@GM, after he passed, the vet tapped on his chest but there didn't appear to be fluid in his lungs. We think that he had congestive heart failure and thathis enlarged periacardium left him no room to breathe. The vet said he would look at his heart and let us know. I know OUR hearts are broken. There will never be another Scoobee Dew.

@Zem. My dog has already lived three years longer than is expected for the breed. He's a tough old SOB. I don't know how much longer he has, he's losing the strength to stand and has started losing control of his bodily functions, but every now and then he still wants to bounce and play. As long as he's comfortable we'll do what we can to support him. But I doubt he'll se the new house. Sigh.
Mike Kabala 2015-03-23T12:17:31-04:00
Thanks @Creeper. THey'll have one more butt to sniff.

PoT, My cat doesn't have any problems like that, but she is old and starting to meow kinda weakly and has trouble with hard food and temperatures anymore. It's just amazing she lived this long with a life as rough as hers.
CB- did you post a picture of him on the forum? I know you shared one on here before. Maybe we could create a new page for Fur baby memorial. LZ's pic of GIR is so precious.
It will be tough, I'm sure. You'll probably still wake up at 3 am from time to time.

@Creeper, I can do that. I'll just use his Facebook photo.

@LZ, My wooden dice are looking good so far. It's taking a while for the first coat of finish to dry, though. I must have laid it on a little thick. I haven't added the pips yet. I'm going to go shopping for a hemispherical burr on Thursday to make them come out the way I want. I'm planning on using a pin vise to hold it and spin it by hand. If I tried to use a Dremel, it would probably dance all over the face, ruining it. I'll post a photo in the next few days.

I hope this was the last iteration I had to do on updating the spreadsheet.
Mike Kabala 2015-03-23T13:53:05-04:00
@LZ, yeah. I used my hobby saw with the micrometer adjustment and got seven dice out of the same piece. I would have gotten an eighth piece, but there would've been no way to hold onto the wood as it went past the saw blade. I'd really recommend getting a hobby table saw for this king of work. The blades on those are only 4-5 inches in diameter and cut a really fine kerf. If you try with a regular 10 inch table saw, you'll want to use a zero clearance insert. I got my table saw from Byrnes Model Machines (the same place that has the thickness planer) but it cost me over $450, so way over budget unless you use it in a KickStarter to pay for it.
Kevin "Lord Zombitten" Buckner 2015-03-23T13:55:56-04:00

Thank you Dr. P... this EDT/EST thing was so awkward that I even messed up my "explaining" email several times... well I should not write emails when sleep deprived, but it seemed to be important to me.
Anymore ideas for a song for EK? I plan on starting it sweet and fluffy like, then drop into heavy metal. This is more of a side project than anything.
BruceP - Chameleon Prime 2015-03-23T14:04:32-04:00
I tried to help, but I think I confused the issue. It is important, at the same time it's semantics. EST is more world-centric though, since not all of the world practices DLS. Therefore it should remain [EST] for #kittenConsul purposes as it were.
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-23T14:07:20-04:00
Very nice doggie, Chameleon, he looks somewhat cuddly. And a nice hat!
GC and Creeper do so much I can hardly keep up to any actual work on the list myself....
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-23T14:09:29-04:00
We agreed now on using EST, Dr. P which is fine by me... I just needed to know.
Peter 'General Calculus' W. 2015-03-23T14:12:03-04:00
So what did we learn out of this thing? When adressing a world wide audiance use non DST-timezones and even better, use universal timezones like GMT or UTC...
I also only caught it because programming timezone aware apllications is such a pain in the a**, as I've found out a few years ago.
I know GC! That was just my brief and unnecessary explanation for the comment section.
BruceP - Chameleon Prime 2015-03-23T14:14:17-04:00
@General C,
Thanks. :) He's not as snuggly as I'd like, but he's a sweetie.

Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-23T14:17:55-04:00
@LZ, for affordable hobby tools, look at Micro-Mark online. They have some nice-ish saws and such.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-23T14:18:24-04:00
I have their milling machine and lathe ... good benchtop units as long as you don't need a large tool set-up.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-23T14:18:53-04:00
@CB -- have you looked into making a saw glide table for your table saw?
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-23T14:20:19-04:00
@GCoD, I'm not sure what you mean by a "saw glide table." If you mean a sled that rides ih both mitre gauge grooves, it would probably be overkill for a hobby saw. I went top-of-the-line so I wouldn't have to make too many special fixtures to get the precison I need.
Mike Kabala 2015-03-23T14:29:35-04:00
Just looked at your picture. Yeah, those are more or less designed to be used on full-size table saws. The Micro-Mark tools you mentioned do have a good reputation and cost roughly half what I paid for my saw though.
@Potatten: I can eat at my desk...just I need to go buy lunch today....and can't go get it until these timecard files are uploaded.
Juha-Pekka Ahonen 2015-03-23T14:36:28-04:00
Can you guys post top20 again for me?
Mike Kabala 2015-03-23T14:38:14-04:00
I discovered a cool trick for setting the saw up for crosscut after I finished ripping the square blanks. Since it was already set for 16.5mm (I added 0.5mm to leave room for sanding.) I used my vernier calipers to precisely measure a piece of 1/2 inch stock that I wanted to use as a stop block. Then I zeroed out my micrometer, clamped it in position, and dialed out the precise thickness of the wood I was using for the stop block. Then it was a simple matter of moving the fence to touch the micrometer stop, clamping it down, clamping the stop block to the fence, and use it to crosscut seven exact cubes. I backed the stock with some scrap stock to minimize chip-out and fed the wood at a nice easy pace to get a good clean cut on the end grain. It came out to 16.5mm and matched the other sides. After that, it was a matter of keeping the wood absolutely flat against the sanding block and counting out strokes. I set the calipers to get the same size in all three directions and everything came out square and even.
Jeff "Great Cane of Doom"™ Saxton 2015-03-23T14:38:50-04:00
I've used saw sleds on my hobby saws for ages -- you had said you couldn't get the last dice chunk because it would fall into he saw table slot -- with the sled you cut cross-wise to the blade for cutting off actions ... and properly made, there is no hole to fall into.

Well, it turns my fuzzy will be 80 years old in June. Hope she lives until then :(

I will definitely be adding a picture or two to that memorial page when it is up...and I'm at home. Can't really do so from here at work.
Well, time to eat, so be back in like an hour or so.
I could post food images...
But that would defeat the purpose of the cooking thread :)
@Micah and Creeper,

Yep, Micah's up there now. :)

I also only caught it because programming timezone aware apllications is such a pain in the a**, as I've found out a few years ago.
I know GC! That was just my brief and unnecessary explanation for the comment section.
@General C,
Thanks. :) He's not as snuggly as I'd like, but he's a sweetie.
And thanks. I have a few different hats I rotate between for the videos. :)
@LZ, for affordable hobby tools, look at Micro-Mark online. They have some nice-ish saws and such.
I have their milling machine and lathe ... good benchtop units as long as you don't need a large tool set-up.
@CB -- have you looked into making a saw glide table for your table saw?
This is a fancy one, but you can make them simpler too. http://lumberjocks.com/assets/pictures/projects/402371.jpg

@GCoD, I'm not sure what you mean by a "saw glide table." If you mean a sled that rides ih both mitre gauge grooves, it would probably be overkill for a hobby saw. I went top-of-the-line so I wouldn't have to make too many special fixtures to get the precison I need.
Can you guys post top20 again for me?
I've used saw sleds on my hobby saws for ages -- you had said you couldn't get the last dice chunk because it would fall into he saw table slot -- with the sled you cut cross-wise to the blade for cutting off actions ... and properly made, there is no hole to fall into.
Here you go Juha.
