Not weird at all. Biggest items are how long it takes KS to turn over the funds and the funds to clear along with what the final print run of each deck type is. I suspect they are busy working out the logistics.

There is always a number of backers who don't cough up their pledges at the end. I have heard this can upwards of 10% of the backers but is typically 2-3%.

This project exploded much more than they ever expected. There's a lot more work than waving a wand and being able to predict output, production, etc when it's recieved as many backers as it has.

I have seen many kickstarters where the creator did both. Come up with a stretch goal and still talked to backs on the comment section. This is seriously the lest amount of creator comments I have seen during a project campaign. But I guess when you have such success, who cares about respecting the people putting up the funds.

I also do not think that shipping is the limiting factor. However, the production run is.
Even if we are talking economics of scale here, making each item a bit cheaper, any bells and whistles they add increase the production time.
It is also hard to come up with good ideas that a) do not increase production time and b) do not diminish the value earlier backers got (by deluting the value of the higher tier pieces.
I for one would be content to get what I bargained for. If it actually gets cheaper (shipping) or more valuable thats fine for me and a nice bonus.

If 10% of the backers are outside the US it could quickly run several hundred thousand dollars just on postage. Most recent project have wait until before shipping to collect addresses and the postage costs. The postage costs can go up quite a bit within a couple of months.

It is critical because right now, they are setting the expectation that the delivery date is July 2015, this expectation needs to be managed in some fashion. It is clear they will over shoot it (but still not impossible to meet it).
