I have to say that I am a bit pissed on how the achievement rules have been handled. The ideas tehre are great but letting this thing fly and after a day setting up rules that invalidate legit phots 8I am aware those would be the minority, but still) is kinda frustrating thing to do.
No question that there have to be some means to be able to sort out forgery and plagiarism, but the rules for that should have been set up from the beginning.
For now I am taking myself out of the loop and decided not to care about any SG anymore as they seem to be a shifting target.
Ben Cooper 2015-02-05T02:57:02-05:00
Idea for 'Cat Ears'. Have someone take a close up selfie wearing cat ears with #Update9 in the picture, next person downloads the first picture and makes it full screen on a monitor and takes a selfie wearing cat ears with another #update9 plus the last picture taken in view. Picture in picture in picture... That would follows the rules right? Would make for a crazy picture.

Sorry if this comes across as ungrateful, but I have to say I think these stretch goals are a bit underwhelming and frankly a bit cheeky. Other kickstarters have given far, far, far better stretch goals for far, far, far lower targets. Boardgames have upgraded cardboard coins to metal, and plastic miniatures to pre-painted and larger, better quality miniatures etc.
I mean come on, there is no stretch goal reward for 'most backed campaign ever'... but it's more like "we want the most backed campaign in the history of kickstarter plus a whole ton of other tasks, basically do whatever we tell you for the next 14 days". Do they want our kidneys too? It comes across as a bit greedy.
I personally think that with the amount of support this campaign has had, we should have earned a decent quality box already. People overseas are already paying $50 for two decks of cards. (Remember the NSFW deck was originally only going to be 20 cards, yet it cost nearly double what the first deck cost on its own). The stretch goal of making it a full deck just made the high cost a little more worthwhile.
Couldn't we be working towards a more substantial stretch goal like better quality cards, having already earned 'a hinged-lid cardboard box.'
Instead it seems like they already have it all, and now they want more. And we're really working towards an unspecified 'surprise' that they probably haven't even thought of yet.
I really hope the 'surprise' is actually worth it, because IMO, apart from the NSFW deck being improved to actually being worth the price we were originally having to pay for it, every single other stretch goal has been... frankly... a bit stingey.
GIVE US A DECENT STRETCH GOAL PLEEEEASE!

Maybe a 'custom box of EK tissues' for the SG whiners?
Mike Kabala 2015-02-05T09:50:29-05:00
@Matthew, You make some valid points, but KickStarter creators are not required to even have stretch goals, which are usually intended to encourage reaching a certain amount of funding to enable further expansion of the project. Since this project has far outstripped the original 1000 deck estimate, I think the @Creator is entitled to a little frivolity. I think it's a lot of fun.
Matthew Brewster 2015-02-05T09:51:14-05:00
I understand that argument Luca, but boardgames cost WAY more to produce and have smaller margins as a result, and various boardgame campaigns have managed to come up with some truly amazing goals, which truly reward their fans in unique ways for helping them produce their games.
I imagine the margins on two packs of cards at $35 a pop are pretty decent from the start.
Frankly, there's been too much lulz already and too little... well. Hope it's worth it.
I've done my part. Oh God, 2 more weeks...
Crrrazy.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-02-05T09:53:03-05:00
It's a deck of cards, they have already stated they are working on lowering shipping costs, and are looking at quality. Really, what exactly can they add to a deck of cards to make it "more awesome"? It's just 50 odd pieces of cardstock material, in a package. They offered it at a price, we bought into it (or didn't) and now we're having fun with it. (and get off my lawn, you darn kids!)
Nicole 2015-02-05T09:53:39-05:00
I think the achievements are hilarious and work to bringing a community together. They know we'll get it done in 2 weeks easy, so why not have a little fun while we wait for the deadline.
@Matthew: You're also missing the point in a way though. KS is not about SGs, it's about backing a project. There is no need for SGs, they just help to provide incentive. With or withou SG it's up to you whether or not you want to help bring a product into the world. This is the beginning of something NEW. This game, for all intents and purposes, does not actually exist yet. Do you want it to become [a thing]? Then back it. If not, then don't. It's really that simple.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-02-05T09:54:40-05:00
Yeah, if they announced some kind of magical upgrade, all we'd hear about is how we need MORE upgrades. You either back this, or don't, they don't care at this point; but the backers do.
@Nicole: Exactly! I love the way they did it, and it shows they put a lot of time and effort into making it awesome. I was starting to get frustrated about their SGs simply because they said there were going to be some and were taking forever to post them, but I couldn't be happier with them.
Matthew Brewster 2015-02-05T09:59:52-05:00
@Mr. PACG - Ha Ha
@Mike Kabala - Good point. Most of us will probably agree that we'd still be buying this even with no stretch goals.
BUT as a result of the stretch goals they are getting way more publicity and advertising out of our efforts. This is in turn earning them more money and profit than would have happened without dedicated fans spreading the word. Shouldn't this kind of dedication be rewarded?
I can imagine if the project reached close to $10,000,000... the post would be something like "Make us the highest earning Kickstarter ever, and we will oh... i don't know... erm... give you all a lollipop." :-)
This one maybe fits the time of night better :)

Crrrazy.
Yeah, if they announced some kind of magical upgrade, all we'd hear about is how we need MORE upgrades. You either back this, or don't, they don't care at this point; but the backers do.
@Cheetahbutt: I missed your post, that was well said.
@Nicole: Exactly! I love the way they did it, and it shows they put a lot of time and effort into making it awesome. I was starting to get frustrated about their SGs simply because they said there were going to be some and were taking forever to post them, but I couldn't be happier with them.
@Mr. PACG - Ha Ha
We're getting lollipops??? Happy day!
What I like is that most of the achievements have no bearing on how many more backers are gained.
Post some funny pictures of your cat in a taco shell, or using your cat as a beard and win a prize.
It's fun and it will keep people entertained for the next couple of weeks. Great strategy.
You forgot "add postfactum rules if all qoes too quickly"
