Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-22T17:47:05-05:00
America finally waged war against Canada! It's a new, strange type of war: Weather War!
`
"Oh yeah? Well we're taking your winter!"
"Well... thanks! It's pretty miserably cold up here anyways. We'll take your more mild winter weather, and you can have some nice Tundra!"
"Ohh crap, what have we gotten ourselves into?!"
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-22T18:55:48-05:00
BaKhan, that's how it's been here, too. Just last week, I was running errands in jeans and a t-shirt. I'm not one of those people who wears shorts and flip flops in the snow, either. For me, anything below about 50 Fahrenheit is jacket weather
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-23T07:27:39-05:00
Morning kittens. Sorry for the radio silence. I've been studying for this exam for the part time position. Took yesterday off so I could bone up. Hope I pass it.
It was 62 degrees yesterday and today it's going up to 66. Spring like weather. I'll admit, I don't mind a break from the fridge air.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-23T07:45:36-05:00
Also, there may be a possibility of me changing positions in the company I currently work. It would be a demotion as far as title but I would (hopefully) get an extra $10 grand, less work and not have to work past 8 hours per day. And I wouldn't lose my vacation time and other benefits.
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T08:38:21-05:00
Morning kittens. How's everybody doing?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:12:34-05:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:13:40-05:00
@Zem, lol, sounds like that worked as well as 1812... oh, too soon? ;p hehe
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:16:42-05:00
@LZ, I'm with you, anything colder than 50F is definitely jacket weather! Although, I remember being down in California during February once, and it was close to 60F and I saw many people wearing heavy winter coats, toques (beanies), and gloves... it was pretty funny! I actually felt like a real Canadian there for a bit! Yeah, I'm immune to the cold... as far as they knew anyways... If I remember correctly we were wearing hoodies. ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:18:19-05:00
@Geist, thats totally understandable! You go and crush that exam! You can do it! Also, who cares about a title! 10k more AND less hours? Sign me up! ;) I wonder if I can get demoted? ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:19:02-05:00
@CB, doing fine this morning good sir, and I hope the same for you! I see you're getting into the TEZ pretty hard there hey?
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T09:39:14-05:00
@BaKhan, I printed out the "Print and Play" for TEZ yesterday. It's a bit of a misnomer though, if you're wanting a useable game, which I do since the actual game won't be delivered until October at least. I got some double-thickness chip board for the game location tiles, character tiles, and in-game tokens. The chip board was so thick I practically destroyed my hand trimming it with an X-acto knife.
For the action cards, I got a good quality black cardstock so that I could effectively produce "black core" cards. I even got a corner rounding punch to finish them up and make them easier to shuffle.
I'm shopping now for the "components not included" that I need to complete the game and make it playable. This includes two sizes of meeples and a TON of 8mm wooden cubes in no less than NINE DIFFERENT COLORS. I hope I get everything I need before the actual game comes out!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-23T09:57:33-05:00
@CB, that sounds awesome! I haven't actually "made" a game in a long long time, probably since I was in my early 20's tbh. I didn't know a thing about black core cards or anything like that, we used to use old cereal boxes... ;) It sounds like you're making a real top shelf version of the print n play! I don't know if you've checked it out but the BGG (board game geek) store would probably have all the cubes and meeples a person could ever want! You are a dynamo when you get excited about something, you know that? ;)
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T10:20:44-05:00
I found a store called MeepleSource.com that had *most* of the other items I need. Now I just need to build a motorcycle ... I'm thinking an appropriately sized image of a motorcycle that I can put a meeple on, mounted on some of that remaining chip board.
I tend to get obsessive when doing Print and Play games, but it's a fun hobby and it empowers me to have a game that's just "a little bit better" than moving little pieces of paper around on the table. (... less prone to someone sneezing, etc.)
@LZ/BaKhan: When I was in Vegas with Phil and his brother, we were walking around early mornings in t-shirts, while the people handing out flyers(standing in the sun) were wearing heavy jackets. We definitely got some looks, and the customary "You must be Canadian!" comments.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-23T11:31:27-05:00
GM, Haha, if that's canadian, what am I?
If not for propriety's sake, I'd still be in a t-shirt and shorts! It might be funny to move to the deep south and get some great looks every winter whenever it goes below 70.
`
... but then move back north during the summer, because I've been to the south in the summer, no way I'm ever living there the whole time!
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T11:42:01-05:00
North, South, Canadian, US, whatever ...
I've been spotted wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts in 90 degree weather and also wearing shorts and a tee shirt in 20 degree weather.
... I get looks ALL the time!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-23T12:00:37-05:00
Haha, CB, now you've got to go for gold: A parka in 100 degree weather, and beach outfit (hawaiian tee, shorts, flip-flops, sunglasses) and eating ice cream in a blizzard!
`
One of those is one of my dreams; can you guess which one? ;)
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T12:09:06-05:00
@Zem, lol, why not? I wore a genuine Hawaiian shirt in last year's Christmas play. Even played Mele Kalikimaka on the ukulele.
My guess is that the 100 degree parka is your secret wish, but you would have to wear it ALL DAY!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-23T12:28:26-05:00
Yeah... guess again!
One of my other wish is literally to go hiking for miles in at least waist-deep snow, if that gives you any hint.
Mike Kabala 2018-01-23T12:36:26-05:00
;-)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-23T17:29:57-05:00
Chalk Powerhouse by the Raymond Scott Quintet up to one of the songs most caught in people's heads in all of history. Darn Looney Tunes, making it so several generations of children in a row hear that song dozens of times and getting it firmly planted in their heads for the rest of their lives!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-23T17:50:00-05:00
Also, I may or may not have a funny anecdote about how I may or may not have accidentally, unwittingly smuggled a knife into the Bundestag (German parliament building)... but maybe I'll save it for another time when there's less of a chance of them finding out.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-24T02:47:10-05:00
Oh, by the way, that's "chalk this song up to...", not like "Chalk Powerhouse" is a song. I didn't realize that might be confusing.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-24T04:09:15-05:00
Morning kittens. Today is the day I take my test. I need all your kitten good wishes to help me pass. I'll try to check in at lunch time.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-24T06:34:06-05:00
Good luck, Geist! Don't worry, we know you can do it no problem!
Mike Kabala 2018-01-24T08:33:29-05:00
Morning kittens. I forgot to mention that I assembled the EK puzzle last weekend. The dog only chewed two pieces.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-24T09:15:32-05:00
Morning kittens.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-24T09:16:29-05:00
@Geist, sending you all the good wishes! I know you've got this. You know you've got this. Now its time to show them! You've got this!!! Go girl! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-24T09:32:36-05:00
@Zem, I have always loved classical music, but Looney toons just pushed it over the top. I love a good riff like powerhouse! So many great tunes were used. I think that is where I heard The Barber of Seville for the first time too!
Mike Kabala 2018-01-24T10:08:45-05:00
@Zem, LOL! It took me several tries to parse your message about Raymond Scott Quintet's song "Powerhouse" even after your "clarification," but I'm glad I did. I immediately recognized the tune from my childhood days.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-24T10:29:15-05:00
CB, haha, I know, I read it back and thought it said Chalk Powerhouse, and got so confused myself! But yeah, I love that song, and nearly everyone recognizes it, but it took me forever to find the name and look it up!
`
BaKhan, Looney Tunes, for such a goofy show, really had a great musical selection!
Holy cow! I was monitoring the comments on another KS campaign and all of a sudden they started doing a live video feed ... which I couldn't shut off ... while I was tethered to my cell phone ... using up my cellular data.
I had to close the page.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-24T14:41:48-05:00
Wow, I didn't even know that was possible, CB!
By which I mean streaming video directly on here. Didn't even know that was a thing! But really? Not even a way to pause it so it stops loading? Wow, that seems just kind of logical!
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-24T15:36:58-05:00
Gaaah!! I want to kill someone right about now! And not just any someone; a specific someone. Someone who gave my boss and me bad information, which led to me only getting about five hours of sleep last night, wondering if I'd have a job in the near future...
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-24T15:37:41-05:00
I move for a vote of no confidence in his abilities!
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-24T15:38:52-05:00
@CB, you posted a link to a hobby saw that you got and recommended. I lost the link, but have money now; will you post it again?
Mike Kabala 2018-01-24T15:51:22-05:00
@LZ, wow that was years ago. I'll see if I can look it up and post it here if I do.
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-24T16:00:32-05:00
Or you could say the brand name and I can google it
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-24T17:09:14-05:00
I PASSED!!!! I am now waiting for the HR person to help me finish my paperwork and the me when (and where) I start my new job.
After all I went through, there will be drinking tonight.
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-24T21:05:02-05:00
Congrats, Geist!!! We knew you could do it!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T02:35:37-05:00
HELL YEAH, Geist! All that hard work really payed off!
Yeah, celebration definitely sounds in order.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T06:37:31-05:00
Morning kittens.
Update: I still have to turn in paperwork and get my certification in D.C. before I can work. That will have to wait until Monday. What bothers me is that the company gave me the impression that there is a part time gig once I'm done with all of this and now I find out that isn't true. In other words, it's not a permanent part time position. Only as a part time floater. I guess that is alright as long as I get a steady income. If not, I'll have to take my certification to another company.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T06:38:16-05:00
And I didn't get that drink last night. It was way too late when I left the place. I went home and flopped straight into bed.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T08:02:03-05:00
Ah, that's too bad, Geist. Both of them, though particularly the former, making the latter even more needed, though it can always be made up during the lunch break. ;)
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T08:52:34-05:00
Morning Kittens. Belated congrats and then con dolences to @Geist. Hope things go better from here on out.
BTW, flopping into bed after a long day at work is my signature move. If you're going to do the same thing, you need to license it. ;-)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T09:05:28-05:00
Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T09:06:43-05:00
@Geist, yay! I'm so glad you passed. Regardless of anything else, you should be proud of that achievement! I hope it turns into something stable for you, but now you have that certification, its yours to do with as you please! Another tool in your arsenal so to speak! You got this!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T09:08:43-05:00
RE: Flopping into bed after a long day, maybe we can set up franchises? I don't do that myself as its too much of a pain in the butt with all my sleep apnea gear, its hard to just flop into bed, but it was a thing years ago for me too. ;)
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T09:14:58-05:00
@BaKhan, you must be one of those people who actually follow the instructions for cleaning and maintaining your CPAP gear. I am not so fastidious, so it's merely a matter of slipping on the headgear and pushing the button. Easy peasey!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T09:24:54-05:00
@CB: Happy to pay a fee? What is it? A hot toddy and a fluffy pillow?
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T09:39:57-05:00
I would have liked to just flop into bed yesterday, but I had to make my birthday cake. I usually get tasked with doing that so I can get the exact cake I want. I tried to get out of it this year, but that didn't work. *grumble grumble groan*
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T09:48:17-05:00
@Geist, LOL. Who can say no to a fluffy pillow?
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T09:57:16-05:00
Happy Birthday LZ!
*throws glitter around*
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T10:00:07-05:00
Thanks, Geist! Be careful with that glitter, though. It gets everywhere and into everything!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T10:05:08-05:00
Be careful, LZ, or you might give us the idea to get you half a ton of glitter for your birthday!
@LZ: Happy birthday. Sucks when you need to make your own cake. I prefer ice cream cake myself, so I don't even need to make it, just buy it.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T10:24:21-05:00
@CB, I've got an oxygen multiplier on it as well... and with the pressures my Bi-pap is set to, I have to tighten the heck out the head gear to get a good seal. Otherwise its making farting sounds against my face every time I turn my head in my sleep. Pretty counter productive considering the whole point of the thing is to help me stay asleep... ;) I don't want to complain though, life was hell before I got it!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T10:24:56-05:00
@LZ, happy birthday! I would have been glad to make your cake for you, but you know, long distance cakes... ;) Hey that would be a good band name!
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T10:24:57-05:00
It'll be worth it, though. The wife asked what kind of cake I want, so I told her some kind of cheesecake. I was going to let her pick. She wanted to do the Jello, cheater cheesecake. I told her that was unacceptable, so she told me to be more specific. I asked how specific, and she said as specific as possible, and after I did that, she said that I would be doing most of the work.
The cake has a brownie crust. Then there's a thin layer of dulce de leche. The cheesecake part is caramel cheesecake with a caramel swirl in it. Caramel whipped cream and chocolate shavings will top the whole thing off.
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T10:26:29-05:00
Thanks, BaKhan! That would be a good band name; especially if you're a ska band. It could work for other genres, as well.
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T10:29:07-05:00
It would be hilarious as a black metal band name. People would see the name and think it was some lighthearted music; go to the show because tickets were only ten bucks, so why not?; and then be surprised when people wearing black and white face paint come out on stage, wearing all kinds of leather and spikes. Aaah! I love it!
@LZ: You just made me want to go find a cheesecake to eat.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T10:41:47-05:00
The cake has a brownie crust. Then there's a thin layer of dulce de leche. The cheesecake part is caramel cheesecake with a caramel swirl in it. Caramel whipped cream and chocolate shavings will top the whole thing off.
*drools* I would be happy to fly to Utah to have some of that.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T10:42:19-05:00
What is a Jello cheater cake?
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T10:42:50-05:00
@GM: I was thinking the same thing. I think a trip to the Cheesecake Factory is in order today.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T10:52:55-05:00
@LZ, that cake sound absolutely divine! I can honestly say I've never had one of those before! The cheesecake that I had came from a restaurant called Big T's, and its a smoked maple cheese cake. So friggen delicious! Like, crazy good. Death metal band... lol... yeah I could see that... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T10:53:30-05:00
@Geist, What is a Jello cheater cake? Disgusting. End of story.
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T11:09:43-05:00
Jello cheater cake is a no-bake abomination. You mix the Jello cheesecake mix with watever liquid ingredients, pour the mixture into one of those premade crusts, and stick it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Like BaKhan said, it's not very good.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T11:11:59-05:00
@LZ, thats what my Mother in law considers baking... sigh. Much like everything else she butchers... I mean tries to cook. Blech.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T11:24:29-05:00
Hoo boy, guess what I found at a local grocery store?
$1 for a liter of Glühwein, mulled wine! And what's more, it's not half bad! Only problem is I don't have any way of heating it, but luckily the hot water here is... like satan himself wouldn't dare touch it, it's so hot. So I can plug my sink (not perfectly, though, so it drains a bit on me) and let it sit in that water, and tadaa! Cheap, easy, lukewarm, okay Glühwein!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T11:28:28-05:00
GM, everyone in my family but me prefers ice cream cake, but my mom makes it by hand as well, and it's super good!
`
LZ, that sounds so delicious! Man, I wish I were still in that hemisphere so I could joke about driving to Utah just to try that cake!
`
Haha, Long-distance Cheesecake. One of the best band names I've ever heard!
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T11:32:11-05:00
Speaking of ice cream cake, a couple years ago, my birthday cake was a baked alaska. I did that one myself, as well.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T11:41:20-05:00
Ice cream cakes started to become a thing (in Canada at least) right around the same time the my allergy to nuts kicked in. So I've had the old school ones a couple of times, the first time I remember liking it, the second time it was freezer burned so not as much. Now, I choose life, so... yeah. ;) I've seen baked alaska before, on a cruise ship, with a very fancy choreographed delivery by the service staff, it looked really cool, but sadly was toxic so I couldn't have any. Seeing all those amazing things, but not being able to have them because of allergies is why I learned to cook, bake, confect, etc. ;) I may not ever achieve truly professional standards, but I think I do ok. ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T12:01:33-05:00
@BaKhan: You know, you could make your own ice cream so that you could have a safe ice cream cake. With lots of bacon maple brittle.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T12:26:09-05:00
@Geist, oh I know I could. I actually have an attachment for my mixer that is designed to make ice cream. I just don't know if I could get it from that to an ice cream cake before I ate all the ice cream... ;) Oh and adding the mbb... that might be more than a mere mortal such as myself could handle! ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T12:28:53-05:00
BaKhan, what do ice cream cakes have to do with nuts? From what I can think of now, not most of them have nuts, especially the one my mom makes.
Which was really just a transition into talking about my mom's ice-cream cake, which is so good that I, as an ice-cream cake disliker, love it. Dense brownie bottom, ice-cream middle, and I still have no idea what the top is, but it always seems to me like some kind of mix of frosting and ice-cream, but it's also great.
@Zem: It has to do with where you purchase most of them. From the grocery store, you can't guarantee they are made in a factory with no nuts. From places like Dairy Queen, there are so many items for their blizzards that have nuts, it's just not the safest of places for anyone with nut allergies. And same goes with just the regular ice cream you can buy, no guarantee it is made in a nut-free environment.
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T13:15:06-05:00
LOL, I wish I lived in a "not-free environment."
Sorry ... couldn't resisty.
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T13:16:35-05:00
Dang typos!
Mike Kabala 2018-01-25T13:16:59-05:00
I wish I lived in a "nut-free environment."
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T14:11:04-05:00
GM, aha, that makes sense. And in that case, just make them at home! Heck, I'd love to ask my mom for her recipe and upload it to Kitty Chow on the LitterBox.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T14:32:06-05:00
@CB, lol, I'm amazed you lived through typing that! I'd expect a giant bald eagle wearing a bandana, smoking a big cigar while eating a BigMac and toting two large fully automatic machine guns busting through your roof for that one! ;) Land of the Free! 'Merica! ;) I think that might have been funnier than what you intended to write... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T14:35:54-05:00
@Zem, yeah if it says "may contain", I hear a loud klaxon going off in my head. Toxic treats are the worst! Many items such as chocolate are recycled, so they often have more than just trace nuts in them (as well as the myriad other things that they can't keep out, like rat hair and feces, fly parts, etc.). I often do try to make stuff at home, but some things really aren't worth the effort required, tbh.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T14:40:22-05:00
Is it wrong that I like to eat nuts?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T14:43:38-05:00
@Geist, not to most people... >.> ;) just jokes! Of course not! My wife has toxic treats all the time. The only thing I will absolutely not let in my house under any circumstances is peanut butter. That stuff gets fricken everywhere and is super hard to get rid of. I don't need my house becoming a toxic wasteland, for me. ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T14:44:36-05:00
@Geist, oh and there was a veritable cornucopia, a plethora it you will, of jokes that I had to struggle pretty hard not to say right there... just saying... ;p
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T14:46:03-05:00
@Geist, nothing wrong with that at all! Nuts are nummy
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T14:47:25-05:00
BaKhan, that's why so long ago, I would simply say "So many things..." whenever so many dirty jokes could be made about something someone said in here.
@BaKhan: I was struggling not to say one of the many jokes.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-01-25T15:05:56-05:00
@Geist, oh and there was a veritable cornucopia, a plethora it you will, of jokes that I had to struggle pretty hard not to say right there... just saying... ;p
Actually, that was my joke. :-P
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T15:58:07-05:00
LZ, and yet you walked right into that same predicament yourself! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T16:00:15-05:00
@Geist, lol, touche! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T16:00:32-05:00
@GM, the struggle was real! ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-01-25T16:01:39-05:00
@LZ, lol, yeah that sounds right. In person I tend to just make eye contact and smile, big. ;)
Lord Zombitten 2018-01-25T16:12:22-05:00
@Zem, I did. I understood the double entendre, but I like pecans, cashews, etc.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-01-25T16:31:08-05:00
LZ, I know it's wrong to say, but I JUST LOVE NUTS SO MUCH, AND I CAN'T DENY IT!!! ;)
BaKhan, that's how it's been here, too. Just last week, I was running errands in jeans and a t-shirt. I'm not one of those people who wears shorts and flip flops in the snow, either. For me, anything below about 50 Fahrenheit is jacket weather
Also, there may be a possibility of me changing positions in the company I currently work. It would be a demotion as far as title but I would (hopefully) get an extra $10 grand, less work and not have to work past 8 hours per day. And I wouldn't lose my vacation time and other benefits.
Morning kittens. How's everybody doing?
Morning kittens!
@Zem, lol, sounds like that worked as well as 1812... oh, too soon? ;p hehe
If I remember correctly we were wearing hoodies. ;)
@Geist, thats totally understandable! You go and crush that exam! You can do it! Also, who cares about a title! 10k more AND less hours? Sign me up! ;) I wonder if I can get demoted? ;)
@CB, doing fine this morning good sir, and I hope the same for you! I see you're getting into the TEZ pretty hard there hey?
You are a dynamo when you get excited about something, you know that? ;)
Morning kittens.
@LZ/BaKhan: When I was in Vegas with Phil and his brother, we were walking around early mornings in t-shirts, while the people handing out flyers(standing in the sun) were wearing heavy jackets. We definitely got some looks, and the customary "You must be Canadian!" comments.
North, South, Canadian, US, whatever ...
I've been spotted wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts in 90 degree weather and also wearing shorts and a tee shirt in 20 degree weather.
... I get looks ALL the time!
Haha, CB, now you've got to go for gold: A parka in 100 degree weather, and beach outfit (hawaiian tee, shorts, flip-flops, sunglasses) and eating ice cream in a blizzard!
`
One of those is one of my dreams; can you guess which one? ;)
@Zem, lol, why not? I wore a genuine Hawaiian shirt in last year's Christmas play. Even played Mele Kalikimaka on the ukulele.
My guess is that the 100 degree parka is your secret wish, but you would have to wear it ALL DAY!
Yeah... guess again!
One of my other wish is literally to go hiking for miles in at least waist-deep snow, if that gives you any hint.
;-)
Chalk Powerhouse by the Raymond Scott Quintet up to one of the songs most caught in people's heads in all of history. Darn Looney Tunes, making it so several generations of children in a row hear that song dozens of times and getting it firmly planted in their heads for the rest of their lives!
Also, I may or may not have a funny anecdote about how I may or may not have accidentally, unwittingly smuggled a knife into the Bundestag (German parliament building)... but maybe I'll save it for another time when there's less of a chance of them finding out.
Oh, by the way, that's "chalk this song up to...", not like "Chalk Powerhouse" is a song. I didn't realize that might be confusing.
Morning kittens. Today is the day I take my test. I need all your kitten good wishes to help me pass. I'll try to check in at lunch time.
Good luck, Geist! Don't worry, we know you can do it no problem!
Morning kittens. I forgot to mention that I assembled the EK puzzle last weekend. The dog only chewed two pieces.
Morning kittens.
@Geist, sending you all the good wishes! I know you've got this. You know you've got this. Now its time to show them! You've got this!!! Go girl! ;)
@Zem, I have always loved classical music, but Looney toons just pushed it over the top. I love a good riff like powerhouse! So many great tunes were used. I think that is where I heard The Barber of Seville for the first time too!
@Zem, LOL! It took me several tries to parse your message about Raymond Scott Quintet's song "Powerhouse" even after your "clarification," but I'm glad I did. I immediately recognized the tune from my childhood days.
Morning kittens.
Holy cow! I was monitoring the comments on another KS campaign and all of a sudden they started doing a live video feed ... which I couldn't shut off ... while I was tethered to my cell phone ... using up my cellular data.
I had to close the page.
Wow, I didn't even know that was possible, CB!
By which I mean streaming video directly on here. Didn't even know that was a thing! But really? Not even a way to pause it so it stops loading? Wow, that seems just kind of logical!
Gaaah!! I want to kill someone right about now! And not just any someone; a specific someone. Someone who gave my boss and me bad information, which led to me only getting about five hours of sleep last night, wondering if I'd have a job in the near future...
I move for a vote of no confidence in his abilities!
@CB, you posted a link to a hobby saw that you got and recommended. I lost the link, but have money now; will you post it again?
@LZ, wow that was years ago. I'll see if I can look it up and post it here if I do.
Or you could say the brand name and I can google it
www.byrnesmodelmachines.com
Thank you so much!
I PASSED!!!! I am now waiting for the HR person to help me finish my paperwork and the me when (and where) I start my new job.
After all I went through, there will be drinking tonight.
Congrats, Geist!!! We knew you could do it!
HELL YEAH, Geist! All that hard work really payed off!
Yeah, celebration definitely sounds in order.
And I didn't get that drink last night. It was way too late when I left the place. I went home and flopped straight into bed.
Ah, that's too bad, Geist. Both of them, though particularly the former, making the latter even more needed, though it can always be made up during the lunch break. ;)
Morning Kittens. Belated congrats and then con dolences to @Geist. Hope things go better from here on out.
BTW, flopping into bed after a long day at work is my signature move. If you're going to do the same thing, you need to license it. ;-)
Morning kittens!
@Geist, yay! I'm so glad you passed. Regardless of anything else, you should be proud of that achievement! I hope it turns into something stable for you, but now you have that certification, its yours to do with as you please! Another tool in your arsenal so to speak! You got this!
RE: Flopping into bed after a long day, maybe we can set up franchises? I don't do that myself as its too much of a pain in the butt with all my sleep apnea gear, its hard to just flop into bed, but it was a thing years ago for me too. ;)
@BaKhan, you must be one of those people who actually follow the instructions for cleaning and maintaining your CPAP gear. I am not so fastidious, so it's merely a matter of slipping on the headgear and pushing the button. Easy peasey!
@CB: Happy to pay a fee? What is it? A hot toddy and a fluffy pillow?
I would have liked to just flop into bed yesterday, but I had to make my birthday cake. I usually get tasked with doing that so I can get the exact cake I want. I tried to get out of it this year, but that didn't work. *grumble grumble groan*
@Geist, LOL. Who can say no to a fluffy pillow?
Happy Birthday LZ!
*throws glitter around*
Thanks, Geist! Be careful with that glitter, though. It gets everywhere and into everything!
Be careful, LZ, or you might give us the idea to get you half a ton of glitter for your birthday!
Morning kittens.
@LZ: Happy birthday. Sucks when you need to make your own cake. I prefer ice cream cake myself, so I don't even need to make it, just buy it.
@LZ, happy birthday! I would have been glad to make your cake for you, but you know, long distance cakes... ;) Hey that would be a good band name!
Thanks, BaKhan! That would be a good band name; especially if you're a ska band. It could work for other genres, as well.
What is a Jello cheater cake?
@GM: I was thinking the same thing. I think a trip to the Cheesecake Factory is in order today.
@LZ, that cake sound absolutely divine! I can honestly say I've never had one of those before! The cheesecake that I had came from a restaurant called Big T's, and its a smoked maple cheese cake. So friggen delicious! Like, crazy good. Death metal band... lol... yeah I could see that... ;)
@Geist, What is a Jello cheater cake? Disgusting. End of story.
Jello cheater cake is a no-bake abomination. You mix the Jello cheesecake mix with watever liquid ingredients, pour the mixture into one of those premade crusts, and stick it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Like BaKhan said, it's not very good.
@LZ, thats what my Mother in law considers baking... sigh. Much like everything else she butchers... I mean tries to cook. Blech.
Speaking of ice cream cake, a couple years ago, my birthday cake was a baked alaska. I did that one myself, as well.
Seeing all those amazing things, but not being able to have them because of allergies is why I learned to cook, bake, confect, etc. ;) I may not ever achieve truly professional standards, but I think I do ok. ;)
@BaKhan: You know, you could make your own ice cream so that you could have a safe ice cream cake. With lots of bacon maple brittle.
@Geist, oh I know I could. I actually have an attachment for my mixer that is designed to make ice cream. I just don't know if I could get it from that to an ice cream cake before I ate all the ice cream... ;) Oh and adding the mbb... that might be more than a mere mortal such as myself could handle! ;)
LOL, I wish I lived in a "not-free environment."
Sorry ... couldn't resisty.
Dang typos!
I wish I lived in a "nut-free environment."
GM, aha, that makes sense. And in that case, just make them at home! Heck, I'd love to ask my mom for her recipe and upload it to Kitty Chow on the LitterBox.
@CB, lol, I'm amazed you lived through typing that! I'd expect a giant bald eagle wearing a bandana, smoking a big cigar while eating a BigMac and toting two large fully automatic machine guns busting through your roof for that one! ;) Land of the Free! 'Merica! ;) I think that might have been funnier than what you intended to write... ;)
Is it wrong that I like to eat nuts?
@Geist, not to most people... >.> ;) just jokes! Of course not! My wife has toxic treats all the time. The only thing I will absolutely not let in my house under any circumstances is peanut butter. That stuff gets fricken everywhere and is super hard to get rid of. I don't need my house becoming a toxic wasteland, for me. ;)
@Geist, oh and there was a veritable cornucopia, a plethora it you will, of jokes that I had to struggle pretty hard not to say right there... just saying... ;p
@Geist, nothing wrong with that at all! Nuts are nummy
BaKhan, that's why so long ago, I would simply say "So many things..." whenever so many dirty jokes could be made about something someone said in here.
@BaKhan: I was struggling not to say one of the many jokes.
@Geist, oh and there was a veritable cornucopia, a plethora it you will, of jokes that I had to struggle pretty hard not to say right there... just saying... ;p
Actually, that was my joke. :-P
LZ, and yet you walked right into that same predicament yourself! ;)
@Geist, lol, touche! ;)
@GM, the struggle was real! ;)
@LZ, lol, yeah that sounds right. In person I tend to just make eye contact and smile, big. ;)
@Zem, I did. I understood the double entendre, but I like pecans, cashews, etc.
LZ, I know it's wrong to say, but I JUST LOVE NUTS SO MUCH, AND I CAN'T DENY IT!!! ;)
YAY! My weekend starts now. I shall return on Monday.
