@DDD, seriously? The quality of his typography is equal to the quality of his woodworking ... and the quality of his photography. He probably chise the script face to make it look more "elite."

Idle - i was just saying that eastern brooklyn is super Russian and they probably DO have a lot of import stores. It's honestly hard to walk around in some of those neighborhoods and see anything in English. But everything else... *shrugs*
Well this move just went to shit. Can't have my desk the way I want because "fire code". Need desks to be 36" away from the walls...yet 90% of the offices they are less than 3" from the wall.

Well, there's nothing rare about oak. At all. Cherry, plum, and mahogany aren't particularly uncommon, either. You just have to be willing to pay
so-so, Potatten. Surgical instruments for this cake are turning out well, but as far as another cake quote- i'm so tired of people haggling on price. I charge average/below average for these things. It's so frustrating.
IT's ridiculous that people expect you to put in work and not charge what you're due for it. It has also been snowing here since around 5:30, which is as early as I was conscience enough to note it.
These are always people that have good day jobs, too. Sometimes if they question it, I say - "Some cakes take two full days to work on... even more. Many times spent up all night working on details. How much do you get paid for two or three days work? Then add materials, overhead, and the cost of hiring someone who's trained in the field." That usually helps, but not always.
@Potatten: Mine was going good...then I was told I couldn't have my new desk the way I wanted because the VP of HR said no. Personally, having my desk so I am facing the door into the room, rather than my back to the door, would be 9000% better.
Time to go for lunch, with others around the office. Back later...if I even need to be back today. There is still nothing to do, and I've been in the office for 3.5hours already.
Mike Kabala 2015-03-20T13:25:26-04:00
Thanks for the clarification DrP. I was thinking either problems with plugboard computing or difficulty getting a toddler dressed for the day.
Facing the door is also Korea professional. Also if it is your office why does the HR director get a say. You HR rep is dumb for suggesting the opposite of what they should. The very nature of it opens you up to others as well as gives claim over the room without adding intimidation.

I think the real reason his project was suspended is because his script typeface was not ptoperly kerned.
oh yay!!! I can cook again! Gas is turned back on! And- and- I held my ground with my price on the cake. Feeling proud of myself. I have remember some advice I was told when I first started this "You want people to say 'no' sometimes. It means you're charging fairly and not under-pricing yourself. If everyone came to you and said yes- that means you're the cheapest one out there."
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:22:12-04:00

Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:23:44-04:00
As a wood worker, CB, you can understand how awful his dice were, and how crooked his campaign was. For a thousand bucks, I could make a lot more than two dice for $25.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:24:31-04:00
Of course, I make "Fairy Doors" for friends and charge nothing, so I am not the best gauge of price comparison shopping.
You're probably fine since you can chat now GCoD. Before they were obligated to investigate you too because they hadn't actually looked at the issue to see which side was full of shit. This time they knew before hand.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-20T14:26:17-04:00
Well, that was a fun lunch(8 of us went, and I was the only guy). The talk was...interesting. Never realized the one girl has tattooed on eyebrows.
@Potatten: I also would prefer to have it so I'm facing the door because dealing with payroll, there is TONS of confidential information that people could now possibly see when they walk/sneak up behind me. Yes there would be a window behind me, but there are no windows on the building outside it that can look into my office, and those that can, the blinds will be down enough so they can't anyways(sun shines in that window in the mornings)
It's still funny to me that he did everything in his power (at first) to make sure his ripped off photos were hard to find, but he still used that picture of the priest (cropped) and his name from last time. You can still go and look at the Lix KS, it's just suspended. Maybe he'll marry into some big time dice money.
@GM: In that case you could totally just get a blind.... which you should have in the first place if you have a window. That makes the "sneak up on employees" angle even less satisfactory.
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-20T14:32:05-04:00
Hello Kittens!
Mike Kabala 2015-03-20T14:32:05-04:00
@GCoD, If I were to offer wooden dice on KickStarter, I would probably charge more than $25 for two of them, especially since I would probably do the pips by hand with a pin vice. More like $40 for a pair in exotic wood (rosewood, ebony, padauk) and charge the backer for shipping based on their location. They would be worth every penny too.
@Potatten - I know. even if, let's just say.. he really was going to make these dice and run a legit campaign... wouldn't you at least change your profile picture? I find it all very confusing.
I can't believe snow is accumulating. it's... it's just there. mocking me. "hahaha... you thought you were going to work on your backyard?"
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-20T14:33:14-04:00
It would be funny if he's at the store right now, getting polyurethane and mahogany
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-20T14:34:13-04:00
@Creeper: It's snowing here too. And is it bad I'm not actually doing any work? There literally is nothing for me to do, until my desk is set up...and even then IT has to come in and get the computer set up.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:36:43-04:00
@LZ, he posted a picture of the lacquer he was using ... it is a Cyrillic labeled bottle ... where do you find that in New York City?
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-20T14:37:07-04:00
It's kinda funny that though there are the most entries from the USA they also have the highest ratio of problematic entries like missing tweets or locations.
GM - all the better to stay here and keep us company! enjoy the boring day.. .you've been stressed out of your mind the past two weeks. :)
GenC- Thanks!! I've been MIA from the #kittenconsul these past two days.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:38:05-04:00
@Creeper, "Fairly Doors" are small (say 5 to 6 inch tall) doors that you install on an out of the way baseboard ... decorated to suit the whimsy of the occupant, and they allow fairies to come and go in your house. They form a network of linked doors with other fairy doors.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-20T14:38:28-04:00
GCoD, Creeper tells us that there are a lot of Russian stores in Brooklyn. Either way, I told him I wanted polyurethane, and that shoukd be available in Russia
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-20T14:39:38-04:00
For the quality of dice Szklorz had shown us, $25 was way too much. Ten was too much.
@Creeper: I'm just annoyed with the desk situation now. Though, lunch today kind of made up for it. Got to enjoy some Vietnamese food, and sit between two attractive women.
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-20T14:41:46-04:00

So... how da kuf does Mr. I love to create creative things find rare wood and Russian lacquer in Brooklyn?
Plus his die needs to die.
Apparently, he doesn't find rare wood. As for the Russian lacquer, he could go to a Russian imports store
Also, I'm not condoning the font choice on either. Or the embossed effects. But at least is not Comic Sans or Papyrus.
