A little warmer than Seattle...
Okay, I won't lie, I only spent a week there at the peak of summer a couple of years ago, but I was hard-pressed to think of a better climate. Yes, even with the rain and *cool* temps during the rest of the year. I was strolling around in the height of July totally comfy in a t-shirt and jeans, and would *likely* only have to put on a thick sweatshirt/light coat at the worst of "winter."
Meanwhile, here in DC, we get heat indexes of 110+ on the regular in the summer and SAW wind chills of *-15* last year, and are expecting wind chills of -5 to -10 this weekend, with actual air temp highs in the upper 90's and actual air temperature lows in the low single digits. I CRAVE your moderate temperatures. :) (though not your hills...why so many hills? I need to walk FAST and that requires largely flat terrain)

I have a couple of friends from Seattle, and when I told them I was visiting at the height of summer, they actually told me that was a bad idea. "Why is that a bad idea?" I asked, "I've heard that summer in Seattle is quite lovely." "That's the problem," they said, "you will love Seattle, in general, and if you visit during the summer, you might never come home."
Two days into my trip, I called one of those friends and said "fine, you were right, I never want to come home."

One of the more interesting Summers I had was in Amsterdam. Weather can be interestingly variable, ranging from 60 - 80 degrees in the Fieryheat scale, sprinkly to dry. One of the interesting efects of living near the sea, is the effect the water has on the sunsets, causing backscatter of sunlight off the ocean back to the underside of the clouds, creating a glowy, fiery effect. I guess that effect is fairly common-place, though my experience of it is limited, having been mainly land-bound elsewhere, apart from living along the California coast.

However, despite all it's faults...despite it's schizophrenic weather and s****y Metro and clueless tourists and political bloviators and extreme over-abundance of overachievers stuck on status...I'm not sure I could *live* anywhere else. Every morning, as I stand on the Metro platform, I can see the Capitol dome and peak of the Washington Monument. I used to live on the Hill (back when average people could afford that), and walked home from work. I passed the north side of the Capitol around 6 PM, and there's a bell tower that plays The Star Spangled Banner in bells at 6 PM (and I'm sure other times) each day. Walking by the Capitol, hearing the SSB in bells? Holy America! I walked by the Capitol on the night Ted Kennedy died and saw the flags flying at half-mast for him, within hours of his death. I've walked past millions of marches for any number of things, of all political stripes, and seen Presidents drive by more times than I can count (my office is downtown). For all its faults, this is a special place...

I don't understand why the person who took the photo of fifty people in cat ears doesn't just double the size of the canvas and drop the same photo next to itself.
