Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-03-30T11:23:39-04:00
Morning kittens.
In less than one week, I've been chewed out for something I didn't do.
Before I took the temp assignment, I told the representative that I needed March 29th off so that I can volunteer and would he let the job know about this. He said "yes" and I thought it was settled. When I told the supervisor that I was taking yesterday off, all she said was to send an email to the head of the department. When I got back into the office this morning, there was a searing email from the department head and it was clear that she was PISSED. I call the temp agency rep and told him what was going on. He left me a message saying it was clearly not my fault and that they (the temp agency) dropped the ball. So now they are trying to smooth things over with the company I'm at.
This same sort of thing also happened at my part time job. I was asked by the manager to come in at 11 am instead of my usual 7 am. Of course, he didn't relay that to the supervisor and the supervisor lost my number. So when I cam in at 11 am, I was told that, I was being written up as a "no call/no show". That will get you fired so I spent 30 minutes calling both the supervisor and the manager to explain why I came in late. I was off the hook but it still pissed me off that they can do something like that and get away with it but I can't.
And this is one of the reasons why I don't like talking to people at work.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-03-30T12:01:04-04:00
Well, you got to give this job credit, Geist, it sure is exciting; you don't know who will yell at you next or for what new, exciting BS reason. Plus, the stress keeps your heart racing and your blood boiling, so it's even a bit healthy! ;)
So I'm guessing you won't be too disappointed if that place doesn't have a chance for a permanent position, huh?
Mike Kabala 2018-03-30T12:10:25-04:00
@Geist, never assume that if you tell one person they will tell everyone else. Your safest course of action is to tell the temp agency your plans and then speak to your manager and say something like. "You should be hearing from the temp agency about my plan to tale off on the 29th. I have already cleared the date with them and they said it would be alright. I also wanted to let you know in case the message from the temp agency gets missed."
In other words, cover your ass as much as possible so that NOBODY can claim that they weren't notified. It's sad that we have to do this, but the people we rely on too often turn out to be unreliable. I learned to do this myself after one too many incidents where a message didn't get relayed that should have. Now my attitude is, if I want to make sure somebody knows something, I will tell them myself even if someone else should have done so.
Mike Kabala 2018-03-30T12:19:01-04:00
It's like what I learned in journalism school about TV news reporting: Tell them what yo9u're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them. LOL
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-03-30T12:20:50-04:00
@CB: Everything you said was completely right. Why I thought the temp rep would do his job is beyond me. I will do this going forward but this puts a damper on my Con time now.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-03-30T19:15:00-04:00
Geist, don't feel too bad about it. As we've discussed here recently with keeping oil-change receipts, people just assume and take it for granted, it's just one of those things. I've been guilty of seemingly obvious assumptions when I should have assumed it dozens of times, it's just something you have to get used to.
My father, a major proponent of the "Assumptions make an ass out of u and me" line, learned this fact long ago, since that's pretty much his entire job as a project manager. However, most people never really worry about having to tell people if someone says they'll do it, and it's part of their job.
In short: In the future, yes, make sure everyone knows what they need to, and don't assume they know literally anything, but at the same time, this wasn't your fault whatsoever, the rep took the responsibility and failed both you and your manager.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-01T05:09:06-04:00
Happy Easter, everyone!
APRIL FOOLS! Easter's been canceled this year. They gave it up for lent.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-01T16:11:44-04:00
@Zem, LOL. Wish I'd seen your post before "wasting time" going to church today. Happily, one thing that will never be cancelled is the free gift from God that we all celebrate on Easter. (Rom 5:18)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-02T07:03:30-04:00
Well that makes it much easier for me. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I only had a one-day weekend this weekend, and even so had quite a bit to do, even on Easter, and just wanted a bit more of a break because it's really been catching up on me, plus I couldn't sleep at all last night..
`
I somehow doubt I've ever said this before, but thank God, I was sick today! I really didn't feel good after breakfast, so I had a reason to take today off! Still plenty of work for tomorrow, though...
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-02T15:45:30-04:00
Huh, I was ready to apologize for missing everything today due to being sick, super busy, and distracted by Reddit finally putting up their april fools thing, the Circle of Trust, but I guess I didn't miss much.
`
So, to catch up:
Morning, kittens.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-03T08:38:58-04:00
Morning kittens.
Sorry for the radio silence. I'm still trying to catch up on from the lack of sleep I didn't get this weekend. Awesome Con was great (as always). I picked up several t-shirts that were book themed, some hair picks, earrings and other do dads. Unlike other years, I went with a friend on Saturday. It was so much fun to show him around and he really enjoyed it. I spent both Friday and Saturday staying until the Con closed for which I paid a heavy toll. I got barely 3 hours sleep between Friday/Saturday and could barely stay awake on my part time job. Next year, I'm taking Saturday off for the Con. No exceptions!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-03T09:23:21-04:00
Hey BaKhan. Did the insurance company see sense yet?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-03T09:34:18-04:00
@Geist, its not the insurance company, its the dealership. And, no, they will not be honoring the warranty. So, I'm pretty much screwed. I've been dealing with the bank to try and secure the funds to fix my car. This is going to set me way back financially, but I owe too much on the car to abandon it. I was raised to be tough, I was raised to not give up. Honestly this year is trying to challenge all of that. I just feel like I've fallen on the floor and instead of anyone offering a hand up, I just keep getting kicked by the passersby. I'm trying not to have a pity party or anything, but dang, give a guy a break!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-03T15:45:19-04:00
@BaKhan: I know how you feel. Problems tend to come in groups and can seem overwhelming. But you and I are fighters. And you WILL get through this. Sending good vibes your way that you'll get this resolved soon.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-04T04:03:48-04:00
Good morning kittens. Good news! If I retire today, I can be poor the rest of my life.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-04T07:48:49-04:00
Morning kittens. I'm still sleepy. Slept past the stop I need to get off from work and ended up at the end of the line. Good thing I don't work too far from it.
@CB: I can never retire.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-04T08:20:11-04:00
CB, I was going to laugh, but then I realized how relatable that is. If I retired today, I could be homeless starting as soon as I like, and my bank would probably put a bounty on my head for student loans!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-04T08:49:22-04:00
Mother Nature needs to stop dicking around and just give us spring time temps. I'm stick of wearing my winter coat.
@Zem, thanks for helping me keep things in perspective. I remember how much fun it was when I still had student loans.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-04T10:54:12-04:00
Haha, no problem, CB! Glad to... be somewhat worse off than you? Wait...
`
Geist, you'd like it here for once. Nature finally made up its mind, at least for now, and it's almost 70 today! Supposed to be 60s most of the week, though being Germany, there's the normal rain every other day or so. ;)
Student loans are the only reason I'm actually getting anything back from taxes this year...and that's only because I get to claim the interest on them.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-04T12:00:52-04:00
I don't think I'll owe taxes this year but any refund will go toward my debt.
@Geist: That's how mine is every year. Put the majority of it towards my student loans to pay those down quicker, and keep a little bit in my account just in case I need it.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-04T13:10:33-04:00
@GM: I actually owe back taxes. I got really messed up when I was working for a foreign government because they don't take taxes out. One of the main reasons why I have a part time job now.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-04T16:27:06-04:00
Yeah, I'll be working at least till I'm like 70 to pay off how much I owe. Sounds like fun.
Who loves banks? I do! And not just because when we're taken over by robot overlords, they'll scan all of my online comments to see how I felt in the past about the companies who now own the robots to determine possible threats.
Just 98% for that reason.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-05T08:36:23-04:00

Morning kittens.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-05T08:58:04-04:00
@Geist, I'm still hanging in. Honestly, this year has been total crap, for pretty much everyone I know. Everywhere I turn, something sh*tty is happening to someone. I need to get a co-signer for a line of credit (due to a clerical error by the bank). So Misty need to get some info from our accountant. The accountant still hadn't gotten back to her so last night, I asked Misty to put the heat on her to get that info. She was able to get the paper work to Misty, but also relayed her own tale of woe, Father going into the hospital, not expected to recover, and her house had a water pipe burst, destroying her main floor flooring and flooding her basement (destroying her families beautiful library! Over 100 books lost). A friend of mine that bought a trailer last year, just found out that the previous owner had 3 years in back taxes owed on the lot, and he's on the hook for it, so he's most likely going to lose his trailer in a week an a half unless he can scrape up $2000. Worst part is because of my car situation I can't help him either. I don't know, this year is honestly going down as one of my worst ever. I'm just trying to keep my head up tbh. Whats the rule again? All you need to do is get up one more time than you've been knocked down? I've lost count... ;) (still smiling though)
Mike Kabala 2018-04-05T12:13:15-04:00
Morning kittens
Mike Kabala 2018-04-05T12:17:06-04:00
@BaKhan, my rule of thumb is, "This too shall pass." Curiously, it works both as an an encouragement when things are going poorly and as a warning when things are going well! It allows me to keep my wits about me in all circumstances.
Here's praying that things will get better for you soon.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-05T13:58:43-04:00
You know, sometimes... not often, but occasionally, I'm glad I'm poor.
2 people in my program lost all the money in their checking accounts because of a card skimmer on the nearest ATM, in the train station around the corner. I really hope they get all that figured out and fixed soon, but I bring it up because I haven't even used an ATM in like a month and a half or something now.
Honestly, I feel like a scammer would take pity on me when he saw my account and even throw in a couple bucks to help out. I checked to make sure, and was like "Wow, I have like no money. Glad nothing was stolen!" ;)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-05T14:09:49-04:00
BaKhan, wow, I'm so sorry about all that! At least when things go terribly awry, they always get better a little further on. Just hang in there! I wish I could help you out too, but I guess my comments over the past day or two explain that situation. ;)
You're Canadian, you get the benefit of the british spirit of "If you're going through hell, keep going." mixed with the Americans' unabashed optimism. Not to mention an abundance of good friends to help you through it!
`
And on that note, some very, very ominous clouds just moved into town. Gotta love German weather, it's just like home! The only difference is that when the weather changes in 5 minutes, it just changes to more rain. ;)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-06T08:07:36-04:00
Morning kittens.
@BaKhan: If I had the money to give you, it would be yours. I know how hard it is to deal with life when you are under the burden of debt. Heck, that is why I'm working 7 days a week now. Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to get your car fixed?
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-06T08:50:15-04:00
Morning kittens.
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-06T08:52:23-04:00
@CB, thank you sir. Time tested, and sage advice there. Only too true as well. Definitely something to think about. If find life is like a game of chess. Its easy to see someone else's mistakes when you're not playing, and very hard to see your own when you're in the middle of it. Stepping back and getting perspective (this too shall pass) is the wisest thing to do. Sadly, I'm rarely wise... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-06T08:53:33-04:00
@Zem, thanks man. Money doesn't necessarily equate to problems, but a lack of it, or too much of it certainly do lend to troublesome situations. A wise rapper once said, Mo Money, Mo Problems... ;)
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-06T08:59:40-04:00
@Geist, I really appreciate the thought! It will cost me over $7k to get the work done, plus the cost of the car I've been renting since mine was kept by the shop. So likely in excess of $8k by the time its all done. Really, its not that its that much money, its just that I'm not in a good position to come up with that right now. With Misty missing so much work at the end of last year/beginning of this year I had to cover more expenses than I'm used to on my salary and it wiped out my modest savings, and racked up my credit. Just as I was planning on straightening out that situation, I've now been hit with this extra car expense. I'm hoping that between my taxes, Misty working more hours to try and catch us up, reducing my expenses to bare minimum levels, etc., I can get this turned around by the end of the year. I'm also looking at possibly selling off some of my lesser used music equipment, just to try and expedite this as much as I can.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-06T10:00:50-04:00
Morning kittens. One week closer to Blackest Friday!
Andrej Milovac 2018-04-06T12:09:41-04:00
Wow, just randomly clicked on this project and I see that comments are still running :O
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-06T12:10:22-04:00
@BaKhan: I'm sorry kitten. I had gotten a little money from the severance package but because I'd only worked there for a year and a half, it wasn't much. Half of that was un-taken vacation time so I guess I'm glad I didn't take any time off. If this had happened to you later in the year, I would have enough money to send you at least half since I have a part time job now. Chin up kitten. At least you and Misty have jobs to help get these bills down. Imagine if you had been laid off from work and this happened.
We are all going through something but you have your friends and loved ones to help you get through this. Remember, we are rooting for you.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-06T12:10:58-04:00
Hello Andrej,
That is because some of us never wanted the party to stop.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-06T13:57:30-04:00
Andrej, of course it is! Who would have wanted to stop something so awesome as these comments?
Wow, almost 115,000 comments now!

Morning, all. Nothing like coming to work early to meet with the lab director, only to have him forget that it's the second Monday of the month!
Ah, well, at least I (should) get to go home early today...
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T10:51:13-04:00
Aw god, don't remind me of time passing, LZ. At first it seemed like time was passing super slowly, and yet super fast, studying here, but now it's just disappearing from me all too fast!
I only have until the end of June, but it's already coming to mid-April!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T11:03:31-04:00
@LZ: I take it the person forgot about your meeting?
Lord Zombitten 2018-04-09T11:14:30-04:00
Geist, yes. Yes he did.
In other news, I learned a couple of important things over the weekend: the recoil pad I added to my hunting rifle works amazingly well, and I need to get a good pair of binoculars in order to sight in my scope at 300 yards.
If anyone is on the fence about going to see Ready Player One, I recommend going. Went and saw it yesterday, and it was an awesome movie. Tons of pop-culture references(from old cartoons and ATARI to very recent games/movies, and even references to some music icons). I'm sure I missed some of them, but a lot of it is just one character/vehicle/weapon from various films/games/singers.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T11:34:22-04:00
@GM: I went the first day it was out. I gotta admit: I enjoyed it more than Black Panther. I plan on seeing it again and I rarely see a movie more than once in theaters.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T11:35:02-04:00
And for the record, while I thought the book was better, the movie had a better ending.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-09T12:00:14-04:00
Morning kittens. Just had a tech interview for a job in Chicago. Now I get to wait and see if I'll be given the privilege of uprooting my entire life to move from Charlotte to Chicago
There are not many cities I would be willing to do this for, but I've dreamed of living in Chicago ever since my first visit to Wrigley Field as a little boy.
@Geist: I haven't read the book, but the fact they incorporated a lot of the newer(as in created after the book was published) pop culture icons/things, that was a nice nod to how big some things became. Plus the few references to Firefly were superb in their own right.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T12:17:58-04:00
@CB: Congrats. I don't think I could live in Chicago during their winter months. Like their pizza though.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T12:33:47-04:00
I still have to see A Wrinkle in Time & Infinity Wars. I'm hearing good things about "A Quiet Place" so I'm going to try to check that out next week.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-09T13:11:43-04:00
Thanks @Geist, but it's a bit premature. I haven't actually gotten the go-ahead yet. I'm in that period of nervous anticipation after the interview. I think (hope) that I passed it, but you never know until you know.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-09T13:28:22-04:00
@CB: I believe in you. I'm sure the job is yours.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T14:30:27-04:00
GM, I heard from someone that the first time you see Ready Player One, it's a fun ride, and even though it's entirely different from the book, there's a ton of fun references and stuff along the way.
Then the second time you watch it, you realize just how many references there are, so many that it's not even really fun anymore, and you realize the movie is actually pretty lacking.
`
Funnily enough, that's exactly what I thought of the book itself. It was fun the first time, but not so much the next couple, and now I'm worn out on that story even though I haven't read it in some time, it wasn't actually that great when you go deeper into it. I probably won't even see the movie for awhile now.
Though when I do, it'll have to be in 3D!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T14:37:53-04:00
I realize that may be a bit controversial of a stance, but when you read that book cover to cover a few times in just a few months, you kind of realize there's not really a ton to it, though it's still a lot of fun. Though I expect the movie to have focused even more on the fun side, movies aren't known for adding plot development.
I guess that's what happens when you read more stuff like every major work by Tolkien and every Sherlock Holmes (60 books, all at least twice!), though I'm typically not too picky at all.
`
GM, Firefly? Haha, was anyone a leaf on the wind?
Wow, I feel terrible even making that reference! Such a great series though.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T14:40:25-04:00
CB, what, not Virginia or wherever you were saying before? ;)
Really, though, as much as it'd be to uproot your whole life, if you get to go somewhere you love that much, I hope you get it! Praying for the best for you!
@Zem: There were a ton of references in there that I caught, and I'm sure many more that I didn't(pretty sure one was from the Quake series of games, but can't confirm because that type of weapon mentioned/used is from many other sources - even real life prototyping). I will probably watch it again later on when it's out on Netflix, just to slowly go through and see what all I can for the references. Kind of sad that the only reference to one of my favorite Xbox game series was literally only the gun from it(Gears of War Lancer - and it was a short scene too).
Mike Kabala 2018-04-09T15:05:53-04:00
@Zem, it was Maryland, not Virginia, although Virginia wouldn't have excited me too much. It would be easier to move all of my stuff to a place that's only a day's drive from here though.
I've never been a beach kinda guy though. My worst nightmare is to be stuck on some tropical island beach for the rest of my life. (I know ... call me weird!)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T15:30:06-04:00
GM, wow, only one Gears of War reference? That's actually kind of surprising! Though yeah, I fully expect it'll be a really fun movie, a great one for just a quick mental break for some explosions and pop culture nostalgia.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T15:31:44-04:00
CB, haha, so the opposite of BaKhan? Don't worry, I could understand that. Beaches are nice, but once in awhile. I'm from the midwest, I'm that weird person who needs to be surrounded by a thousand miles of earth in every direction! ;)
Mike Kabala 2018-04-09T15:40:20-04:00
@Zem, LOL. I've been to Nebraska. It looks like your idea of Heaven!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T18:27:20-04:00
CB, haha, I mean, once you've lived in a place for over 20 years, the most formative ones at that, you sort of come to like it!
`
... sort of. I'm glad I've experienced so much varied weather, but if it's not necessary, it'd be nice to avoid those times we've had entire months where it doesn't get below 95 during the height of the day! Or working in fields in that weather!
Yeah, that's right, I'm looking at you, July!
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T18:28:43-04:00
One interesting thing, though, is that I'd love to live in mountains later on. That's about the one thing (outside of oceans) that Nebraska has virtually none of!
(though it's expressly illegal to hunt whales in Nebraska. Gotta be wary of those loophole finders who'll ship whales over 1000 miles inland just to hunt them for sport!)
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-09T18:29:26-04:00
(I just realized that little endpoint seems out of place, but it was in response to the "(outside of oceans)" bit)
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-10T08:42:08-04:00
Morning kittens.
Why are people allowed to get away with sloppy work/non communication but let me step a toe out of line and I am the one that gets in trouble?
Morning kittens. Still waiting for confirmation from Chicago.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-10T09:49:50-04:00
@Geist, what happened now? It seems that you are experiencing more than your fair share of office snafus.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-10T10:38:34-04:00
@GM: My part time job says that I have to go through more security finger printing since I'm stationed at a heath care facility. Plus I have to have my certification switched from one company to them. My question: WHY WASN'T THIS TOLD TO ME 3 WEEKS AGO? They knew I needed to do this but didn't say anything until nearly a month later. Now I'm going to lose some hours trying to get to this place before it closes on Thursday and spend more money to get my SFO license switched. This isn't the first time that there was a failure of communication. On my first day after training, the manager told me to come to work at 11 am but didn't bother to tell the supervisor. No one called me (even though I'd given them my mobile number lots of times) and I was almost written up and fired as a "no show" because of it. When I was found innocent, the manager just wanted to chalk it up as a "misunderstanding".
The temp agency did the same thing to me. Before I started this assignment, they asked if I had any days I planned to be out. I told them about Awesome Con and they said they would let the company know. Of course, when it came time for me to send an email to the supervisor here about it, she blew up at me. The temp agency said they would sort it out and get back to me but they never did.
It pisses me off to see people act this way but I step out of line and I get chastised.
Mike Kabala 2018-04-10T10:55:58-04:00
@Geist, I definitely understand, especially with what I'm going through right now. I interviewed for a position yesterday and I'm just waiting for the phone call telling me that I've got the job, which starts on Monday in Chicago. Meanwhile, I check my company email this morning and see that my "mapping" for that job has been withdrawn because I never "interviewed" for it. (What was yesterday all about then?) This has forced me to send a message to the manager asking for clarification, which makes me look desparate for the position.
Along with the aforementioned email, I also received two emails mapping me to other positions in other cities, one of which is actually closer than Chicago, which would make relocation easier. There was also an email directing me to take some training, but no instructions regarding HOW to SIGN UP for it!
This could All be resolved with a single phone call to tell me that I got the position in Chicago and giving me an address, time, and contact information to report to work on Monday so that I can actuallyt start the monumental task of relocation that I had hoped to avoid a month ago when my supervisor told me that a position in Charlotte would be opening within a week's time.

@CB: doesn't it just burn your britches when people act this way and get away with it? When I signed on to my pt gig, I was so happy to have landed the job that I told them I would work holidays if they needed. I rescinded that offer. I will simply tell them I'm busy if they ask me to work extra. I know that if I explained why they won't get it so for now, I'm just going to work my allotted hours and leave it at that. They can kiss my brown hiney.

I hate it when that kind of crap happens, as well.
Lord Zombitten 2018-04-10T14:35:26-04:00
Also, remember when I said that I'd get to go home early as a result of going in way early yesterday? Yeah, I did get to go home early....
...15 minutes early! I just love going in 90 minutes early to get off 15 minutes early. That's when being salaried is the best!
@LZ: That's the way it normally happens. I get it by 7am daily, and supposed to go home by 3:30pm. I usually leave between 4 and 5 most days that aren't Friday. Friday I get to go home at 3. That, and I get to take care of the Canadian payroll, US payroll, testing the files, running reports, doing all the filing(has lapsed for the past 3-10months...), process final pays/calculate said pays, fill out any verifications of employment, AND handle all phone calls for the payroll department. Processing the payroll itself eats up almost 4 days(after payroll reports that can only be done once everything is 100% done being the 4th day), and then I need to deal with everything for the following weeks payroll...with absolutely zero help from the manager(who is on amazon/Facebook all day long, and can't remember things that I sent to her 10min prior).
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-10T16:02:59-04:00
the manager(who is on amazon/Facebook all day long
@GM: At my last full benefit position, there was a receptionist who makes $75,000 and does the exact same thing. They won't fire her because she had been in at that job for 20 years and they fear that she will sue them for age discrimination if they got rid of her. Plus she has a nasty attitude to boot. How the heck can I get a cushy job like this? I've searched all my life.
@Geist: We're currently in the process of closing down one of our facilities(losing the company $100k a month), and they REFUSE to give the one guy who has been with the company for 40 years(!!) a severance package, and instead are basically making him a "shop bitch" to sit around there and keep an eye on things...just give the guy the package, and let him find a new job if he wants, or retire(he's almost 60, so it wouldn't be that far off for retirement for him).
Lord Zombitten 2018-04-10T16:58:37-04:00
$75k as a receptionist!? Dang! I don't even make that much as a lab manager!
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2018-04-10T17:39:57-04:00
@LZ: she got that salary because every time the company changed hands, the new company would ask her what her duties were and her last pay rate and she was able to make up whatever she wanted. No one bothered to look up what the typical receptionist does so she was able to write her own ticket.
Micah "Zem the Mattress" Philson 2018-04-10T18:49:48-04:00
Geist, damn, sounds like your dream job!
Actually, that sounds like my dream job! $75,000/year just to sit around on facebook most of the day?!
If you could make your own hours, there was no dress code, drinking was allowed, and you could work from home, that'd be... pretty much what I do now, actually. My dream job!
What I'm saying is I want to earn that much money doing absolutely nothing, if it wasn't clear. ;)

Morning kittens!
Rod "BaKhan" Mitchell 2018-04-11T09:10:13-04:00
So my bank finally came through for me yesterday! Now I can finally afford to get started fixing my car! It feels like this has been going on forever! Well, certainly way more than long enough anyways. I can't wait to get back into my own vehicle again, and put all this behind me finally.
In other good news, Misty had a meeting with her surgeon yesterday, and they are going to be doing the corrective surgery for her left ear, so that she will be able to use a hearing aid! I'm trying not to build up too much hope, but dang it, she deserves this! The surgery isn't until September, so it will be a bit of a wait, but if it works, then thats fine. I will however have to learn how to mumble under my breath more quietly though... ;)
@BaKhan: Well, that's at least some good news. Hopefully you get your vehicle back soon(did they give you a timeframe at least?). And that is definitely good news for Misty. Just remember, it's usually easier to mutter in your mind than to ask forgiveness later. ;)
It's like what I learned in journalism school about TV news reporting: Tell them what yo9u're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them. LOL
@CB: Everything you said was completely right. Why I thought the temp rep would do his job is beyond me. I will do this going forward but this puts a damper on my Con time now.
Happy Easter, everyone!
APRIL FOOLS! Easter's been canceled this year. They gave it up for lent.
@Zem, LOL. Wish I'd seen your post before "wasting time" going to church today. Happily, one thing that will never be cancelled is the free gift from God that we all celebrate on Easter. (Rom 5:18)
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens
Huh, I was ready to apologize for missing everything today due to being sick, super busy, and distracted by Reddit finally putting up their april fools thing, the Circle of Trust, but I guess I didn't miss much.
`
So, to catch up:
Morning, kittens.

Morning kittens.
Hey BaKhan. Did the insurance company see sense yet?
@BaKhan: I know how you feel. Problems tend to come in groups and can seem overwhelming. But you and I are fighters. And you WILL get through this. Sending good vibes your way that you'll get this resolved soon.
Good morning kittens. Good news! If I retire today, I can be poor the rest of my life.
Morning kittens. I'm still sleepy. Slept past the stop I need to get off from work and ended up at the end of the line. Good thing I don't work too far from it.
@CB: I can never retire.
CB, I was going to laugh, but then I realized how relatable that is. If I retired today, I could be homeless starting as soon as I like, and my bank would probably put a bounty on my head for student loans!
Mother Nature needs to stop dicking around and just give us spring time temps. I'm stick of wearing my winter coat.
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens.
@Zem, thanks for helping me keep things in perspective. I remember how much fun it was when I still had student loans.
I don't think I'll owe taxes this year but any refund will go toward my debt.
@Geist: That's how mine is every year. Put the majority of it towards my student loans to pay those down quicker, and keep a little bit in my account just in case I need it.
@GM: I actually owe back taxes. I got really messed up when I was working for a foreign government because they don't take taxes out. One of the main reasons why I have a part time job now.
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens.
Hey BaKhan. How you holding up?
Morning kittens
Morning kittens
@BaKhan, my rule of thumb is, "This too shall pass." Curiously, it works both as an an encouragement when things are going poorly and as a warning when things are going well! It allows me to keep my wits about me in all circumstances.
Here's praying that things will get better for you soon.
The only difference is that when the weather changes in 5 minutes, it just changes to more rain. ;)
Morning kittens.
@BaKhan: If I had the money to give you, it would be yours. I know how hard it is to deal with life when you are under the burden of debt. Heck, that is why I'm working 7 days a week now. Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to get your car fixed?
Morning kittens.
Sadly, I'm rarely wise... ;)
@Zem, thanks man. Money doesn't necessarily equate to problems, but a lack of it, or too much of it certainly do lend to troublesome situations. A wise rapper once said, Mo Money, Mo Problems... ;)
Morning kittens. One week closer to Blackest Friday!
Wow, just randomly clicked on this project and I see that comments are still running :O
Hello Andrej,
That is because some of us never wanted the party to stop.
Andrej, of course it is! Who would have wanted to stop something so awesome as these comments?
Wow, almost 115,000 comments now!
Wow, haha, and as if to answer, the Weekend decided to let its feelings be known!
Morning kittens. I figured out something: now that I have a weekend job, my social life is pretty much over unless I can have my hours changed.
Morning kittens.
Morning, all. Nothing like coming to work early to meet with the lab director, only to have him forget that it's the second Monday of the month!
Ah, well, at least I (should) get to go home early today...
Aw god, don't remind me of time passing, LZ. At first it seemed like time was passing super slowly, and yet super fast, studying here, but now it's just disappearing from me all too fast!
I only have until the end of June, but it's already coming to mid-April!
@LZ: I take it the person forgot about your meeting?
Geist, yes. Yes he did.
In other news, I learned a couple of important things over the weekend: the recoil pad I added to my hunting rifle works amazingly well, and I need to get a good pair of binoculars in order to sight in my scope at 300 yards.
Morning kittens.
@GM: I went the first day it was out. I gotta admit: I enjoyed it more than Black Panther. I plan on seeing it again and I rarely see a movie more than once in theaters.
And for the record, while I thought the book was better, the movie had a better ending.
@CB: Congrats. I don't think I could live in Chicago during their winter months. Like their pizza though.
I still have to see A Wrinkle in Time & Infinity Wars. I'm hearing good things about "A Quiet Place" so I'm going to try to check that out next week.
Thanks @Geist, but it's a bit premature. I haven't actually gotten the go-ahead yet. I'm in that period of nervous anticipation after the interview. I think (hope) that I passed it, but you never know until you know.
@CB: I believe in you. I'm sure the job is yours.
GM, wow, only one Gears of War reference? That's actually kind of surprising! Though yeah, I fully expect it'll be a really fun movie, a great one for just a quick mental break for some explosions and pop culture nostalgia.
CB, haha, so the opposite of BaKhan? Don't worry, I could understand that. Beaches are nice, but once in awhile. I'm from the midwest, I'm that weird person who needs to be surrounded by a thousand miles of earth in every direction! ;)
@Zem, LOL. I've been to Nebraska. It looks like your idea of Heaven!
(I just realized that little endpoint seems out of place, but it was in response to the "(outside of oceans)" bit)
Morning kittens.
Why are people allowed to get away with sloppy work/non communication but let me step a toe out of line and I am the one that gets in trouble?
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens.
Morning kittens. Still waiting for confirmation from Chicago.
@Geist, what happened now? It seems that you are experiencing more than your fair share of office snafus.
(What was yesterday all about then?) That, and I get to take care of the Canadian payroll, US payroll, testing the files, running reports, doing all the filing(has lapsed for the past 3-10months...), process final pays/calculate said pays, fill out any verifications of employment, AND handle all phone calls for the payroll department.
That should be "in by 7am", not "it by 7am".

$75k as a receptionist!? Dang! I don't even make that much as a lab manager!
@LZ: she got that salary because every time the company changed hands, the new company would ask her what her duties were and her last pay rate and she was able to make up whatever she wanted. No one bothered to look up what the typical receptionist does so she was able to write her own ticket.
What I'm saying is I want to earn that much money doing absolutely nothing, if it wasn't clear. ;)
Morning kittens. I can't wait for the spring weather to kick in. The weather man says it should start on Friday
Morning kittens!
I will however have to learn how to mumble under my breath more quietly though... ;)
*right ear...
Morning kittens.
@BaKhan: Well, that's at least some good news. Hopefully you get your vehicle back soon(did they give you a timeframe at least?). And that is definitely good news for Misty. Just remember, it's usually easier to mutter in your mind than to ask forgiveness later. ;)
