Consider the place where the creators (Elan, Matthew, and Shane) had planned this with a likely production run of 1000 decks.
Now, we're looking at the prospect of over having to produce, pack, and ship 100.000 decks or more.
Chances are, they're going crazy trying to work the logistics of this.
Give them some room to breathe, folks. . . they'll deliver, as long as we stay out of their way and let them concentrate on producing this.
And, unlike potato salad, these won't spoil. . . (grin)

Where as Conan and Tiny Epic Galaxy are totally all about exciting stretch goals, that have motivated the backers all the way through. Its about perceived value, in my opinion! And Exploding Kittens has immense value! (Of course, updates and feedback from the creators/designers is always amazing too). So we have amazing and amazing. How's my logic!? lol

Not sure how we should track this "most funded" parameter. At 38,000% funded it's already the most funded kickstarter I can find by a pretty fair margin. Granted, others have made more money in real dollars, but they were looking for more to begin with and they were suggesting and offering rewards for higher dollar amounts. I have to say, based on those parameters I would be willing to accept that this is already the most funded kickstarter ever.

I was looking at the quantities that these guys are going to have to deal with and I came to a frightening realization:
94 g per 52 cards, add 6g for the package for easy math.
100 grams per deck of cards.
7016 single pack backers = 7,016 packs, 701.6 kg
89672 double pack backers = 179,344 packs, 17,934.4 kg
205 backers that get 4 packs = 820 packs, 82 kg
18,718 kg or 41,179.6 pounds of cards.
... That is 3 african elephants...
Or
Roughly 18,000 12 week old kittens

@Ben hahaha I like your shiny card idea! I think they should be super rare. Maybe 1/5000~ A shiny creators-character card would be brilliant. Elan/Shane/ Oatmeal would each have different super powers etcetc!
But not now~ if they can deliver everything they've promised on time, I'm happy. I don't want some shiny cards delaying delivery until end of this year or smthing.
Tyson Senway 2015-01-25T17:43:43-05:00

What about the THIRD DECK? For extra money, of course. Something exceptionaly crazy (even for Oatmeal standards).
"Göttingetten” 2015-01-25T18:06:46-05:00
Having looked over the section on How Taxes Work on Kickstarter I can pretty much guarantee that no one on the Exploding Kitten Team wants this project to overrun into next year. Let’s be thankful for the generous goodies we are already getting and not ask for more SG. Also as for where the money goes Kickstarter takes a 5% fee off the top plus 3-5% for the people who provide the payment process, so 8 to 10% is already gone when the fundraiser is over. Even when you have a nice big pot at the beginning the money goes fast.

jason tyrone 2015-01-25T19:36:43-05:00
Yes the Japanese Honeybees should be a part of the game. Make it so that in order to use the Japanese honeybee card every player needs to have one and together as a group they use it to save the player from the exploding kitten.
Eric 'Tchotchke' Aschner 2015-01-25T19:47:13-05:00
It's not a group goal game, you want other players to get eliminated. Why are there so many ideas of cards to save another player, bring back another player, etc? Let 'em die, win the game! If I draw a card that can save someone else, there's no way I'd use it.
It's not that I'm overly competitive, it's just the point of the game.
Keenan Richard 2015-01-25T20:01:31-05:00
No save player cards. Kittens tend to themselves. Didn't you know that? They're selfish bastards
In really liking (sarcasm) how all these other folks are trying to get their own project funded by posting links to their own KS projects.
I fundamentally refuse to view, let one sponsor, a project that does that.
Ellen Schoener 2015-01-25T21:43:50-05:00
Lucas- I think they are just backers who want to share other cool projects they are backing...
Hey, even Elan Lee has already shared some projects he is backing on here.
In my opinion this is actually great, because this is my first Kickstarter campaign ever and I did not even know about any of the other cool projects.
But you are right, if the project leaders would come here just to blatantly advertise, I would
refuse them, too. But so far this has not happened yet....
Cal "Blackhawk" Rasmussen 2015-01-25T21:44:05-05:00
@Lucas I've thought the use thing. I have projects I'd like to share with my fellow backers, but I don't.
K Wirick 2015-01-25T21:45:28-05:00
@lucas just trying to get the word out man... not every creator has the built in fan base of The Oatmeal, and it may pique someones interest.
Full disclosure, i'm just a backer.. not my project. and its already funded 300%...
Ellen Schoener 2015-01-25T21:46:53-05:00
You know what would be really awesome?
To see a game play video of Exploding Kittens in action.
I am sure the hilarity would even convince some people who are still on the line to back this.
Wes Ewing 2015-01-25T21:47:19-05:00
This isn't my project (just for clarification), and I know it wouldn't be economically feasible for this project... BUT wouldn't it be awesome to have a high end deck made on these beauties??

1764 backers to go. Time to rally the troops.
BruceP - The Chameleon 2015-01-25T21:59:27-05:00
For those talking about people posting other projects in here, it's sort of against Kickstarter's rules to post about other projects if you're not the creator. It would suck to get your account suspended/removed if too many people complained.
Andre "Silver Ninjatten" Bernier 2015-01-25T22:11:46-05:00
I think one option that should be explored is to be able to include other The Oatmeal items to be shipped with our cards. It would be a great way to increase funding to this kickstarter and a way to offer some SG rewards. Even a coupon or some other redeemable offer for The Oatmeal store would be a good way to reward backers.
Eric 'Tchotchke' Aschner 2015-01-25T22:12:51-05:00
Coupon may work. Doubt they'd be able to combine shipping though, because they'll most likely have to use a fulfilment partner.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2015-01-25T22:15:59-05:00
I think the best way to show appreciation to backers is to ship the pledges in the time frame they've listed. I personally don't want anything to slow this down. So no posters, no key chains, etc. All I want is what I've pledged for, in a reasonable time.
Andre "Silver Ninjatten" Bernier 2015-01-25T22:18:05-05:00
Im not saying as part of the kickstarter shipments but at a later fulfillment date but with payment being made as part of this kickstarter.

K Wirick 2015-01-25T23:23:49-05:00
@criswell actually.. it doesn't say that. The closest it comes is don't "promote [sic] a project where it shouldn’t be promoted." But there is no definition of where an incorrect location might be. Seeing as this is a conversation on card gaming i thought some would be interested.
so first... please first read what youre telling people they should be reading..
and second... im sorry if i ruffled any feathers, just thought one gaming community might enjoy a project by another. my fault. no harm, no foul.
Have a great night!
Pha3drus 2015-01-25T23:26:01-05:00
Btw, Matthew Inman has some cool sneak peeks of some cards for Exploding Kittens on his Twitter account... Worth checking out! ;-o
I personally don't think that its kosher to hot link one campaign inside the chat box of another campaign.
Pha3drus 2015-01-25T23:28:52-05:00
As long as it doesn't happen to often, I don't see its overly annoying.. within 1 or 2 hours the comment has basically disappeared. The tone of the link is pretty important, though... do they care to connect the KS project to this one at all? Also, are they truly a backer? or did they just quickly back the project to make an announcement... All these things are important.
William Yin 2015-01-25T23:32:17-05:00
$98500... so close!
Tim A 2015-01-25T23:33:12-05:00
i think if people keep giving gentle reminders that it might not be a classy move to promote a project in another project, then it will keep it from devolving into a stream of link spam.
Pha3drus 2015-01-25T23:33:43-05:00
For example, my avatar is actually an image to Tiny Epic Galaxy. Every time I post it comes up, but its subtle so its considered respectful and considerate. I think that's the most important thing. But just my opinion, of course. Others might be bothered by any links at all from other KS projects.
Krissy Olson 2015-01-25T23:35:02-05:00
I get it guys and gals thanks. Idk you physically typed in the number line to add. I'm so dumb. Thanks!
Bobby Allen 2015-01-25T23:56:18-05:00
I agree that cross pollination is not permitted. I have discovered some very interesting projects that way. Call it an exploit, call it marketing (KS does 0 marketing for you). Take this project for example with its going on 100k backers. A percentage of those might be interested in another project if they knew it existed. You could be direct (which is against the rules ) and post since you like this game you would also enjoy (direct link to another game). or you could be a bit more subtle and comment that the kittens that did not explode grew up to become Swinging Jivecats in the Voodoo lounge. This statement is relevant to this project yet gives hints to another without a direct link. If any of the going on 90k folks are intrigued by this subtle mention they can search for it themselves. KS does 0 marketing for any project. If a fan of multiple projects wants to share... What is the harm? To post a comment you have to have backed this project. Maybe KS could flag the $1.00 backers. So lets say you back a project for a $1.00 to get the rights to post comments. The rest of the backers will quickly understand this and your best flame shield would not help.
KS is a crowd platform. Let the crowd speak.
There is a big difference in a person who backs for a buck so they can post a link to their project and the person in for the max amount who really wants the fruits of this project.
Rather than banning cross postings, require sufficient commencement in this one and relevance to cross post.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2015-01-26T00:09:36-05:00
@Bobby, lol! I see what you did there!
Andre "Silver Ninjatten" Bernier 2015-01-26T00:17:09-05:00
If kickstarter really cared they could just not allow $1 backers to post links.
Either way I enjoy seeing other projects linked as longs as they can be related back to the main project somehow.
It's like 6 degrees of Kickstarter staring Kevin Bacon.
I am perfectly okay with someone saying that they backed or really liked another campaign without directly linking to said campaign.
This way I am not spammed with links and yet if the campaign does intrigue me then I will search for it and check it out for myself.
Take LightBox Photography Cards for example, I liked the idea so much that I backed it with $168 of my hard earned money. now I am not going to link it on here, but if your intrigued then I bet you will have no problem searching for it yourself.
Andre "Silver Ninjatten" Bernier 2015-01-26T00:21:42-05:00
I dislike reading things without links and then having to search for them. I would much rather have the convenience of links... isn't that what the internet is for?
Paul Gardosik 2015-01-26T01:00:27-05:00
I got an idea for an add-on; how about a nice box, maybe wood or whatever, that can hold both regular and NSFW decks? and maybe space for future expansions?
Also, this is the first kickstarter I've backed, woo!

As I have done a bit of research, it seems to me that these 3 are just too busy atm to findout about what they can offer with strech goals/international post. Elan Lee logged in kickstarter last time on 24th... both him and oatmeal guy are constantly posting in twitter/facebook and as this went much higher than expected they probably have to redo some research about printing etc. from Elan's twitter you can see that game has been play tested so propably they are trying to get much asked gameplay video done. On top of this, ot of other stuff might be happening on their lives, and randomly hiring someone to do their social media work isn't a decision made in hurry. Also sorry for ppssibly confusing post, could have been better organized.
tl;dr, chill out with asking more, I'm sure they will try to answer us and do their best to keep their customers happy

I love all the love this project is getting. I'd love to see just a fraction of that love spread over to Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/damefortunagames/swinging-jivecat-voodoo-lounge ), which is a phenomenal game, with years of test play behind it, and a super great art style.

Maybe a dupliCATion card the splits the deal deck into 2. Now which one do you draw from? Which one has the exploding kittens. Hahaha
Can u make some shiny cards as a stretchgoal? Like the rares of a boosterpack? =)
Just because I asked you more times on differents support to translate this game in french and you take time to answer on each of my message I buy one in english :)
42,000 lbs of cards = 18,000 12 week old kittens = 1,800 Hairy Boob Dragons!!!! Run for your lives!!!
How exciting! I went for 35 pledge for both decks so I can play with 8 people. This will be a great addition to game night. Awesome work! We will for sure hit 100k backers!
What about the THIRD DECK? For extra money, of course. Something exceptionaly crazy (even for Oatmeal standards).
Surely by this scale you can negotiate cheaper shipping?
come on backers we are almost there 2k more and we get more kitty bombs
I know we're going to get Tesla and the mantis shrimp. I've said it once but I'm going to keep saying it... Japanese Honeybees!!! That was an awesome comic.
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/bees_vs_hornets
Come on guys...It's elan's birthday tomorrow...let's get him a 100k present...
Yes the Japanese Honeybees should be a part of the game. Make it so that in order to use the Japanese honeybee card every player needs to have one and together as a group they use it to save the player from the exploding kitten.
Share the project guys! Best way is to first: like it on Facebook. EVERYONE should do that! https://www.facebook.com/explodingkittens Like the The Oatmeal on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theoatmeal NEXT, follow Matthew Inman on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Oatmeal AND post about Exploding Kittens on both Twitter and Facebook. Third! Any ideas??
It's not a group goal game, you want other players to get eliminated. Why are there so many ideas of cards to save another player, bring back another player, etc? Let 'em die, win the game! If I draw a card that can save someone else, there's no way I'd use it.
It's not that I'm overly competitive, it's just the point of the game.
No save player cards. Kittens tend to themselves. Didn't you know that? They're selfish bastards
2000 backers to go!!
If you like Sci-Fi and card games, please check out Nova Cry!

We would love to see a few more stretch goals hit!!
PRAISE JIBBERS!!!
Seriously, Jibbers better be all over this game!
In really liking (sarcasm) how all these other folks are trying to get their own project funded by posting links to their own KS projects.
I fundamentally refuse to view, let one sponsor, a project that does that.
@Lucas I've thought the use thing. I have projects I'd like to share with my fellow backers, but I don't.
@lucas just trying to get the word out man... not every creator has the built in fan base of The Oatmeal, and it may pique someones interest.
Full disclosure, i'm just a backer.. not my project. and its already funded 300%...
You know what would be really awesome?
To see a game play video of Exploding Kittens in action.
I am sure the hilarity would even convince some people who are still on the line to back this.
This isn't my project (just for clarification), and I know it wouldn't be economically feasible for this project... BUT wouldn't it be awesome to have a high end deck made on these beauties??

1764 backers to go. Time to rally the troops.
For those talking about people posting other projects in here, it's sort of against Kickstarter's rules to post about other projects if you're not the creator. It would suck to get your account suspended/removed if too many people complained.
Coupon may work. Doubt they'd be able to combine shipping though, because they'll most likely have to use a fulfilment partner.
I think the best way to show appreciation to backers is to ship the pledges in the time frame they've listed. I personally don't want anything to slow this down. So no posters, no key chains, etc. All I want is what I've pledged for, in a reasonable time.
Im not saying as part of the kickstarter shipments but at a later fulfillment date but with payment being made as part of this kickstarter.
So happy this exists. Enjoy theoatmeal.com so much. its perfect! thank you for making this exist.
New Stretch goals!!
New Stretch GOATS!
New goats stretching, ewe must be kidding!
1,640 backers to go! Let's do this people!
We'll get it tomorrow or really early the day after
It's happening tomorrow people! Prepare your goats!
Nude stretch goats?
Farmers lock up your goats!
I may be a bit late with this, but... new card suggestion:
Dread Cat-hulhu; Awakens from his slumber, rends the fabric of reality.
Just a reminder - it is considered against KickStarter rules to post about another KickStarter project unless it's the project creator doing it. See where it says "Be respectful and considerate."? Click it, read it, follow it.
Idea for card: Plastic trashbags. My cats go apeshit when I shake out a new bag and put it in the trash can.
Btw, Matthew Inman has some cool sneak peeks of some cards for Exploding Kittens on his Twitter account... Worth checking out! ;-o
I personally don't think that its kosher to hot link one campaign inside the chat box of another campaign.
$98500... so close!
i think if people keep giving gentle reminders that it might not be a classy move to promote a project in another project, then it will keep it from devolving into a stream of link spam.
For example, my avatar is actually an image to Tiny Epic Galaxy. Every time I post it comes up, but its subtle so its considered respectful and considerate. I think that's the most important thing. But just my opinion, of course. Others might be bothered by any links at all from other KS projects.
I get it guys and gals thanks. Idk you physically typed in the number line to add. I'm so dumb. Thanks!
@Bobby, lol! I see what you did there!
If kickstarter really cared they could just not allow $1 backers to post links.
Either way I enjoy seeing other projects linked as longs as they can be related back to the main project somehow.
It's like 6 degrees of Kickstarter staring Kevin Bacon.
Nice one Bobby,
I am perfectly okay with someone saying that they backed or really liked another campaign without directly linking to said campaign.
I dislike reading things without links and then having to search for them. I would much rather have the convenience of links... isn't that what the internet is for?
I got an idea for an add-on; how about a nice box, maybe wood or whatever, that can hold both regular and NSFW decks? and maybe space for future expansions?
Also, this is the first kickstarter I've backed, woo!
100k looks like it will be tomorrow morning!
Will there be an app for this?
Its so fitting this kickstarter should be ridiculously successful.
well im off to sleep I will check this again at 5:30 am PST
If they're going foe the biggest they still got beat reading rainbow's 105k
I see they still haven't added decent stretch goals.......... almost $4 million and 2 stretch goals is just daft.
Wanted in on deck of legends... My genius idea:
Tub-Cat (think TubGirl)
Lemon Cat (think Lemon Party)
and... Goat Cat (think Goatsee)
;)
I think they had no idea this project will be such a hit.. :D
@Josh I've got this feeling 106k will be the next stretch...
I think a lot of people are overestimating how much this project will get to.
Tbh I have a feeling that it will only just get to 4million. Maybe by the end of the funding.
The rate of backers coming in is slowing down a lot. There were 200 backers over the past 5 hours (looking at the comments).
Not because it's not popular but because it is natural for the to happen. Look at the curve in kicktraq. It's almost flat now.
