My playtest is over, shop closed 30mins ago. I had like 20 people all together, 1 who came outside the city just to try this. Some people I expected didnt shop up. Some poeple loved it, others hard core board gamers found it a bit too simple. I gave 1 deck away for the shop so people can keep playing it during mondays board game nights. Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-04-11T09:55:40-04:00
Yes, I played quite a lot often with new players that arrived on random time. Did you already receive the new rules at e-mail? In beginning 1 table didnt enjoy their game as they tried to play onöy with those rules
Powers of Tesla 2015-04-11T10:02:39-04:00
@Juha. Yep, got the rules yesterday, I've printed out five sets, one for each table and one to post on a wall or something.
I feel like the biggest difference in the rules is that you can read these, the print on the included rules was so small that in dim light I saw people having difficulty reading it. I really only noted two changes to the game play, Putting the 'Sploders into the deck AFTER the deal, and only one more Diffuse than players at the table. I'll be interested to see how that affects game play today at my party.
Oliver Foggin 2015-04-11T10:18:50-04:00
Can I get some clarification on the "five card" rule. Does it mean you are sacrificing 5 cards to get another draw? Or do you actually play five different cards? So if you have a shuffle, and favour and three random cards then do you have to shuffle and take a card from someone or do you not shuffle etc...?
Oliver Foggin 2015-04-11T10:20:12-04:00
I mean search the discard pile. Not draw another card...
Hi Oliver! We all played it as sacrificing the five to get a card in the deck. That's why you can use taco cat, potato beard, etc- mixed with action cards. Nobody played it as using all five actions as well.
But I think that's a good question and something that could be brought up in the survey!
Lord Zombitten 2015-04-11T11:27:13-04:00
Original rule as written: "Playing five different cards (any five cards with different icons in their corners) allows you to take any card you'd like while looking through the discard pile." I took that to mean you put your five different cards in the discard, then take any card you want from the discard. Apparently, there were a bunch of people confused on the issue, as the expanded rules (the ones they emailed yesterday) say this: "If you play any five cards that have different icons in the corners (cat cards, action cards, or any combinations are fine as long as each card has a different icon in the corner) ignore the instructions on the cards, and go through the discard pile to take any single card you’d like."
Lord Zombitten 2015-04-11T11:31:27-04:00
I think the revised rules spell out very clearly that the way the five different cards are to be used is to sacrifice five cards to gain one from the discard. However, this is a very good thing to do in certain circumstances. For example, I was playing a game in which it came down to me and one other person. There was one card left in the draw pile. I had three different cats, a shuffle, and a see the future in my hand. Now, with only one card in the draw pile, I don't need to see the future in order to know what it is, and shuffling the deck would be about as useful to me as a boat in the desert. What I needed was a defuse, so I played the three cats with the shuffle and see the future and snagged a defuse from the discard. I drew the sploder, defused it, put it back, and the next player went. He didn't have a defuse card. I won.
Powers of Tesla 2015-04-11T11:48:25-04:00
I've used the five card play several times myself and if you wait til late in the game it can be very useful. BUT, if it leaves you with only the drawn card in your hand, and an opponent has a pair of cards to play the random draw option, it's pointless. Had I but known....
Yes, PoT, I fell victim to that, as well. I drew the defuse. Then, I finished my turn by drawing a skip from the draw pile. The next guy took my skip because he thought it might be the defuse. He skipped himself and the next guy took my defuse card. He then drew a sploder and used my defuse card to save himself. One of the players, who had already lost, said to me, "See? At least it went to good use!" I glared and said, "No, good use would have been saving me!" I lost on my next turn.
I kept forgetting to play my NOPE cards. Someone would play something against me, and I'd be all pissed and realize too late that I could have nope'd them. Also, by the time I played- I had about three very large beers and a shot that someone bought me, soooo...
Mike Kabala 2015-04-11T12:16:52-04:00
How do I get a copy of the revised rules? My deck came with only the printed rule booklet.

Ok, thanks for clearing it up. The confusion we had was the word "play". Because it said "play five cards" some took that to mean you actually do what they say. I think "discard" would be a better alternative. "Discard five cards of different types (different icons) to search the discard pile for a card.
Powers of Tesla 2015-04-11T15:16:58-04:00

I like the revised rules. They make it easier to make sure each player starts with five cards. I have the Exploding Kittens and Defuse cards already separated out into the aback of the deck so that I can begin playing right away the next time I use them. I put the rulebook between them and the rest of the deck.
Epicderpguy 2015-04-11T23:36:45-04:00
7 hours later, still no one has said anything fun or exciting....
For the confusions, my wife can't wrap her head around the attack card as having 2 turns is powerful, she think it shouls be that other player just draws 2 cards, other thing was that if the amount of turns is possible to increase if player wants to play attack cards on same round, or when people start oassing those rounds to each other.
Oliver Foggin 2015-04-12T04:44:48-04:00
I thought the same about the two turns. Originally I thought it was just draw two. I think it should be that also.
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-04-12T06:05:48-04:00
Oliver, so does my wife. I believe is good that it's two turns other wise you have little to none chances to react to it and attack card becomes really powerful, the only cards that could react to it would be other attack card(passing it forward) or nope. Now you can see the future, steal cards from others or skip at least one of the 2 turns.
In the end I noticed how playing with different people chances the mood of game. In the first table I played tbe game was really fun as people acted along and didnt take it too seriously. In second table, I played against some people who play a lot of board games and as 1 persontargeted a favor on me, all the others did as well. Thought behind this being that more I'm targeted better chances of getting of mu defuse card.
On third table I had 2 people who had never met me or each other, I tried to strike conversation but they were both shy to talk. Making game more of a process than fun. Though I could see how girl next to me was getting nervous about taking cards deeper we went in deck as her hand started to shake.
When I play home with my wife and her sister, we have a lot of fun. And both of them take the game really seriously, not wanting to die early in game.
Btw, how much did you guys try psychology or social conversation to gain more intel from your opponents? In the first table one person kept asking people who had seen the future for more intel like "should I shuffle the deck now" or something. This gives game a new angle, I used the same when playing two-of-a-kind against my wifes sister as her face is easy to read and she always checks where is important cards so I'll get something good.
Sorry for a long post, bust stuff that came to mind I wanted to share qith you guys

Juha- that's why I wanted to have it in a bar. There was music, drinking, food- it was a lively atmosphere and people really got into it. Everyone was cheering and yelling and booing during the game. And we were all strangers.
and the attack card- in the rules and how we played it, take two turns. So you pretend you've split into two people. Play a card and draw or just draw, and once you've finished that- do it over again. Can work for or against you. All part of the game!

I did, CB! I'm so happy you got one! Woohoo!

Most of my friends are like, "Exploding Kittens? What's that?" But they get more interested after I explain what it's about.
Thanks, Dr. P. Guess I missed it then.
CB- i know! I had one friend that thought i was crazy, and when he showed up to the party, he was slack-jawed and amazed at the turn-out. When a guy realized I was "creeper" from the comments section, and was all "that's so awesome!" my friend goes "Oh god... she's like their queen or something demented...." hahaha
