postage (considering they've got soo many orders, bulk delivery & production should be cheaper), and for those who paid delivery to get money back?
Mirimaru 2015-01-24T13:25:46-05:00
I have only pledged one buck by now because 50 $ is to much. You should work on your shipping costs for europe! I think you have tons of customers in europe now, maybe you should try to optimize the shipping stuff next, i think this could help you to sell even more decks ;)

Thewarstore.com 2015-01-24T13:57:45-05:00
$15 shipping overseas is a great price. We ship hundreds of packages overseas every month and that sounds about correct for an item this size.
Pha3drus 2015-01-24T14:02:19-05:00
How much is shipping to Europe $15 or $50? I can't tell from Mirimaru's post... probably $15 +$35 for the game = $50 That's not a bad price at all for shipping.

MadMartigan 2015-01-24T14:13:19-05:00
Yes... Shipping costs are not that much an issue as VAT can be - would be another 15%-20% over here.
And it's simpler to mitigate than travel fees for the creative trio: just get the goods shipped to a warehouse within the EU and then dispatch the packages to the backers from there.

I'm slightly disappointed. I get that you have to print 100k decks, but you will still have a huge profit margin. Considering that, the stretch goal seems really boring. I still back this to get the game, but the sheer amount of money does make me wonder where the majority of that money goes.
Adam Lewis - Erudite Esoterist 2015-01-24T14:52:44-05:00
Shipping can be hugely expensive, especially with different countries having different import taxes. It's a logistical nightmare, as some countries really restrict imports to protect local producers. The rates aren't unreasonable at all, I'd say. Yes, it's a low-costing product, but unless you have a huge distribution network like Amazon you can't easily streamline such things. Especially for an organisation that is essentially three people who expected only 1000 orders initially.
Cal "Blackhawk" Rasmussen 2015-01-24T14:55:31-05:00
Shipping isn't an easy thing to figure out. Cut them some slack. They are doing the best the can. Go read the FAQs on it. They are looking into.
Juan Carlos Silva 2015-01-24T15:20:20-05:00
I have to agree with the mob, asking for $10,000 and you are on track for $4 million and you are doubling the size of the expansion...? I've seen campaigns triple their funding and add colors, accessories, etc. the creative minds that made this game surely can come up with a $3,990,000 idea... If CAH can ship a box of poo for $8 each across the U.S., there must be something you guys can do. Maybe a nice box to put both decks in?
Oliver Foggin 2015-01-24T15:23:46-05:00
I wish people would stop whining. Their initial statement was that they don't want to add too much and not be able to deliver. They want a product that is out on time and delivered.
If you paid at the beginning then you're already getting more than you expected.
I'd rather just have the game in a decent amount of time. The last project I backed (last February) Hello Ruby had a crap ton of stretch goals. It was estimated delivered in August last year. Still we have nothing. Not even an estimate of when it will be ready. The book isn't even finished yet.
Stop with the whining. Please!
Luke Stowell 2015-01-24T15:32:03-05:00

Please be reasonable guys. If they can offer more stretch goals then that's dandy but don't be asking for more than what you pledged.

I am sure you guys have a fair dose of such products so please understand these guys have our best intentions in mind as their name and reputation is on the line.

Please differentiate whining and trying to figure out whether there are cheaper alternatives to the current international delivery fees.
I realise how sending INDIVIDUAL parcels can expensive and a $15-$20 international fee is normal. But companies/ people don't need to be a multi-national gargantuan company like Amazon to get huge discounts when mass delivering. There are delivery companies which are aimed towards business/ bulk deliveries. They're much cheaper.
Plus not all countries have VAT/ import tax on playing cards. Especially not to developed countries. $20 to Japan is reasonable if I'm sending stuff to the Japan, but NOT for people who have the ability to lower the cost. Printing cards no matter how colourful is only costing them a small amount we're paying for. And production per item decreases substantially with every produce ordered/made. They have the ability to subsidise.
All I'm saying is that it'll be nice if they considered this, and have looked into alternatives. This isn't mindless ranting or whining. I'm just questioning the current system, asking for the possibility of a better system.
Colton White 2015-01-24T17:27:07-05:00
I would enjoy the selling of additonal exploding kitten merch. T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. Not necessary as stretch goals, but things I can buy as extras. I realize that adds a lot to the logistics of this.
Adam Lewis - Erudite Esoterist 2015-01-24T17:30:13-05:00
Corneal - and if you read the FAQs at the bottom of the Kickstarter you'd see that they ARE looking at alternatives. But they're being honest with is, they don't want to promise what they may not be able to deliver.
It's true, discounts can be gained, but these orders are going to be a massive logistical nightmare. They'll have the cash in the bank account, but it takes a lot of paperwork, manpower, heavy organising to actually make it happen. For a team of just three people and some contacts, that's not easy.
I'm certain they will do their best, but let's not place unreasonable expectations upon them.
Keith Glass 2015-01-24T17:44:40-05:00
Aussie Jess: the reason NSFW is not common Down Under is for several reasons: the dangerous wildlife, ESPECIALLY the Drop Bears, and, of course, the fact that Australia, as a nation, is ENTIRELY Not Safe For Work, being entirely populated by Criminals. . . (grin)

Congratulations on your successful campaign Exploding Kittens team! CARD IDEA: Literally Sucks Cat! (From your "Literally" comic). Possible Uses:
A. When played each other player must discard X number of cards from their hand.
B. The player plays it as an attack card towards another player of choice. The victim must must discard their whole hand and draw new cards. If an exploding kitten is drawn, they must immediately play a diffuse card or explode. If a diffuse card is played they may resume drawing until they have a full hand again.
Okay, sitting around with my peeps (the humans, not marshmallow, kind) and we realized what an effing fantastic stretch goal would be: A wooden box large enough for up to four decks. As long as you kept it simple you wouldn't kill the fulfillment schedule.
You're welcome. ;-)

Not much more to go! My boyfriend was playing ascension (mobile card game) last night and I said that it would be so cool if EK was like that, then he says "that's a game for dumb people, this is actually complex"... Ouch. So I guess I'll be playing by myself.
K. L. 2015-01-24T20:12:54-05:00
@ashley edwards, yeah, dumb like foxes! Also, I'm sure chess players would say the same thing about Ascension. I've played Coup (from what I've heard it's similar), and while most likely more complex than EK, it still derives most of it's complexity in the bluffing/reading aspect of the game. It's *socially* (or maybe psychologically?) complex but I doubt the actual game mechanics put players in a position to be complexity snobs :)
Drifty Boots 2015-01-24T20:13:25-05:00

I think they should reduce the shipping fees, its kinda costly for $20 :(
For those commenting about delivery.
Thanks Anna... ><
I have never seen a project get funded and go above this fast ever, CONGRATS!... not sure what it says about all of us backing a game about cats blowing up... some one needs to do a study on this :P
@anna where in Japan are you me and my friend are in Nagoya
@Gordon Moar Most definitely true, if they made a deal with their postal service as a business company who needs to post packages internationally in bulk they would be given a MUCH cheaper price.
But since they're only going to send several to Asian countries the prices for those countries is understandable...
I don't think ExploKitts have calculated their shipping in this manner. This is probably because they want to make more profit... and tbh it is a bit displeasing that we have to pay postage this early on...
@Dane Panduro-Hansen
Atm styudyin overseas, but since its expected delivery is July, sending it back home in Tokyo. -i've been to Nagoya once/twice when i small. Castle was breathtaking- <3
@anna, they only asked for $10,000. they thought 1000 decks would be more than enough. as it is, they are looking at 10 times what they planned. 10 x the shipping discount wouln't have been something they factored in.
This is such a cute idea, I love it :). I read your FAQ and added $20 on top for the extra deck. Double the Explosions!
An idea for a special something could be a plush kitty that "explodes" when you squeeze it or something to that effect :)
It needs something to identify it as the kickstarter version of the game so we get to remember being part of this landmark kickstarter campaign
Kickstarter only promo cards ... ?
Guys, the entire NTFS deck is KS exclusive from what it says.
How about a kickstarted exclusive card…. "Kittenstarter" stops you from being exploded?
I agree that it should be Kickstarter exclusive. Would make it special.
the whole NSFW deck contains a whole bunch of kickstarter exclusive cards... all of them
I backed up the project just at a minimal level for now! I am so excited about this but the shipping rates to India is just making me cry! (20$ pledge = 40$ for shipping?) I really hope this shipping rate gets reduced or I have no chance of getting this. Also have a lot of friends who are willing to buy this game! Hope you guys solve this soon!
Meow.... KABOOM!!!
7k moarrrrr!!! xD
Just read about Matt Inman and the Oatmeal. What an amazing story! Awesome entrepreneur. I'm proud to support this project. :-) http://www.wired.com/2013/05/ul_readoatmeal/all/
@Pha3drus Welcome to the party! :)
Closing in on the next stretch goal, hopefully will make it in a day or two! And this is during the mid-period slowdown!
Next stretch goal is almost certainly going to be 5 million though, we're too close to 4 million for that to be the next target :(
@Derek Thanks!
It may be a backer number or even a twitter/social media number as well. This is definitely the hottest product of the year so far.
Can we get a Bartolome de las Casas card just because that guy was awesome?
Just jumped on board this runaway train :-) so that's 1 less to go till the 100k backers :-)
I know that you have been asking for suggestions and comments for stretch goals and I see that all of the $100 and $500 decks have sold already. Perhaps you could consider adding the 15 custom cards into the other decks as a kick starter exclusive.
For your next stretch goal (150k backers?) perhaps a nice case for the cards would be a good idea?
Also what about a "boomerang toenails of doom" attack card?
Cheers from Canada eh!
Please for the love of all things sacred and holy make an attack card involving the mantis shrimp!
Oh please put a chemtrails card in...
I am really hoping for a Tesla card.. ignites all kittens!
I thought you were going to give us a stretch goal challenge.. consider yourself PWN'd.
How about an evil Edison which could cause someone to have to search and take a kitten card, only countered by an awesome Tesla card which supercharges all kittens with a directed energy weapon which fries Edison from the inside out? ZAP!
sorry, got carried away with my last post and mixed a few ideas. OK, so how about an evil Edison card that causes kitty based mayhem, which Tesla can counter with a directed energy weapon that fries Edison from the inside out (plus delivers free catnip for all kittens)?
For all those asking for a Mantis Shrimp card - play the video, pause at 48 seconds, look at the bottom left corner. There it is!
Hey guys (3 days since I signed on, this is mental!!).
Just wondering what you guys are gonna use the excess $3+million on?
We going to get some awesome new cards? (I hope so!!)
@Jack, probably fulfilling 93k and climbing orders. :-) It's tempting to see this as an excess, but it's not. If they've built profits in, then yes, they've got more than that, but there's no excess $3M that's going to be lying around when this is all done.
Seen on Facebook:
"I just replaced the cat litter with 44 packages of pop rocks.
Now we wait."
HAHAHAHA ... pop rock cat litter would make a perfect EK card!
Just curious.
If we pledge e.g. 50USD, ($35 for NSFW deck + $20 postage) would if be possible, in the future, for them to lower postage (considering they've got soo many orders, bulk delivery & production should be cheaper), and for those who paid delivery to get money back?
I have only pledged one buck by now because 50 $ is to much. You should work on your shipping costs for europe! I think you have tons of customers in europe now, maybe you should try to optimize the shipping stuff next, i think this could help you to sell even more decks ;)
I WANT MY FRICKIN FRACKIN FULL NSFW DECK COME ON PEOPLE!!!
Come on guys, stop complaining, 15$ to send anything from the US to europe isn't that much, i spend more to send small packages IN europe...
You know, I really hope that Elan has been back in contact with the printing company to explain that 1000 probably won't be enough anymore (see update #3 for reference).
I just bought two books from the UK. Airmail postage to the USA was $60 -- shipping costs money nowadays.
$15 shipping overseas is a great price. We ship hundreds of packages overseas every month and that sounds about correct for an item this size.
How much is shipping to Europe $15 or $50? I can't tell from Mirimaru's post... probably $15 +$35 for the game = $50 That's not a bad price at all for shipping.
I can't waaaaait! The pig-a-corn is my favorite :D
People seriously need to stop complaining about shipping costs. They are far from unreasonable.
Almost 94k! Woot train is rollin'!
Yes... Shipping costs are not that much an issue as VAT can be - would be another 15%-20% over here.
And it's simpler to mitigate than travel fees for the creative trio: just get the goods shipped to a warehouse within the EU and then dispatch the packages to the backers from there.
I am curious what percentage of the 93K backers signed up just to back this. I did.
They never expected to need that wide of a distribution network. This is one of those cult classics in the making, the designers expected a few thousand orders at most.
94,000!!!
C'mon, fellas! We're so close to getting the stretch goal!
Hey, another day but still the same strech ideas:
PLEASE TRANSLATION!!!!! COME ON we are nearly 100k people we can bring this came in a few languages..... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
ANOTHER PLEASE for lower shipping cost. WOW 3,5mio come on people this is a lot of money!!! You can handle it!
And of course! THE SUPER-CAT CARD witch destroy everybody! Thanks again! :-)
I think is time for you to start thinking of a new stretch challenge, as this one will be completed within 26 I think is time for you to start thinking of a new stretch challenge, as this one will be completed within 26 days, how about adding something special only for backers as in something you aren't putting to shops in same package later, a special KickStarter promo or your signatures on each exploding kitten card?
As in something that makes us happy and motivated to keep sharing this and isn't too hard for you to fullfill (though 10000 signatures might hurt, if you do them by hand)days, how about adding something special only for backers as in something you aren't putting to shops in same package later, a special KickStarter promo or your signatures on each exploding kitten card?

I wish 94000 bakers for kickstarter Conan too...
4K SG... EU friendly and 10$ shipping
5894 left :) to reach the goal!
I'm slightly disappointed. I get that you have to print 100k decks, but you will still have a huge profit margin. Considering that, the stretch goal seems really boring. I still back this to get the game, but the sheer amount of money does make me wonder where the majority of that money goes.
Shipping isn't an easy thing to figure out. Cut them some slack. They are doing the best the can. Go read the FAQs on it. They are looking into.
I wish people would stop whining. Their initial statement was that they don't want to add too much and not be able to deliver. They want a product that is out on time and delivered.
If you paid at the beginning then you're already getting more than you expected.
I'd rather just have the game in a decent amount of time. The last project I backed (last February) Hello Ruby had a crap ton of stretch goals. It was estimated delivered in August last year. Still we have nothing. Not even an estimate of when it will be ready. The book isn't even finished yet.
Stop with the whining. Please!
You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time.
Please be reasonable guys. If they can offer more stretch goals then that's dandy but don't be asking for more than what you pledged.
I prefer to have an on-time, superb quality, and polished product than waiting months upon months for something that's lackluster and pales in comparison. I am sure you guys have a fair dose of such products so please understand these guys have our best intentions in mind as their name and reputation is on the line.
I backed your game and this one also. Swinging jivecat voodoo lounge. Spread the love. BTW, you guys are climbing in the hotness on Bgg. :)
Hmm I think there is time to add some more pledge level with some more stuff...
Trinkets? :-)
two-legged kung-fu master kitten
I think they should add Seperate drinking game instructions!!!
Yes Tobi! NSFW is not a commonly used acronym in Australia. In fact I've never seen or heard it used before. Thank gosh for Google
Less than 6,000 backers to got to hit 100K
You guys are doing GREAT and don't worry about whiney greedy people . I backed a card game, what ever extra we might get is up to YOU !!
And it's way more then 100K sets , I ordered 2 and would show up as A backer. GO KITTY POWER
Fortunately cats do a lot of amusing things, so card ideas should be plentiful. Kittybreading, catloaf, suddenly tearing through the house for no reason, throwing up on everything, trying to kill me whenever I come down the stairs.
Seriously, awesome sounding game, can't wait to play it, it will hold a position of honor next to my ghettoopoly game.
smell sensory receptors hacking with slimey hairball puke
I would enjoy the selling of additonal exploding kitten merch. T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. Not necessary as stretch goals, but things I can buy as extras. I realize that adds a lot to the logistics of this.
Aussie Jess: the reason NSFW is not common Down Under is for several reasons: the dangerous wildlife, ESPECIALLY the Drop Bears, and, of course, the fact that Australia, as a nation, is ENTIRELY Not Safe For Work, being entirely populated by Criminals. . . (grin)
What we should worry about is hitting 100k backers today to get the full nsfw deck. :)
The Red Velvet Mite jizzing all over....something (maybe everything) in the NSFW would be amazing, assuming they could find a way to incorporate it in a way that goes with the theme of the game.
be cool to hit $4mil at the same time as 10,000 backers
im sure what they manage to save on bulk postage they will pour back into giving the cards more pep. or somthing else for the backers.
Well 140,000 and we move in to #9 most funded !!!!!
Maybe if you hit 5mil, create an online version that all backers can login and play with everyone else. 8 player card game? Pfffft, make that 800.
Guys...five days in, top ten ever funded! And could yet go higher!
95000 backers!
Please please please offer a T-shirt reward!!! These cats look awesome!!! :-D
I think there should be a Kickstarter card. Distract the kitten with the biggest kickstarter ever. Or use kickstarter to fund effort to force other players to draw 2 cards. Or kitten accidently funds kickstarter to end the world.
Oh man, please let this kickstarter continue raising $1 million a day...
For all of you that want t-shirts... http://shop.theoatmeal.com/products/murder-cat-shirt
@ashley: too many people understand the fun of simple games. Kittens in a Blender, for example. Sounds like he's afraid he might like it lol
I meant underestimate
