I think people are undervaluing the creative aspect of this game.
Granted I've played something similar where there is a kill card and skips and etc, but overall the rules are still original. The larger aspect being overlooked is that a whole second deck is in the process of being illustrated and created.
You're actually buying their work, not the deck of cards.

Firstly, as a part time entertainer (magic, fire, balloons, side show), I think entertainment gives more back to society than you give yourself credit for.
Secondly, makeplaycards is prolly cheap quality cards, and the team is using the same people as cards against humanity, which are pretty good quality.
customized anything is going to be more expensive.
And I love the way they did the achievements.

Another NO! to plastic cards. Plastic is inherently unstable unless UV protected, and gets brittle with age. Cards made from it will not be around in 20 years, whereas paper based cards will be around a hundred years from now.

I backed the AKO dice because of the coolness factor. Most of the KS projects I back are games. I'm going to choose the Stainless Steel dice though because the aluminum ones look kind of cheap to me. I can't believe he's offering both types for the same price. Sweet!

The problem with my plan is that Steve Jackson Games did a free downloadable app that does all that for you ... plus lets you eliminate the paper record keeping for your Ogre ... much more simple, but sadly diceless.

I have a project started to make custom CRT dice for Ogre/GEV -- five unique dice that reflect the five columns of the CRT.
I've been toying with the idea of making a cube shaped puzzle box decorated to look like a D6. Not sure if there's much of a market for it though.
