All of this due to government placing a moratorium on new power generator construction in the mid to late 90's. There was an excess of power available which we were generating and also selling some of that power to other countries in southern africa.
Then Eskom (the sole power generating company) said we must look to the future and build MORE power stations to cater for the increased demand that would be coming in the next few years (one of the mandates of the new government was basic water and electricity must be granted to all south africans.)

And the cost has increased by insane amounts. We use to have the cheapest power in the world, and were selling it at a profit as well. Unfortunately the local currency took a down turn, contracts couldn't be paid and money had to be lent to keep the ship running. Al of this could have been mitigated if not avoided entirely if "they had only listened when we told them the wolves are coming". Now our power is starting to become the most expensive in the world and we are not even sure when it's going to be on or off.

The funny things is that we have been investing in local solar powered geysers and wind farms as well as solar power up in the northern cape near upington which gets about 98% sun throughout the year.
The problem with all these efforts are that they are labelled under IPP (independent power producers) and do not take a high priority from Eskom. One company tried to get through the red tape for three years, sank 5 Million ZAR into a wind farm and never got it connected to the grid due to red tape and bureaucracy issues with government and ESKOM. the owners packed up and went to the UK.

Illegal connections also hurt the system as people are damaging infrastructure and overloading substations when too many people are using them. Not to mention when kids get electrocuted when stepping on the exposed wires lying around in the squatter camps. Turns out what I was afraid of was true: He's honest and we cut him down so he could never succeed. There are some weird problems with the fact that Kickstarter uses Amazon Payments, for which you can only be in a select few countries, but yeah, he needs an American bank account and address, which explains the intermediary. I thought for about an hour on how to get around that and the 20% cut they take and the risk, but I couldn't think of one. Basically, I told him in exchange for starting a campaign under his real name (which I have now), his picture (which I've seen as well) and if possible make his shown location russia but keep the address american so it works, I would PERSONALLY ensure that you're all supportive and help him. He is honest and only had dishonest means with which to work. So I tried to make it the most legitemate possible with the given circumstances.

Turns out what I was afraid of was true: He's honest and we cut him down so he could never succeed. There are some weird problems with the fact that Kickstarter uses Amazon Payments, for which you can only be in a select few countries, but yeah, he needs an American bank account and address, which explains the intermediary. I thought for about an hour on how to get around that and the 20% cut they take and the risk, but I couldn't think of one. Basically, I told him in exchange for starting a campaign under his real name (which I have now), his picture (which I've seen as well) and if possible make his shown location russia but keep the address american so it works, I would PERSONALLY ensure that you're all supportive and help him. He is honest and only had dishonest means with which to work. So I tried to make it the most legitemate possible with the given circumstances.

Well we said before, cut the bull. He does that we stop attacking. The first couple were CLEARLY scams. He wants to go legit by all means that fine. He still has to follow the kickstarter rule with prototyping and what not. Truth be told PoT probably saved him from an ACTUAL con artist by the sounds of it anyway. I helped explain how he culd do it like this so he seems as legitemate as he wants to be. Also, Stripe doesn't support Russia either, not even a beta. Lets hope that gets fixed.

Regarding Gleb. Meh, I don't buy it. He could have been upfront all along, but he chose to do the bad thing. He's got a track record now of using stolen identities, hidden locations, and other blocks in transparencies. Let him fry. If he's getting these prototypes made, then just sell the damn things that way, and forego Kickstarter altogether. Set up a website, and work within your limitations.

He looks to be about early to mid 30s. Those probably weren't real photos, though come to think of it, one, I forget which, looks somewhat similar.
Yeah, I explained why we thought he was a scammer, but I trust him at least enough to help him out. I think he understands, plus I know his real name now and have a picture for comparison, plus he's from Moscow or that region, so when he tells me he's made a legitemate campaign, I'll check it over and send you guys there to try to help out. I mean, he's a new starting creator now and trying to do it the right way as much as possible with no way to do it perfectly honestly. Until the payment plans support russia, he needs the intermediary, which hurts him more than any of us.
I hate to say this Zem, but screw him. I wouldn't back him now no matter how "legitimate" he tries to appear. He's already shown his true colors multiple times, and his attempts at becoming legitimate are more than likely just ways to make it seem less like he is a scammer. It's what scammers do.

If HE breaks that trust it's one thing and I'll gladly hunt him down before you can. If he's at least honest enough to try to prove it to us, that's different. Trust me, adjusting for cultural differences and KS's shitty payment system, that's the best we could work out, ok? Just trust me. If he's really a scammer, I'll take him out out of anger.
