I just hope backers temper their expectations. The guys only wanted to print 10,000 decks. They are on the hook for what is trending towards over 300,000 decks. The logistical nightmare will be upon them shortly.
Brett 2015-02-13T11:57:15-05:00
So just a random thought. I don't think we'll hit all achievements, mostly because 100,000% backed would be $4m more that I don't see coming in. But let's say hypothetically we found a way and hit all of our achievements. Y'all think EK would do something even bigger?

@Jeff I dont get anyone's emails from ThunderClap unless I pay I think it was $100 for their premier plan, and I have no intention of doing that nor am I going to pay $40 for the basic plan that would guarantee that this happens even if we don't meet the goal.

I don't think it's viable alternative for this application yet Historian. Dow has a solar shingle for sale now. But it costs exactly twice as much as solar panels, it isn't cost effective. The panels and the shingles have an expected life of 20 years, the panels will pay for themselves in 9, the shingles won't pay for themselves until they've been up 18 years. It's a no brainer at this point.
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2015-02-13T12:12:55-05:00

I agree, they should have warned you. If at least to give you time to research the menu.
Chris "The Historian" Loth 2015-02-13T12:14:40-05:00

Catz, it's survivable for sure. It's not the most traumatizing thing that's ever happened, but I did get to the restaurant, scour the menu and then roll my eyes.
Its most likely because he has been identified in one of the pictures on his sons twitter account that and they do have the same last name and live in the same area which twitter knows via IP address

The important thing about the "Rule" regarding the panels for me is this. IF it ain't wrote down, it ain't a "Rule". This is/was nowhere in the local building codes or covenants, so it's just one womans opinion. And I'll go to court on that all day long.

Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2015-02-13T12:17:04-05:00
That is weird GCoD. It's spooky how fast these sites can link you to someone else. Want to know something spooky? I was chatting with a Brit though Yahoo email. When I signed up for LinkedIn, the LinkedIn site was able to figure out that I knew this person. I don't see how unless Yahoo email is monitored.
Then it must be based on the IP address and last name.

@PoT, point well taken, if it's one persons opinion and not listed in the bylaws, take her down a peg (or four).
@Catz - for all we know it could be cards made up of the various achievements we hit - that could be the "surprise item" - easiest to do & least to add a delay LOL
Or it could be a coupon for future product - again made on a card.
We just don't know. They may have had a different thing in mind when it was for 500-1000 decks/backer and it's something totally different now with over 152k in backers.
A number of projects I've backed have shared the process including packaging and shipping, going with a fullfilment firm and the packaging and shipping discussions with those firms. It's not just "drop a trinket". It's make a trinket, get trinket to fullfilment location, have correct packaging to make sure nothing is damaged during shipping, pack cards/box/trinket/extra packing material to keep stuff from sliding (wow your cost for fullfilment just went up), ship, deal with all angry backers whose trinket was damaged because someone didn't pack it right (opps did I leave out order 10% extra of trinkets), reship trinkets in special "just trinket packaging".
Geist, I think there is an option in Linked In for it to scan your contact list for matches so that may be what happend
Geist de la Muerte Gatito 2015-02-13T12:19:10-05:00

The only thing is that we might be too geographically distributed.
How much do they know about us? I signed up for Twitter just to back this project. The very first person they suggested I should follow? My own son. They knew exactly who I was.
@Jeff I dont get anyone's emails from ThunderClap unless I pay I think it was $100 for their premier plan, and I have no intention of doing that nor am I going to pay $40 for the basic plan that would guarantee that this happens even if we don't meet the goal.
If we meet it then great if we dont well then we only have ourselves to blame for it.
I say we have small gatherings afterwards. I can travel up and down the east coast pretty cheaply.
its exactly what i expected. yesterday I came on to find a conversation about panties, seems like a logical segue
GCoD, did you use a different browser?
We live 30 miles apart!
Damn GCoD: That is kinda freaky scary. Unless they figured it out because you both have the same last name and mentioned you live in the same state.
@ Cat
It sounds survivable. They can do crazy stuff with chickpeas and what not. They can be pretty close to tricking you into thinking some dishes contain meat.
I agree, they should have warned you. If at least to give you time to research the menu.
@Catness, we could always start with regional get togethers and expand from there if it's viable/there is interest.
GCoD and Geist, it's likely due to cookies. #OmNomNom
He doesn't use his name in the screen name, he uses a variation of his favorite band's name ... or something like that.
It can't be cookies, I have a desktop in one municipality, he has a laptop 30 miles away. Yikes.
@Pot, I wasn't thinking of the Dow shingles, I was thinking specifically the paint you can lay down that is supposed to be much more cost effective: http://news.discovery.com/tech/alternative-power-sources/paint-your-house-get-solar-power-111223.htm
The important thing about the "Rule" regarding the panels for me is this. IF it ain't wrote down, it ain't a "Rule". This is/was nowhere in the local building codes or covenants, so it's just one womans opinion. And I'll go to court on that all day long.
At the point I joined Twitter, I had made zero Tweets, and he had only made six -- about his band or school.
PoT, that's legit.
Historian/Catness- there might be a bigger draw if there was one big one- championship style... I know we talked about Vegas in the past. I'd actually be pretty interested in flying out there for that. The more regional ones, Im not sure how many would show.
@PoT, never mind, I didn't look at the amp rating of the pain they describe in that article, they've got a ways to go it would seem.
I'm aware of it Historian. I've been doing my homework for 8 months. : )
It can't be IP address, we aren't located anywhere close ...
I'm on ATT, he's on Charter Digital ..etc.
Not easy at all.
Geist, I think there is an option in Linked In for it to scan your contact list for matches so that may be what happend
Then that bothers me Josh because I would never choose such an option.
And this person was not in my contact list in the first place. In fact, the only internet connection between us is that we belong to the same group on Meetup.
@Creeper, fair point. Just trying to think of ways to include people who are unable to travel distances for a bigger one. I'm not saying a large one wouldn't be a cool to do. :)
Creeper and Historian, you can't tell from my activity here, but I have a busy personal life, so I don't think I would be able to travel for this purpose.
the other possibility is if you and know anyone else that you are also friends with, because it may have recommended him based on mutual friends.
Though, if it were in Las Vegas, it would be easier to convince my husband that we need to take a trip there.
bingo are any of your meetup friends also on linkdin with you ?
